Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Does it have a 2.1 input

All four of the HDMI inputs on the LG CX 55 inch Class 4K Smart OLED TV w/ AI ThinQ® (54.6” Diag), Model # OLED55CXPUA are full spec HDMI 2.1 ports and they are all HDCP 2.2 compliant. HDMI IN 2/eARC supports HDMI eARC functionality^IFV

2. Does it have 2.1 hdmi?

Only partial 2.1 support. It does have 2.1 ports but the hardware is only designed to handle 40Gbps maximum instead of the full 48Gbps the specification allows. This is because the display panels can only display a 10-bit 4K picture at 120hz. The HDMI 2.1 spec allows for a 12-bit signal at 4K and 120hz which the panel is incapable of doing.

3. Does the optional protection plan cover burn-in?

The Geek Squad plan is NOT ridiculous, if you consider it’s the only plan you can buy anywhere that covers burn-in. And, that’s exactly where I will be buying this tv from.

4. What refresh rate can cx do at 1080p, 1440p, and 4k when connected to a pc?

The LG CX 55 inch Class 4K Smart OLED TV w/ AI ThinQ® (54.6” Diag), Model # OLED55CXPUA will support 1920 x 1080 @ 120Hz, 2560 x 1440 @ 120Hz when HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color is set to On, and 3840 x 2160 @ 60Hz when connected to a PC^IFV

Updated review (10/13/2020)

Mounting was a breeze. Took about 10 minutes to screw the mount into the back of the TV. Most of that time was ensuring that I attached to the desired holes on the mount, as the mount supported attaching the TV at multiple locations. It does take 2 people to mount. I don’t care how strong you think you are. It’s not a weight issue so much as it’s a wingspan issue. The required placement of your hands, so you don’t damage the EXTREMELY thin screen, doesn’t allow for only holding the entire TV with 2 hands. I solicited the help of my visiting in-law. We picked it up, hooked the mount to the wall and presto we were done. Plugged in the power and cables and ready to watch.

Recommendation: Pay the extra money and get an AC outlet directly behind the TV. They sell power cable in-wall kits that don’t require an electrician and I’m sure those work just as well. Basically those are just cable routing outlets that allow you to use an electrical extender to bring power from the outlet behind your ground-level furniture thru the wall up to the extension “outlet”. It’s cool because it’s really just a fancy extension cord so you aren’t faced with the cost of an electrician to install a new outlet. Point is…get an extender or a new outlet. Either way you’re not going to want to see cables dangling down the wall after mounting your beautiful, expensive TV. I had to get a real outlet installed because the wall I mounted on was an outdoor perimeter wall, so the thickness between the dry wall and the concrete block left about 1.25 inches of space. My electrician had to feed the cables thru the wall until his hands were bleeding (better him than me) as the space was so small. The wall mount had to be drilled thru the drywall directly into the concrete also. Upside, that TV is never falling off the wall. I could hang 10 TVs off that mount. I jest.

Also I bought an LED strip that is stuck to the back of the TV. It plugs directly into the USB input on the back of the TV so it turns on/off with the TV. You can change the colors but I just go with a soft white and it really compliments the TV and provides an outer glow which can be seen in my attached photos.

Original review…
Everyone talks about the amazing picture quality so I won’t bother with that. Let’s just say it’s incredible.

Something that really impressed me is the thickness of the actual screen. It’s thinner than my iPhone X. The “downside” to the screen being this thin is when we lifted it I was concerned about applying too much pressure and potentially causing damage as it flexed. The instructions discuss how to hold the TV when lifting it whereas most of the pressure is actually to the bottom half of the TV so it isn’t really a problem but something to be cognizant of.

It’s easy to access all the inputs/outputs on the back. 4 of the HMDI ports are actually on the left side (facing the TV). The power cord is on the right side, although rear facing. That’s not a complaint, I just want to provide that information.

Setup couldn’t be easier. I had my cable box connected thru HDMI and my PS4 connected thru HDMI as well. Then I turned on the TV for the first time. Over the course of a few minutes the TV detected everything that was plugged in and asked a question “are these the correct components plugged in?” Aside from providing the wifi password I didn’t have to get involved in the setup at all. After everything was setup I plugged in my Bose Soundbar. I tried using the HDMI eArc plug which failed as it always has (same lack of success on my previous TV). I’ve come to the conclusion that the only way to get the Bose Soundbar to work is thru the optical cable, and I don’t put the blame on LG. That is certainly a Bose shortcoming. Regardless, I plugged it in thru the optical port. You have to navigate to the “All Settings” menu thru the TV to the sound settings. There is a selection to use Optical, TV, Both, etc. When I made the correct choice it worked as expected.

The TV also comes with an over the air LG TV service. That was completely unexpected. I confused that with the cable provided by my Spectrum cable box. Once I realized what was happening I was pleasantly excited. I don’t know if I will use it, but considering the cost of cable it is something I will investigate further.

We had the Amazon Fire TV on our older TV and don’t need it anymore on this new TV. All those same services that we use, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Disney Plus and Hulu are built in. As expected an enormous number of other services are also available. That is very convenient.

In conclusion I recommend this TV purchase with zero hesitation..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. So many one-star reviews from people that don’t understand TV measurements. Screen size refers to the diagonal measurement not the width.

The real problem here is not understanding that ALL TV’s including Solo Nur Ali’s Sony Trinitron are measured diagonally. Now for the tricky part who knows the difference between 4:3 and 16:9 are and what they refer to? The former would be Ali’s Trinitron and the latter would be almost any TV sold today. The ratios have a major effect on a TV’s overall dimensions too.

2. will it work with air play?

Apple air

3. Does a standard mount work for this tv?

The Vesa norm of the 43,50,55 inches=200×200; 65=400x300mm; 75=400×400; 85=600×400. I decided for this wall mount > https://topreviews24..com/full-motion-wall-mount/mounting-dream-md2380/ < and I'm very happy with it!

4. Do I have to add anything to this system to stream from Amazon Prime?

The TV has it all, it has Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, and many more. Two of my TV’s got hit by lightening, and I replaced them with two of these, and put my Amazon Cube into the closet, the TV is fantastic. I bought it in Sam’s Club, and it came with a 3 year warranty from Samsung, plus my credit card adds two more years to that. The lightening was the best thing to happen to me. I love the TV’s I bought.

Even when viewing a 55” or larger tv the compare feature here is still showing for their smaller versions. This has lead to a lot of “I didn’t know this

This has lead to a lot of “I didn’t know this was 60 fps when I bought it but I can’t tell” because it is actually 120 if 55″ or larger.

Hope this helps, look up the stats elsewhere.

Besides this the tv is great, the colors are amazing compared to a normal tv but the RU8000 has a deeper color palette. Basically this is the economy version of the RU8000 but performs very well. It does very well, maybe even the best in it’s class for 4k. The input lag is very low so this could be used for gaming very easily. The gaming mode actually scores better than the movie picture mode in most reviews. The initial settings will need to be tweaked to run this at it’s full potential. Just look up online the best setting than your good to go. After being optimized this tv scored a 9.0 for 4k TV’s, pre-optimized settings it scored a 7.9.

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Karl Calixto says: “I purchased the 55” one…AND IT’S HUGE. I had done a lot of research before getting a TV, and I already love LG products, but movies are a big part of my life, so I went to stores first to see the difference of image quality and I knew LG was the one I needed/wanted. I saw this new 2020 model on Amazon and bought it. I literally couldn’t be happier. I love my TV, I love its features, I love the magic remote control that works as a mouse for PC’s or laptops, the image quality, the sound quality, you

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Will this support 120hz for ps5? The previous questions werent clearly answered

While our 5-Series does not support 4k/120Hz, it does have ALLM for a and a great low input lag. For advanced gaming features including the world’s first THX Certified Game Mode, take a look at our Award Winning 6 Series! Hope this helps! Thank you, TCL Customer Support

2. Does it support hdmi 2.1?

It’s still a native 60Hz panel. Do your research. Regardless what it “supports”, the max FPS will be 60 because it’s a 60Hz panel. So for example, if you connect a gaming PC to it and post a fps counter, depending on the PC specs and game you play, it might say you are getting 200FPS but the max your going to actually see is 60 FPS because you are limited to the display panel. Also “natural motion 240” is fancy talk for their black frame insertion technology they use to reduce motion blur and artifacts. Again, do your research if you are planning to buy a TV for next-gen consoles and 120 hz gaming. if you are looking for a TV specifically for high refresh rate gaming and low latency input, this is not the TV for you.

3. Is it able to be used with a standard wall mount? Are any additional accessories needed?

Absolutely! This 50 inch TCL Roku TV is compatible with most wall mounts that support a 200mm x 200mm VESA mounting pattern. You would need to provide any sort of mounting hardware or bracket. Hope this helps! Thank you, TCL Customer Support

4. How wide are the footings on the 75”? I have a 60” wide table for the TV and need to know if it will fit.

For this 75 inch TCL Roku TV, there are actually 2 different options for feet placement. At the wider position, the feet spacing to fit on a stand is 71.5 inches. At the more narrow position, the feet spacing to fit on a stand is 36.2 inches. You would simply choose whichever option would best fit your home setup. Hope this helps! Thank you, TCL Customer Support

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Max Haubrich says: “This is my second TCL TV (I purchased a 55″ series 5 model about 2 years ago and it’s still kicking) and I have to say the quality on these things is fantastic for the price! I’m not the pickiest TV shopper, but I needed a 4k TV with HDR support for the PS5 this fall. Needless to say this thing is a huge upgrade from the 32” Vizio TV it was replacing. While yes, this doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of a more expensive TV (HDMI 2.1 ports in particular) this will more than get the job done.

While yes, this doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of a more expensive TV (HDMI 2.1 ports in particular) this will more than get the job done. To be honest, I really doubt many games will even take advantage of those features so as far as my money is concerned this TV is a great buy for someone looking for amazing image quality at a low price.

The only downside to the particular unit I received is a dim backlight in the four corners which is only really noticeable when white (or really light) content is on the screen. Since we’re in the middle of a pandemic I’m not gonna be picky about getting an exchange for it because it really isn’t noticeable 99% of the time.

Even if you don’t play games and are only using this TV for streaming content like Netflix, Hulu, Disney + etc. it’s more than worth it. The Roku interface is so snappy and it’s just overall such a joy to use this thing..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Does it have hdmi 2.1?

It has an HDMI 2.1 port, but does not support ANY HDMI 2.1 features at this time. From Sony’s own website:

5 4K120 will be available via a future firmware update.
6 eARC will be available via a future firmware update.
7 VRR will be available via a future firmware update.
8 ALLM will be available via a future firmware update.

These are footnotes from their product page, you have to look at the specs and see the *, then scroll ALL the way to the bottom and click to open the footnotes. They’ve made it incredible easy to miss, and one would guess it’s on purpose. For the same reason they’ve chosen to mislead people in their support responses here on Amazon.com

2. Does this have an atsc 3.0 tuner (nextgen tv)?

Hi, Brian Haskell, Yes, the X900H supports ATSC 3.0 (NEXTGEN TV). Thanks! Jay

3. When the firmware is updated how many of the 4 hdmi ports will support hdmi 2.1 earc and 48 gbps transfer rate?

Hi spike,

HDMI IN 3 & 4 will support eARC and 48 Gbps transfer rate – via future firmware update.

Regards,
David

4. Is the x900h ready for ps5 and xbox series x with 2.1 hdmi or no

Hi eduardo, There is much confusion about the HDMI versions and concerns about compatibility. For this reason, we do not promote the HDMI versions incorporated on many of our products. Instead, we advertise the features of a product that are associated with a particular HDMI version. For X900H, the TV will support up to 48 Gbps transfer rate to support 4K120, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) via a future firmware update. These features will support next consoles.”

I selected the X900H for the same reason many of you will – I wanted a great set today that will be ready for PS5 in the near future. All I can comment on is how good the set is today, one week after its release. In a word: fantastic.

I am a post-production professional. I’ve seen video look its absolute best in the same rooms and on the same displays as the guys who finish projects before they go out into the wild. Having experience with a professionally calibrated grading monitor, when it comes to selecting gear for my own home I’m very particular about what I choose and do patient research with the goal of coming as close as possible to that level of performance without spending a fortune. When I calibrate my personal TVs, I aim for accuracy. My living room is light controlled. I use test patterns to set the black level, the white level, and the color saturation using those old school blue THX glasses. Yeah, I’m that guy. I do it all by eye, I haven’t paid to have someone come out with a Colorimeter and CALMAN and get this thing science-lab perfect, okay? On the weekends I’m a regular joe with a remote control and snacks that wants to watch some TV and wants it to look “correct”. Having said all of that – I’m blown away by this TV’s performance. I’ve got it calibrated to my liking and this thing makes content look like it’s coming right out of the studio. I feel like my living room is my edit bay and this is the reference monitor.

Black levels are nearly-perfect and completely uniform. Colors are very natural. I’ll save space by just saying – it lives up to Sony’s reputation for image quality. I’ve watched blu-rays in SDR, Ultra HD blu-rays in HDR10, Netflix in Dolby Vision, Disney Plus in HDR10, PS4 games in SDR and HDR, even DVDs. They all look great. No funky colors. No weird artifacts. No need for extra words.

Read any enthusiast forum about TVs and you’ll hear about blooming. I’ve seen it bloom once or twice during PS4Pro gaming sessions on loading screens. Never during HDR movies or normal content. You a videophile? You can tweak this TV to your heart’s content. Want to change something about the picture? There’s a slider for that.

I was replacing a Sony I’ve owned since 2008, which still looks great today, I only wanted a larger screen and wanted to go 4K. I’m very pleased with the X900H’s performance. Same goes for the build quality. The design is elegant and looks great in the room. Nothing feels cheap. The packaging was safe, secure, and not wasteful. The experience with Amazon was 5 star. Placed order on a Monday, greeted the UPS man on Thursday. If I have any regrets at all about the purchase – I kinda wish I’d gotten the biggest one they make even though I don’t have the space for it..

Aesthetics: I’m super picky about bezels. I can’t STAND a thick bezel. You could show me a great picture with a thick bezel and I would hate the TV. I’m happy to see they’ve decreased the bezel size in this years models its truly a piece of art. I wasn’t overly excited when I saw the pictures of the stand legs, but they turned out to be better than I thought. I would still prefer them to be on the outer edge of the TV, but I understand why Sony decided to go with the placement since finding a TV stand to accommodate for legs any further spread out, especially with the TV size would be a lot more difficult. The legs are a sturdy build with a nice finish in case you do not mount makes me think twice about mounting.

Set-up/Software: Seamless. I fell in love with my prior Sony model and I’m glad to see they’ve kept the key features and added on some. The android interface is a very intuitive All in all it was super-fast, super easy. Screens were fluid and easy to understand. As a photographer I tend to get frustrated easy when things aren’t natural, but the TV has a good UI/UX design. It has all the apps I need/use (and then some). I love having Netflix and Prime as an app. Definitely a plus since I listen to music on my TV through my surround sound often and used to resort to using a ChromeCast to do so now I just use google music built into TV. The google assistant is super easy and awesome love telling my TV to watch my favorite programs or listen to my favorite music when remote isn’t handy.

Picture: What everyone wants to know! It’s great! For the model/price point, I don’t think you can beat the picture. Compared to the similar brands like Samsung, this is definitely a lot sharper NO competition but I expect nothing less from Sony. The blacks are darker and the whites brighter. The presets for different picture modes are incredible and you can switch easily depending on what you watch. I find myself sticking to “Standard” mode the most. There is little to no glare on the screen, and I have the TV placed right next to a wall of windows with the blinds open 90% of the time. I think the “Standard” TV mode helps in this regard as well. The game mode is awesome I already see a huge difference in latency compared to my older TV. COD has never played so well. The TV is incredibly bright I was really surprised but it also looked clear and crisp. The HDR on Netflix was amazing everything looked incredibly lifelike it out shines all higher end TV’s i’ve purchased in the past I guess technology just gets better and better.

Other: I love the remote. I know the TV is still in the entry/mid level category, but the remote is sleeker and “smart.” Love the netflix button top notch Sony. There’s plenty of inputs and connectivity through android gives me everything I need. Can’t be any happier with my purchase..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Does sony x950h tv have hdmi 2.1?

Hello Laxma, Unfortunately, no. The XBR-85X950H does not have HDMI 2.1 spec. HDMI 2.1 spec for 8K signal is on the 8K XBR-85/98Z9G and 8K XBR-75/85Z8H models. Thanks! – Romeo

2. What features/specs is the 49-inch missing from the 55-inch and up?

Hi Autumn Grey,

The 49” does not have X-Wide Angle, Hands Free Voice Search or Dual position stand (which the larger screen sizes do). All X950H series shares the exact same technologies like 4K HDR, X1 Ultimate Picture Processor, X-Motion Clarity – 120HZ, Android TV w/ Google Assistant and Alexa/AirPlay/HomeKit Compatible.

David

3. Can the hdtv output 5.1 sound through the digital out toslink connection?

This TV also has eARC and will pass through Dolby Atmos via eARC on HDMI or 7.1 L-PCM via eARC over HDMI. 5.1 is the max you can get from the good old optical toslink connection. Only way to get Atmos or 7.1 is to either split your HDMI output from all your devices, (Apple TV, XBox, Dish, blu ray) or get TV W/ eARC. You could also get AVR and plug all your devices into it, but then that would need to be able to pass through all video formats at all required resolutions, with the right color range, for everything you want right now, but you should consider the future as well.

4. Bought this tv and love it, but supposedly it requires an adapter to connect to older devices via component/rca. what adapter is required to do this?

Hi there,

We appreciate you love your new 49X950H 4K Ultra HD TV. To connect your audio/video components, you will need to have an Analog Extension Cable. Should you need more assistance or information on how to get this connecting cable, please follow the steps below for ways to contact us.

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Eric B. says: “This TV is a beautiful device, worthy of the cost. We purchased this as a replacement for our 2009 50 inch Panasonic plasma. It’s a fine successor to what was a fantastic tv for many years. Finally a tv that offers the quality of a plasma without the risk of burn in (like OLED). That is once the second one arrived two days later. The first one sent to us had clearly been run into by a forklift in the bottom left corner. Upon removal from the box the device was found shattered and completely ruined. Amazon was great about getting
a replacement to use less then 48 hours later though, so that’s something.

The Sony x950h is a relatively simple upgrade over the 2019 g model, one of the two biggest differences being in its audio quality. Now if you have a great sound system already you might be able to save a few bucks and go with last years addition. From my research the two are nearly identical in overall image quality. In my case we decided on the h precisely because we don’t have room for a decent surround sound setup. In fact I’d say it’s audio quality is equal to a good sound bar and should be more then enough for most folks.

The picture quality is great with one small draw back (I say draw back but it’s more like a trade off). The viewing angle on this TV is fantastic, much better than the 2019 model. But to achieve this and it’s rather dark blacks, they had to cut down on the number of zones for the full array LED lighting. As a result you may notice a slight bloom effect around things like credits and subtitles, especially when viewing in a very dark room. You could simply turn this feature off, but you will greatly sacrifice the darkness of your blacks as a result. I only notice it very infrequently, so it’s not a deal breaker for me.

The built in smart tv software is fine for anyone without a dedicated media device. We are only using it for YouTube at this point, everything else is viewed on an Apple TV 4K. Can’t wait for Apple to make their device fully compatible with the YouTube app, but until then, the Android Tv will suffice. Setting options are easily accessible and paired well with a cheap feeling but very capable remote.

A great alternative for OLED (no thanks, don’t need burn in problems) at a very reasonable price. Giving it 5 stars over all and very satisfied.

*edit – Apple has finally update the Apple TV 4K. We are no longer using any of the built in Android TV apps. A few months in and I have no complaints at all, the points in my original review still stand on solid ground..

Don’t get me wrong, I still love my Sharp and I’m not getting rid of it, just moved it to another room because I’m preparing myself for the upcoming next-gen console releases within the next few months. my 1080p was great for my PS4 pro, but I knew I would need a 4K TV for the new PS5.
I’ll have to admit, I had a really hard time deciding which TV to buy because I was torn between having a smaller sized OLED screen or a larger sized LED. I set my budget at $2K and I started researching and reading reviews on many different models. The OLED TVs generally have a much better picture, but cost more. I ultimately decided that I would sacrifice a little bit of picture quality for a lot of size. This 86″ monster does not disappoint in the size department.
Packaging:
Reading the other reviews, I was fully prepared to receive a damaged unit and was ready to experience the inconvenience of returning the broken TV and waiting for another one to arrive. But, to my surprise, I got a good one on the first try. The box did have some minor damage, but there is a lot of foam between the TV and the box, so mine was undamaged. You will definitely need at least one other person to help you get this thing out of the box and onto it’s new table or wall. I decided to install the included legs and set my unit on an 8ft table that I specifically built for this television. Note that if you plan to install the legs, I found that it’s helpful to remove the outer cardboard box, then remove the foam that surrounds the TV. Now arrange the foam on the floor right in front of the screen of the TV and get someone to help you gently lay the TV down on the floor (screen side down). At this point, it’s super easy to remove the bottom foam and install the legs. It’s impossible for one person to get the legs installed and to put this TV onto a table without some help. I actually received mine around noon and had to sit there staring at a giant box for like 5 hours until my wife got home from work because there was nobody else at home to help me.
Picture quality:
Again, I’m not a trained professional or anything, but I can appreciate nice things. This TV has a great picture for my needs. I do need to say that I have noticed that the image does tend to blur when there is a fast-moving scene. I turned off the”trumotion” setting (on by default) and I didn’t really notice much difference. I haven’t really messed with any of the other picture settings because I think it looks pretty good out of the box, aside from the motion blur (which is really only a minor annoyance and not really a deal-breaker). If anyone has recommendations for an even better picture, please let me know and I’ll be happy to give it a try, but like I said, I’m not disappointed with the factory settings.
Sound:
OK so I’m not knocking any stars here, but I think it’s worth noting that the sound quality leaves something to be desired. I do understand that it must be very difficult to produce a rich, quality sound from tiny speakers in a super-thin TV, but my old 70″ Sharp sounds much better than this 86″ LG. Normal dialogue sounds OK but music doesn’t sound very good. Any time there’s a bass note or any lower frequency sound, it almost sounds like the speaker is bottoming-out. I didn’t bother adjusting the equalizer settings because I’m planning to purchase a surround sound system in the near future, so I won’t need to worry about the internal speakers anymore. I doubt the equalizer would make much of a difference anyway since the speakers are so tiny. Besides, the sound quality isn’t really why you’re considering this TV in the first place, is it? And I’d be willing to bet that most of us who can afford to drop 2 grand on an 86″ TV can also afford to buy some external speakers, even if it’s just a soundbar.
The Magic Remote:
I like this remote. It has a good weight to it and it feels good in my hand. The shape of it makes it easy to feel the correct way to hold it, so if you reach for it in a dark room, you won’t hold it upside down and accidentally hit the wrong button. I kinda wish the buttons would illuminate, but I’m sure I’ll have the button placement memorized in no time. The pointer feature is nice and I think it saves time when logging into an account like Netflix or Disney+, or even just navigating the on-screen menu. The only dedicated app buttons are for Netflix and Prime Video, but just a quick press of the home button will bring up the rest of your apps quickly.
Overview:
This might not be the absolute best TV on the market today, but if you’re looking for a larger-than-normal, ultra hi-def, 4K smart TV that has a pretty good picture for under $2K, then this is the one for you. The few minor annoyances that I mentioned above are easily forgotten when immersed in a movie or game on this giant screen. I would definitely recommend this TV to anyone who has taken the time to read this review..
