Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Is this bag rated for -30 degrees?

Its rated for that but i would say not good for that without a full outfit of highend artic clothing and something to get you off the ground like a cot, i got this bag for Christmas when i was 17 andhave had this bag for about 7 years now (wow time flies) i have used it upwards of 400 times in mild to extreme winter temps.for about a year while i lived alone i used it indoorsand left my heat off at night to save money, average night in the winter the temp in the house would stay between 25-45 degrees. this is also my primary bag for winter camping, the coldest i ever used it in was last year during a trip with a few friends, 0 degree night with a wind chill of -8 and six inches of snow on the ground. i would not repeat this without a cot, i used a roll up mat on that trip and slept about 4 feet from the fire on the ground, i survived without frost bite but was cold as heck, i got up in the middle of the night and doubled up my socks and put a hoodie on under my coat.for most of my other average camping trips the temps ranged from 13-40 degrees and the bag has done great.

2. Would you choose 0 vs -30 for 3 season camping in Colorado mountians? Worried -30 might be too hot during summer months, I could always add a blanket

I think the -30 would still be my choice we have 90F days and 30F nights during archery season in Oregon.
Is the sleeping bag sometimes warm when going to bed yes but iI do not like additional blankets. Hope this helped.

3. I’m 6 foot 2 about 200 pounds and planning to go to Alaska. Would I fit in the sleeping bag?

Yes for sure. this sleeping bag is like 7’6 inches long. I am about 6’2 and 220 myself. It’s huge. A much larger man than me could fit in this bag. Its amazingly warm and comfortable. The only downside is its a real monster to lug around. Its definitely for car campers, not hikers!

4. can you zip two together?

Gaylen, you might be able to zip them together but one would be upside down. The zipper ends about 8 inches from the bottom so it would loop.I measured the box in which it arrived today and it measures 18X18X22.I think it would take considerable effort to get in back into the original box.It took several minutes just to get it rezipped after I checked to see if 2 zipped together. It is very big and heavy. The material does not compress well.Save your money and buy bags designed to fit together.

0 degree Fahrenheit

A very soft rain coat like material. My son and I used it for the first time a few weeks ago when the night time temps fell to 35 degrees. It kept us completely warm. I highly recommend.

3. Can you wash it in a washer?

Assuming you have a large enough washer, yes. Separate the two sides and wash them separately. I hang mine to dry in the garage.

4. Is the interior made of cloth or more like silk?

The inside of the sleeping bag is a brushed polyester which is more similar to a microfiber smooth feel rather than a silky texture.

7. Coleman 0°F Mummy Sleeping Bag for Big and Tall Adults |

Coleman 0°F Mummy Sleeping Bag for Big and Tall Adults | North Rim Cold-Weather Sleeping Bag

  • Mummy-style adult sleeping bag for camping in temperatures as low as 0 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Can accommodate most people up to 6 feet 2 inches in height
  • Semi-sculpted hood tightens with a drawstring to seal in heat; Unzip the bottom for extra ventilation on warmer nights
  • Quilting construction, insulated footbox, and thermolock draft tube for warmth and heat retention
  • ZipPlow system plows away fabric to prevent snagging during zipping
Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. How do you get the sleeping bag back into the stuff sack? I bought is and we can’t get it back in.

Most if not all better quality sleeping bags I’ve bought came with a stuff sack and a storage bag. The storage bag is much bigger and breathes to help preserve loft. (An oversized cotton pillow case would work)
As others have said, a stuff sack is for stuffing. Stick the foot in and start stuffing. Sometimes it’s a bit of a challenge. I think manufactures tend to provide undersized bags so they can claim they pack down smaller.

BTW, this would not make a good backpacking bag. It’s heavy and bulky. It would be fine for car camping though. Or for short winter backpack trips if you’re on a really tight budget.

2. Can you wash it on washing machine?

Technically yes. A standard wash may cause the internal insulating fill material to clump together during the spin cycle. This will cause the bag to be uncomfortable and loss it’s ability to properly keep you warm. I’ve ruined sleeping bags this way years ago as a kid.

My front loading washer machine was a “hand washing” setting selection with the option to turn the spin cycle off. I wash the bag twice (once with the soap reservoir about one-third full of HE Laundry Soap and a second hand wash cycle with just water to ensure the sleeping bag is properly rinsed. Use cold water on both washing cycles.

Finally, let the bag drip dry on a drying line outdoors or indoors in your laundry room or garage. Make sure to turn the bag inside out after 8 to 12 hours of drying so it can finish drying properly. This washing/drying method keeps my sleeping bags from being ruined. Use a quad size washing machine at your local laundry mat to wash your sleeping bag(s) if your current washing machine is too small to handle this sleeping bag. Air dry on line at home. A tower fan pointed at the sleeping bag while it’s on the drying line will help the bag dry much faster.

Sleeping bag liners are a great way to help it stay clean. They are sold in cotton, satin, silk and various other materials. I find the silk bags are extremely comfortable. The sporting goods section at your local Walmart should sell cotton sleeping bag liners next to the sleeping bag section.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Jacob

3. I need to know the weight of the sleeping bag please

It’s brutally heavy. If you’re asking about weight, this is NOT the bag you want.

4. how small does it compress down to?

When you get it new it is about 20×12 but I put it in a compression bag and got it down to around 12×12 . I t wasn’t easy getting it that small I had to put my knee on it to smash it and really pull on the straps. It is a little heavy for hiking but it has kept me very warm into the mid teens in a two person hiking tent with a klymit insulated static v sleeping pad under me. I f you can carry the extra weight it is a decent alternative to a more expensive down bag.

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Henry W Dwyer says: “Purchased this for elk hunting in the winter. Lowest the temps have gotten is in the 20’s and one night it was snowing, but I stayed perfectly warm in a tent with this sleeping bag. I’m 5’9, 200, and there is plenty of room inside it for me. I don’t feel cramped and my feet do not touch the end. The bag fits snug around my shoulders (but not uncomfortable tight) which helps keep in warm air throughout the night. On a few occasions, I’ve had to unzip the bag during the night to let cool air in. My only complaint,
and it’s not enough to drop a star, but the carrying bag this comes in is very small. It sometimes takes 2 people to put this sleeping bag back into the carrying case.

*** Update ***

After using this bag a few more times for camping, I’ve figured out how to properly roll it up so it goes into the carrying bag more easily. Start at the top of the bag and fold it in half length ways. 3/4 down the bag where it tapers to a smaller size, leave that part unfolded. As you roll the bag up, the small end should be the same width as the top half when its folded. This will reduce the thickness of the bag when rolled up, and it will go into the carrying bag much easier.

At first, I would fold the bag in half lengthways, all the way down, then roll it up. This was making it too bulky to fit properly in the bag and would take 2 people to put it in. Now, I can roll it up and have it back in the bag in about a minute.

I’ve attached some pictures that show the dimensions of the sleeping bag rolled up in the carrying bag. This may be helpful for anyone that is planning on using this bag for backpacking, but not sure if it will be too bulky. Also, so you can see how the size of this bag compares to a larger sleeping bag, I took a picture of it laying on top of a Teton XXL sleeping bag.

Dimensions:
– Length from end to face opening: 73″
– Width at the shoulders: 30″.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. What’s the difference between the Leef 0 degree bag and the Tracker +5 degree bag? Is it really just a 5 degree temperature rating?

The biggest difference between the Tracker and the LEEF 0 – The temperature for one, the fill is also different. In the LEEF bag we use a micro fiber insulation that has more loft and more compression than the Tracker. The shell and construction are also different. The LEEF 0F is a more technical higher-end sleeping bag in the fit and construction than the Tracker +5.

2. Is this bag good for backpacking? As in will it fit in a large pack?

This sleeping bag will fold up into 8″ diameter by 10″ long. Once packed up, it fit nicely under my back pack. Caution, it takes a lot of afford to get the sleeping bag into its bag. You need to practice at home several times before using it at camping. I like this sleeping bag. It has pocket for my phone and keys. I would recommend this one for back packing like our Boy Scout troops camping. Temp above 20F rating which is perfect for Texas weather. Good luck, Bigbend

3. Would the Leef 0 bag keep me warm in 30F below conditions?

Hi Luke,Thanks for reaching out and great question. Sleeping bag temperature ratings can be misleading. When manufacturers tell you a bag is rated for -10°, we mean that it will keep you alive at a temperature down to -10°. We don’t mean you’ll be comfortable. You won’t. You will be cold. But you’ll be alive. Temperature ratings are really survival ratings. For comfort, most people need a sleeping bag rated about 20° to 25° colder than the expected nighttime temperature on their camping trip. If you are expecting zero degree nights, then buy a -20° to -25° sleeping bag.So to answer your question, no a 0 degree bag will not keep you warm at all. If you are planning on camping in negative 30 degree weather you will need at minimum a -35 degree bag. Feel free to reach out with any additional questions or concerns.

4. Would someone 6’4″ fit comfortably in this bag?

I bought it for my son, he is 5’10”, 155 lb, he says it is enough room for someone 6’4″.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

NickTop Contributor: Camping says: “So my last budget sleeping bag purchase didn’t perform to standards at all, so despite researching many bags before settling on this one, I was nervous. I bought the 0f bag figuring it can cover what my old bag wouldn’t. My old bag was a 20f, but it was incapable of keeping me warm at 40f, I had to use a fleece liner and down blanket to keep warm. So first of all, incase you are unfamiliar, sleeping bags in this price range are not rated for comfort temperature, they are rated for survival temperature. You should expect to be comfortable
So my last budget sleeping bag purchase didn’t perform to standards at all, so despite researching many bags before settling on this one, I was nervous.

You should expect to be comfortable at about 20f above the rating if you dress in cold weather sleeping attire and insulate yourself from the ground.

So for reference, I am 6’2″ 220lb and wear large shirts and pants, size 13 feet. I found the dimensions of the bag to be perfect for me. It is 2″ larger in every dimension from my old bag, and the footbox is adequate.

For my test, I slept out in a lean-to tarp shelter with an overnight low of 22f. I laid out a space blanket and a 4.4R inflatable pad for ground insulation. I’m not really a back sleeper, so I had some concerns about the “body mapping” insulation not being there on the bottom. My concerns were alleviated, I turned half the night like a convenience store hotdog like I usually do, and found no cold spots. Getting back in after a late night pee is always chilly, but lift the insulation and blow down to your feet a few times, your hot breath warms the bag back up in seconds.

The zipper is about on par with everything else I have. It’s strong and not prone to getting off track, but has a tendency to snag when zipping up from the inside. I have yet to see a bag that doesn’t… The Velcro flap at the top stops it from coming open under tension, but I found I liked having the top few inches of zipper undone so I could move my arms.

Lastly, the materials. The outer shell does a good job of blocking wind and moisture, and seems pretty durable compared to other bags I’ve had. The inner fabric is soft, but doesn’t snag like flannel. It feels like microfiber bedsheets, which I use at home. And the insulation, the loft is impressive. For the first time, I was actually amazed I got a bag back into it’s stuff sack. I put the footbox in the sack, and it’s full… Yet, you can actually keep stuffing and get the whole thing in there.

Now a note on the sack, I’d give it 3 stars if I could rate it separately. It does it’s job fine so far, but for some reason they felt compelled to sew a band around the lower part of the sack about 3″ above the bottom seam. This is the point the compression straps are sewn to, rather than looping under the bottom. This concerns me that it may burst that seam over time. It doesn’t even look like they saved any material in the process, it’s just plain stupid.

Overall, extremely pleased with my purchase..

1. What compression sack can be used with this bag?

We recommend our XL compression stuff sack for the Blaze -20. https://www.amazon.com/ALPS-Mountaineering-Compression-Stuff-Medium/dp/B0026JNXIE

2. What compression sack size for the regular alps mountaineering blaze -20?

You will need the XL (45L) compression stuff sack for the Blaze -20.

3. Does this bag have an attached label saying -20 degree bag?

Update: This bag does have an attached label that states it is for -20 degree. Hope this helps

4. Is this comfort rating of -20 or survival?

I used it in 20 degree weather with some serious humidity and it was extremely warm. I had a leg out and was half unzipped and still very comfortable. I highly recommend this bag. Very thick and the gaiters around the chest and head would probably make for a fairly comfortable -20 degree night, given it is used in the proper tent.

Kyle S. Cabral says: “This is really meant for when it’s super cold out. If I’m camping in 20 degree weather I use my Teton LEEF 0 Degree bag as part of my sleep system and I’m happy. But since I’m snowshoeing with a pulk sled I’m just going to throw my additional gear in the sled.

I am 5’6″ and 160lbs. and if feels surprisingly constrictive considering how big it is when you look at it. But when it’s really cold you don’t actually want too much space in your bag. I’m just warning you, if you’re a big person you might want to consider the bigger size (as if this thing could be any bigger lol).

How I’m making this work for backpacking: So I stuffed this HUGE sleeping bag into my 65 L backpack. It literally takes up 75% of the backpack. Then I stuck my additional clothes, and inflatable sleep mat in the top of my bag. My essentials are in the top and side pockets of my bag. My other sleep mat I hang off the bottom of my pack. My MSR Whisperlite stove, fuel, and food, cookware, insulated water bottles, and some firewood are all going into my sled. (My friend is carrying the 4-season tent.)

My sleep system: Therm-a-Rest Z Lite Sol (R-value: 2) and Therm-a-Rest Pro-Lite Sleeping Pad (R-value: 2.2) for a total R-value of 4.2. So with my pads, and this sleeping bag, in 5 degree temps we shall see! I’m only going to be 3 miles from the car worse-case scenario. Will update after my trip.

Update: it got down to about 5 degrees and I was nice and roasty toasty. I just had long johns and fleece sweat pants with a pair of wool socks..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. The title says 2.9-lb, but the “Description” section says it’s 4.1 lbs.. pretty big difference– can anyone share what the real weight is?

The 5-degree bag is 4.1 lbs, accounting for more insulation. the 20-degree bag is 2.9 lbs.

2. Although at times I will use a sleeping bag for colder (@ 32 F) weather, mostly I will use for warmer nights around 40-50 F. Will I be TOO warm?

This bag would probably be better for 40 to 50 f. When backpacking in San Jacinto Mtns this November and froze my butt offat 28 f. Hoping a liner will help.

3. If I’m 5’11” and 51″ at the shoulders, will this bag be too big for me? That is, will I have a lot of empty bag (dead space) past my feet?

I roughly measured from the bottom of the bag to where it becomes approx. 51 in wide. The measurement is 45″. So if your shoulders to your feet is less them 45″ that will give you the excess room. You can also move your body up in the bag but not any lower.

4. Is the total weight with its stuff sack 2.9 lbs? If not, what is the total weight including stuff sack?

Yes.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Potty training mom says: “Very comfortable and super light weight. I was a little skeptical that I would stay warm at night because it seemed a little thin, but I ended up unzipping about 18” of the bag at night. The inside material is beautifully comfortable to the skin. It comes in a stuff sack, and is a decent size on it’s own. I bought a Small sized Nelson-Rigg Compression sack, and I recommend that as well for this bag. It gets this back down to the size of a cantaloupe.

Jiajun Luo says: “Great bag for wet and damp environments. Best one in my past 7-year camping experience. I’ve taken this out a few times and it works like a champ! I even got toasty on a few 15° overnight trips. It performs as expected and the synthetic material dries fast. I LOVED the color and how compact it could get, it fit in the bottom of my 65L trekking bag no problem. I personally prefer this to a super expensive down bag that gets ruined by snow/condensation. This sleeping bag is like a hidden gem for backpackers who don’t want to shell out

Corbin P. says: “Love the bag! I was somewhat skeptical with how reasonably priced it is, but I’m a believer now. It’s a bright orange, very comfy, appropriately sized bag. I know the pictures aren’t amazing but I tried to show the size of the pocket and how the water beads up pretty well. I’m about 6′ and the length and width is plenty. Pros: -The fabric isn’t super plasticy, it feels better on bare skin than any of my other bags -It packs down smaller than they suggest (I got it to 11 X 8.5 X 8.5 without a struggle, which isn’t huge

Pros:
-The fabric isn’t super plasticy, it feels better on bare skin than any of my other bags
-It packs down smaller than they suggest (I got it to 11 X 8.5 X 8.5 without a struggle, which isn’t huge but gives a fair bit more room if you’re backpacking)
-I love that it has a little zip pocket inside, I use it to keep the battery life on longer trips [without my phone or goal zero sliding around my bag, the body heat helps]
-Super light
-I haven’t been through a rainstorm with it yet but I threw a bunch of water on it, it’s definitely water resistant
Cons:
-I haven’t found anything significant yet. are there bags that pack smaller? yes. lighter? yes. but honestly bang for your buck this is an amazing bag.

matthew says: “Great quality, very comfortable, and enough room to adjust/move around when sleeping. If your wanting a sleeping back that will not only keep you warm on your fall/winter/spring camping, hiking, or outdoor adventures, this would be the one. I have had many sleeping bags, and this is the best thus far. It is not a sleeping bag for backapacking trips, a bit bigger than I thought it would condense to. Well worth the purchase.
