Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. What is in the box?

Everything it states that is in the box..the Antenna, an 18ft cable, an amplifier, a usb power adapter and 3M stickers

2. will i get primium channels like HBO, Showtime and more?

Short answer is NO. I mean why would a cable company be able to charge $10 for each of those a month if everyone could simply buy a $20 antenna and get them free for life? Think about it. I bought this and simply download the torrent (not free either if you want to do that without getting caught, about $50 a year for a decent encrypted VPN) of the shows that are not broadcast for free. With just the antenna you get ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS, etc. Usually more than 1 subchannel of each so roughly 20-30 channels total depending on city.

3. How can I see if the antenna is good for my location?

When you click on the link given, the list of channels you get are with the assumption that you will be using an outdoor antenna, 30 feet in the air. Also, the list does not differentiate between an antennae with a 35 mile radius or 90 mile radius capability. Thus, very inaccurate IMO

4. will this unit receive UHF channels?

Yes

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Does the signal cut out during storms?

I’ve had some signal loss during storms, but on only a few channels. Most of the time, the antenna is stable

2. how do you install the hdtv indoor digital tv antenna?

I simply plugged it in leaned it against the window.

3. Is the antenna amplifier neccessary ? How do i order it?

It depends on where you live ,how far away you are from broadcast towers and your surroundings. If you live more than 35 miles from the broadcasts towers, or your surroundings is not flat, you are gonna need the amplifier. And this product has the function of a signal amplifier

4. How do you know if the antenna is good for your location?

even though this antenna doesn’t fully work in small suburban towns, when I connected to the antenna to my bedroom TV most of my channels were only 4 PBS channels and very boring and I could barely understand what they were saying it sounded like there were just babbling, now when I changed the antenna to my living room I apparently get 9 channels out of those nine channels I could maybe see from five to seven channels sometimes and for 30 minutes to an hour there is times that the channels are just babbling and you can’t understand what it’s saying and that’s some good weather so I could imagine in the bad weather how bad the antenna gets oh, now I’m going to try to get a converter box very soon and check to see if that will help me to get more channels and also of the channels are crystal clear. Is just doesn’t matter where you live you never know of the antennas going to work or not until you get it. Hope I was able to help

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Diane M. Fox says: “We got tired of the arbitrary and predatory billing practices of the large cable providers. My biggest concern about “cutting the cable” was lack of affordable access to local stations for news and weather. I live in Florida, and the sun is brutal on anything outdoors, so I wanted an indoor product. The XFTREE antenna was very easy to install and the picture quality is excellent. I receive more channels than the big networks, some I had never even heard of that are very interesting to watch! I posted photos to show how it just plugs into the back of the
TV and is small enough to hide behind house decor. The product is not unsightly, and if my placement interfered with reception I would happily hang it on the wall. I plan on buying one for each TV in the house. As I was writing this review it occured to me that in the event of a hurricane which brings on downed power and cable lines, I can power my TV with our generator and STILL get TV!.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. How does it connect to your tv? hdmi or coaxil cable?

It simply attaches directly to the back where the coaxial cable goes in. If you use the booster, that hooks into the USB port or the electrical outlet on the wall. I found the booster was not good for me. I got only 3 channels. I removed the booster and got 42 plus channels in my second room.

2. “Can this be used as a whole home antenna? “

i recommend that you use only one antenna per television. When you add a splitter that divides the received signal strength between each television which may mean that you may not get all of the channels you would get otherwise.

3. Will this work for UHF stations?

WE CAN RECEIVE 4 UHF STATIONS

We are located just east of Cleveland, Ohio within 20 miles of 6 local UHF (actual channels 15, 17, 26, 28, 30 and 61) transmitting towers which are for 6 virtual (5, 3, 25, 43, 55 and 61) channels. This particular antenna picks up 4 of those (virtual channels 5, 3, 55 and 61) along with their “sub-channels” totaling 19 “channels” reliably. There are also 2 VHF transmitters for virtual channels 8 and 19 (actually channels 8 and 10) within 20 miles of our location that it could not receive. So far we have tried 4 indoor antennas from Amazon, all of which picked up 4 or 5 actual UHF channels (along with sub-channels) and no VHF channels. All 4 of those antennas including this one claim they can receive both UHF and VHF channels in a “200-mile range” which (but it is important to realize) in reality that implies reception from transmitting towers within a 100-mile circumference of one’s location. This “UHF only, no VHF reception” situation we found should eventually not be a problem as we are advised by the Federal Communication Commission that in the near future ALL TV STATIONS in the United States will soon be moved to ACTUAL UHF CHANNELS regardless of what their virtual or perceived channels appear to be. For that reason we will not be buying an additional antenna to receive digital VHF channels and will be satisfied with this antenna for now to receive 4 of the actual UHF channels in our area along with all the streaming video capabilities of our “Amazon Fire TV” to round-out our family entertainment.

4. can it be hooked up with a traditional nonHD tv?

you don’t need a converter box unless your tv is an old tube type tv, with analog (manual and separate VHF/UHF) channel changer, On that type you will need a box that electronically identifies channels and transmits them to your tv on channel 3 or 4.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

L. Nieves says: “I was skeptical of course or rather just crossing my fingers that it would work. We have a tv in our bedroom and we want to get away from cable so we gave the cable box back to the company and decided we could stream netflix or amazon prime through that TV. Then I saw where you can put an hd antenna on the tv so I found this antenna and tried it. It’s super easy to setup and I scanned but there were no channels. I tried every option and nothing. I then Put the antenna just a foot higher
on my window and voila I got 8 channel. I looked at my window and my neighbors trees are all over the place so I placed it in the window beside it that has a clearing with no trees blocking the window and eureka I got 51 channels. I am one happy camper. I’m buying another one to put in my livingroom tv so we can turn that cable box in as well since we don’t watch much tv in the livingroom. That’s 14 dollars off our bill and once our contract is up we’re saying bye bye to cable all together and just keeping internet for roku but for now 51 channels on those tv’s that are hardly used is the bomb..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Do you need wifi to us this?

No. It is a simple tv antenna. I bought a Pyle tv from Amazon. The original antenna wire was small gauge and broke. I got this and I can sit in my truck at work and watch almost 30 over the air free channels. The tv does have a booster. People have a everything is WiFi mentality now.

2. Is this antenna effective when mounted in a horizontal position (e.g., sticking out perpendicular from the back of the TV, or stuck to a wall)?

Mine is stuck to the side of the building (horizontally like you’re asking) and I get great reception. Channels are limited where I am, however the channels I get are clear as day.

3. does this help your WiFi signal to the tv? Will it stop it from buffering

No. It has nothing to do with WiFi. It is for over the air tv reception. Works very well for us.

4. Will this work to get local stations?

Yes. My antenna brings in many local broadcast stations–more than 20. Most of the towers are around 15 miles away but the advertising says it can bring in channels for up to 50 miles. The picture is very good.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Thomas D. says: “One great little antenna that gets the job done. I live in a garden apartment. I am approx 45 miles from the transmitter towers. I placed the antenna on a bookshelf about 4 feet above ground level and nowhere near a window, ran a channel search and got 22 stations– all crystal clear. I am in a direct line with a busy regional airport and aircraft have no effect on transmission as they did with a directional antenna. This little gem is worth the price. Highly recommended!

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. How any antenna words depends on your exact location. does anyone know how to find out about that? or even, how does it do in mesa az?

I made a list of TO DOs for Antenna buyers I’ll share here:1. First go to TVFOOL dot com. And type in your ZIP CODE. You will see a color coded list of possible channels, and the most informative info of any antenna site.2. From their list for your Zip Code look at the specs called “LOS” Line of site — can you see the tower? and “1-edge” and “2-edge” — this tells how many mountains are in your distance making these channels more difficult to get their signal.3. IF you are too close to a Tower, disconnect the ‘amplifier’ and try again without it. YOU may have to move the Antenna around to ‘AIM’ it directly at the visible towerI have to do the ‘aiming’ in order to get the 13 available channels I get.4. An antenna with the largest size square inches will pick up better reception from my experience. I am using the ANTV 25 miles HDTV antenna $9.99 on Amazon w/ included stand with GREAT local results, and have ordered the ANTV 30 Miles HDTV $12.99 Amazon — larger sq. inches size BOTH NON-amplified type antennas and should get better reception, not more channels! This 1byOne antenna is larger size sq. inches of surface and as soon as it arrives tomorrow will test it out on my TV’s. My local channels are all “LOS — Line of site” so I will aim the new antennas at the visible tower 8 miles away. Even the multi antennas have to be aimed by me and I returned a ANTV AMPLIFIED antenna – reception was worse than non-amplified due to closeness of 8 mile away towers!** YOU will not receive 30-50-100 channels UNLESS the towers are near you and are not obstructed by mountains/terrain etc. TVFOOL,com list will give you best idea WHAT channels are within your reach/terrain/distance/line of sight. And “NO” no one is paying me or giving me free antennas I also pay with my own money, just sharing my findings to fellow Amazon shoppers, as many of us do at times. Good luck and happy channel hunting. I can only get 13 total in-range channels from my location, Quite Happy with that.

2. I was excited to get the 50 mile range antenna as a gift however it does not pick up all of the local network affiliate channels. Suggestions?

3. Hi if I am unable to pick up the major channels will I have to pay for the shipping to ship it back to you?

Vendor, that doesn’t answer the question. The question is: does the purchaser have to pay return shipping if the product doesn’t pick up many channels?

4. Would this product work in an area with a good amount of trees? I have 6 useable towers within 27 miles on average distance.

Not sure what a “good amount” means.. i have around 6-7 trees around my home and a golf course and i got 50+stations, i did use http://www.antennaweb.org to find out how many stations i may have access to before i purchased. I would give it a try and if you are not happy you can always return it. I highly recommend.

In my quest to save a little money, I thought why not drop my cable? Or at least reduce my cable bill by getting rid of channels I can get for free over the air. Ok, now that I had a plan and a goal to achieve, I set out on a quest to find an HD antenna that would suit my needs.

The quest was not that long or epic, thankfully it was pretty easy. I did a few quick searches and found 1byone, a company that makes many different HD antenna solutions. I felt I was sure to find the device I needed from them, and I was right. I purchased the 1byone Shiny Antenna super thin version from Amazon. After reading the reviews and looking over the features, I was very impressed and excited to get it home and set it up.

The setup process was pretty easy and straightforward. You plug the antenna into the tv’s antenna input, go to “my setting” and scan for channels. The first time I did this I was a little disappointed, I had only got 28 channels. After carefully reading the instructions and putting my tech mind to work I thought hmm I should have placed the antenna in a window facing the great outdoors, walls and other objects can block signal so let’s bypass this stuff. I did another scan and got 58 channels. Wow I did not know there was so many local HD and non HD channels free over the air.

To my surprise, I did not have to use the supplied amplifier and the window I placed it near was less than 20 feet from my main tv. I get mostly all the channels I could want for my needs. Here in my area, I am lucky enough to be within 50 miles of Philly where the broadcast tower is located. You can find out how close your local broadcast tower is by doing a quick google search. I am extremely satisfied and blown away how good this antenna works and the HD quality you get from your local broadcast.

I definitely recommend the 1byone Shinny HD Antenna, however before you cancel or cut your cable subscription, purchase this product and test it out. Its very inexpensive for what entertainment it can provide. I know some people who connected the antenna to their child’s tv for local kids shows, this was a good idea it eliminates the need to rent another cable box. Also, your performance will vary depending on a number of factors: what’s available in your area, your desired entertainment needs as well as objects that may be blocking the HD signal.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Can you program the remote to control your TV?

Read the manual friend. The remote does control (it can, in the settings) the TV.

2. Anyone have any issues with their recording schedules disappearing? Mine wiped all my schedules.

All of a sudden the recording did not work. I did a factory reset (it is under the Menu and gear icon) and it started working fine. The downside is that I had to enter the recording schedules again.

4. Hi folks what external hard drive do you use with this? Thanks lynn

I used a 500GB salvaged out of an old laptop that was totally dead. I ordered a cheap $7.99 ORICO USB3.0 to SATA III 2.5″ External Hard Drive Enclosure from Amazon as well to mount it in.Worked perfectly.I’ve also used a cheap (free) 32GB USB thumb drive that I didn’t have any problem with.Got that thumb drive free from a Microcenter computer store.

Insert a USB Flash Drive (any kind will work – it does not have to be a “fast writing” one, but get one with at least 32 GB of memory, preferably more, if you do not delete shows after watching them). One hour of recording is about 6 GB.
Press the Menu button and arrow over to the 2nd icon (Picture) to set your screen size, then arrow over to the 3rd icon (Channel search) to automatically scan for channels (takes a few minutes). Next, arrow over to the 4th icon (Time) to set your time zone with DST ON (if in daylight saving time). You must set the local time correctly or shows will not be recorded correctly.
To record a program: push the EPG button & arrow sideways to get to the channel you want, then arrow down to the program & time that program is offered , press OK, arrow down to once, daily, or weekly, then press OK.
To watch a recoded program: push the USB button, arrow over to PVR icon>OK, HBPVR>OK, arrow up or down to your recorded program>OK. This will start the program off to the side of the TV screen, so then push the HOLD button to make it full screen. After that, use the typical play, pause, fast forward, etc. buttons on the remote..

I was really skeptical and did a lot of research before spending $$, but seriously this thing is awesome! It’s not the most attractive thing connected to my window, but free tv is free tv 😊 I have so many more channels than I thought I did. And Amazon had a Black Friday sale so I don’t feel guilty at all. Definitely a worthy purchase! If you do think of buying one

though, there is website to check to see if it will work in your area. I was going to buy my sister one too but they don’t get reception where she is at, just FYI..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. how do I get around the encrypted signals from charter to receive the former free channels? ….without getting their box.

You CAN’T. The DTA-800B1 does NOT work for cable television. It only is capable of receiving and decoding over-the-air digital broadcast television channels (a format called “ATSC”), not cable channels (using a format called “QAM”).

2. Will this unit allow me to use cable TV on an analog television?

No, not if you’re looking for it to unscramble the cable channels? You would need a designated cable descrambler box to receive cable channels on your analog TV! All the RCA box will do is allow you to receive the free on air channels which are now in digital format instead of the old analog format.

3. Can unwanted channels be deleted/skipped when scrolling up or down?

If you happen to purchase a used older version of this box (DTA-800 or DTA-800B, or even some early versions of the 800B-1), the ability to add and delete channels is almost impossible to find. The newer versions of this unit apparently have “fixed” this oversight.

4. Do you just use the old rabbit ear antennas? Or do you need to get a new one that receives the digital signal, or does this receive the signal?

Any antenna will do. I get this question a lot. An antenna does not care if the signal is digital or analog, UHF/VHF broadcast is still the same frequency. Some of the new antennas pick up the signal a little better, but even the old “Rabbit Ear” antenna will work.

TrojanPeace says: “I just needed simple, for my late 90’s digital Zenith TV, which I’d now like to use in my kitchen. Some pretty good reviews convinced me to go with this item. I always make certain to purchase new products. This particular time, I’d meant to order new, and mistakenly purchased used. My device did not come with remote, nor user manual, and -with a few nicks in the product- was wrapped in bubble packaging, with no product box. Upon returning online to complain, I’d discovered description confirmation of the missing items; so, I cannot complain, because receiving this waste of money
is my fault. I can not get it to do anything with my television, and I am so irked that the effort to even try to return it infuriates me. If I buy the remote separately and it still does not work, I may just go all Carrie at the prom. Please pay attention when making your purchases. So, how many stars do I give this purchase? It is physically as described, and it powers on. Because I can not determine if it does what it’s supposed to do, two stars should do.

September 7th, 2017 update:
So, after taking a chance on ordering the remote control that would come with this device -if it were new- the remote arrived wrapped the same (in an envelope, no box, no instructions). Fortunately, the remote works well, showing me that the converter also works well. There is no need for instructions, and no need to synch anything. My box and TV are in harmony. Channel scan was easy. I like the way TV show names are listed along with each channel, before making a channel selection. I’m happy. I’ve decided five stars should replace my previous remoteless rating of two stars..

Question for “Guitar Playing Guy” I tried to connect a completely new and functioning external HD and have been unable to get a consistently reliable connection. It supplies power to the drive, but 9 times out of 10 shows up on screen as not being connected. I suspect a very cheap USB component in the box, since it has a lot of play once the cable is connected and the cable will not snap into place AT ALL. It’s like trying to work with a plug made of barely held together parts.Their product description here reads:”All you need to do is hookup a digital TV antenna to your AT-263! Want to record? Just plug in a flash / thumb drive or an external hard drive into the USB port on your unit, and you’re ready to go!”This is obviously not the case (at least for me and a number of others who have commented about this very issue).UPDATE:As of June 18, 2016 I’m returning the item due to the many flaws that prevent it from being used as advertised.

4. Can I use it to watch TV on a projector using the coaxial cable to this box and then the hdmi out to the projector?

Yes. Need an antenna. It is not a cable box. Only clear cable channels will work if using cable. Cable companies scamble most channels

I’ve been using this for one week. I could not be more pleased. For $35, plus a cheap USB drive, I have a perfectly functional digital video recorder. As a bonus, the tuner on this device pulls in more channels than my TV does.

I bought this one, as opposed to all other look-alikes on Amazon, because it can be set up to feed the antenna signal through the device. That way, you don’t need an antenna splitter and an extra run of coax cable to be able to watch TV on one channel while recording on another.

Took me maybe 10 minutes to set it up and start recording. The device was set more-or-less completely set up to work with my TV, right out of the box. Connected the antenna coax to the input. Connected the HDMI output to the TV. Plugged in a USB drive. And ran coax from the output of the tuner to the input of the TV, then used the setup menu to pass the antenna signal through to the TV.

I found the following shortcomings, all of which I judge to be minor. As noted by others, you have to point the remote at the box to get it to work. Some of the key presses are not intuitive. Sometimes if I hit the wrong key, I can’t seem to recover, and the quickest solution is to turn it off and back on again. And, unique to my setup, there is some crosstalk between the remote for this device and the remote for our sound bar. And you have to fast-forward through commercials manually. (But on the plus side, the FF function goes up to 32x normal speed, which is very fast.)

All of which I resolved by a) pointing the remote at the box and b) learning to hit the right keys, at the right time.

Here’s the back story. I wanted to record a show that is broadcast daily. I figured, how hard can that be?

I looked at Tivo and found out that a) you have to pay a fairly substantial subscription fee, and b) it’s a Big Brother device that reports your TV watching back to Tivo central. Forget that. Next I looked at a few purpose-built DVRs that are still available, but they all seemed to cost in the $400 range. That seemed like a lot of money for a fairly basic task. And then there was a whole bunch of devices just like this — digital tuners with just enough functionality to be able to record a show. Anywhere from $20 to $40, but you have to add your own disk drive. With very mixed reviews. I figured it was worth a gamble. And it looks like it has paid of for me. Mine works great, for the task I bought it for.

If you want to record something at a given time, the menu for setting that up is about as straightforward as it gets. Give it the channel, the start time, the stop time, and it’ll record that every day. As long as there is power to the device, it’ll turn itself on to record. It dumps a file to the USB drive that shows the channel, date, and time. To play it back, click on the file name. At that point, it works just like any other recording device..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Can this do analog cable tv?

The ViewTV AT-300 –WILL– handle non-scrambled, non-encrypted analog cable channels. That is, those basic cable channels that are on most cable systems that do not require a box from the cable company in order for your TV to receive these basic analog cable channels. The “box” that the cable company provides, are for those scrambled/encrypted cable channels that do require the cable box with a CableCard in order to receive these. The scrambled/encrypted cable channels are those of the upper tier packages that most cable providers offer, in addition to the hand full of basic (analog) cable channels. When using the AT-300 for basic, unscrambled, unencrypted analog channels, you must setup the unit for “CABLE” in the setup menu, rather then for “AIR” which is for OTA (over-the-air) broadcasts. However, this unit will not do BOTH OTA and CABLE at the same time though, (its either one or the other) but you can purchase a second unit for both your basic cable and your OTA, if you have multiple inputs on your TV (i.e. coax input and 1 or more HDMI inputs, or multiple HDMI inputs, etc.)

2. Does this box work with Comcast .?

It “might” work on Comcast cable for Comcast’s basic cable package, which is their first few analog channels. These are normally unscrambled/non-encrypted channels. You can test to see if you have that available on your Comcast cable, by plugging the coax cable directly into a TV (with a tuner) and see if you are getting any of the starting basic cable channels. Or call your cable provider and ask them if their very basic cable package offers unencrypted channels. When using this box on a cable system, you must change it to in the setup menu. This box will only pick up any non-encrypted, non-scrambled analog cable channels.

3. does a hard drive have to be fat32. How do you do this with a hard drive?

Small flash drives will work no problem. The manual says it can handle1TB external hard drive tried it did not work but I figured it out the units usb doesn’t have enough power to run bigger storage devices you need to run power to the external hard drive.I used a 4 way powered USB splitter. Run the power wire to the splitter the main feed wire to the Viewtv converter. Now you have 4 usb ports, plug the external hard drive in to the USB splitter then it will work. You can use a smallersplitter thats up to you. And I tried my 2TB hard drive and it workeddidn’t say that in the directions. And I plugged a $10.00 remote control extender in the usb splitter and that solved the bad remote reception. This is why we all need to help each other because the people who make this product obviously doesn’t know their own products.

4. I have a smart tv with the antanna conection broken off the back. Can I use this for my (antenna in) and (hdmi out) to the tv

This will output over HDMI, yes. My TV doesn’t have a built in tuner, and therefore has no coaxial input. I output to the television over HDMI without issue.

I recently cut my Fios TV and put up an antenna, since the channel I watch probably 95% of the time is OTA free, so I tested to make sure I can receive that channel well, and I do, so Fios TV is gone!
Now since cutting Fios, I needed a couple of these boxes for the rooms in my house, so the first one I had bought here was the Homeworx HW180STB. I love it. It’s a great simple box. But since I needed another one, I figured I wanted to try one that has a LCD panel on the front to show the time/channel. So I found here the, Edal Digital ATSC HD TV Receiver. That one stinks! Well the biggest issue was, it didn’t receive my channel (MeTv), from the exact same antenna that others did. So for that alone I wouldn’t keep it. But besides that it took forever to do a channel search, like 15 minutes! And you’d think if it’s searching so slow it would at least find more channels than others, but not the case, it found less. And like I said, the channel I watch most it didn’t pick up either. So I packed that up, and back it went to Amazon. So I then got this ViewTv AT-300 since it also had the front LCD display, and it looked to be better quality. I just got this delivered yesterday, this is hands down my favorite box of the 3 brands I tried (Homeworx, Edal, ViewTv) it searched through the channels in less than 4 minutes, and found all my channels. It works great with my Toshiba 500Gb external hard drive for recording. It’s awesome!

P.s. Like all these boxes, the remote stinks. It’s a really cheap genetic remote that’s so bad you’ll think the box is slow, but it’s the remote. Thank God I had a Logitech harmony remote, so I programmed that remote for this box and it’s like a whole different box now. Responds quick. Smooth. It’s awesome! So if your having these issues don’t blame the box, blame the remote. (You can get the older model, Harmony 300 Remote, here on Amazon, for not too much. I’d definitely recommend this for these boxes cause they all come with the same crap remotes. And the Harmony remote you’ll be able to program for the TV too, and to a speaker system too if you have).
