Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. People say this works for 30 days or longer, but the package says, “For best results, change every 100 hours”. What is the real story?

That’s what it said on the package of mosquito attractant that came with my Flowtron bug zapper, but these refills last much longer (4.5x longer or 450 hours). They are not the same as the cartridges that are included with the zapper.

2. How do you install this? Does it work in any light?

I just purchased a 6-pkof thee with a new Dynatrap 3/4 acra bug trap. where shall I install and how do I install this on my Dynatrap for best results?
Thanks !!!

3. how often do you change it

About every 30 days but sometimes I let it go longer. Depends on it I am getting a good amount of insects.

4. I have some unopened octenol cartridges from last year, are they still good? what is the unopened shelf life?

Just doing some simple math here. One of these lasts for about 3 months in use (1/4 of a year). This means that you would use about 4 in a year (Less if you experience winter). They sell these in 6 packs, and they are only good for a year unopened. Doesn’t this mean you’re throwing 2 or more of these away every year? Scratching my head over here.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Where do I find replacement glue pads?

I used one of the replacement glue pads as a template on basic yellow sticky traps. Two discs can be cut from one sheet, and has the advantage of being double sided. Seemed to work just as well. MUCH less expensive and more readily available than the Katchy glue boards.

Please understand that my problem was with fungus gnats. If you problem is with some other type of insect, your milage may vary.

2. Does it comes with some glued pads? Or do I have to buy some right away?

Thank you for the question!

Our trap comes with 4 glue boards 🙂 There is no need to buy extra ones right away.

Sincerely,
Sandra
Support Manager

3. How do i get a power cable i just got mine and the power cable is missing

If you bought it new, call the seller and tell them to send you a replacement.

4. Is this katchy the same as the other one in compared items? this one here has 4.5 stars, the other 4 stars.

Thank you for the question! 🙂

Starting from the end of June, this trap (which has less reviews) will be a sensor trap. This means that it will have a sensor that detects if it is morning or night time and turns the trap off or on itself.

As of right now, both the traps serve the same purpose, however, the inside design for this trap is a little different.

Sincerely,
Sandra

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Snow says: “This thing works. I have the unfortunate problem of living in an area where there are a lot of mosquitos. I bought this because there is a cloud of mosquitos outside my door every morning and some of them seem to make their way inside my apartment whenever I open the door. So I really bought this trap out of desperation. I had tried pretty much every (unsuccessful) way to get rid of mosquitos that I could find online, but eventually decided to try this trap. The mosquitos fly toward the UV light and get sucked into the trap from the
fan. Once they’re in, they get stuck on the sticky trap part. I love it and am so glad I bought this!

I apologize for the grossness of the picture… the trap works, as you can see. The picture is after about a week and a half of being inside my apartment (yuck, I know)..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. How are the bulbs to be installed?

Turn the unit off, unplug and allow unit a minute to cool. Use the included screwdriver to remove the screws on the plastic cover on both ends of the bulbs. Remove the clear plastic cover by squeezing the tabs and pulling downward. Repeat this process on the other side of the bulbs. Turn bulb counter clockwise and pull straight down. Remove both bulbs. Insert new bulb into the socket, twist clockwise until secure.plug the unit in and turn it on to test that the bulbs are now working. If they do not come on, unplug the unit and remove the bulbs and try to re-seat them again. If the bulbs come on, then re-attach the bulb cover.

2. Does it attract and control sand chats….like we have along the salt water marshlands in SE Georgia??

It is amazing but we live in the Augusta area so I can not answer about Sand Nats.however it work on so many flying pest here I would say try itit work well for us for over 2 years.

3. Does this kill off japanese beetles from on mu rose bushes???

This trap can catch a wide variety of insects, including beetles. If Japanese beetles are near enough to the trap, they will be able to be pulled inside.

4. How do I get replacement bulbs? I bought this 5 weeks ago and the bulb already burned out

They’re out here on Amazon, just search on the model number of the unit. They run about $15. To give you encouragement, I’ve had mine all summer running 24/7 and haven’t had to replace a bulb.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

KimberlyBR says: “Very, very pleased with this device! We live surrounded by dense woods and mosquitos are really bad. There are so many “wanna-bees” that are either junk, or “snake oil”. We certainly didn’t want a pile of “zapped” bugs on our deck, or to have to listen to it work. And we really didn’t want the massive expense, repeated treatments, and the exposure to chemicals. This device has done wonders to make our one acre back yard nearly mosquito free. We couldn’t believe it. It is exceptionally quiet, just the hum of a fan, and doesn’t detract from listening to wildlife. It
has been outside in intense heat, and pretty good thunderstorms and rain without issue. It is definitely solidly built. The only suggestion I would make to a future purchaser would be not to locate it near flowers that attract bees. It will sadly, also capture bees. The photo that I show the full basket is about four weeks (I hadn’t gotten to empty it, I know, bad user) worth of bugs it captured..

8. DynaTrap DT2000XL Extra-Large Insect Trap 2 UV Bulbs, 1 Acre, Black

Style:Black | Pattern Name:Insect Trap The DynaTrap XL Mosquito and Insect Trap is the same trap you’ve come to depend upon with more insect-attracting power and extended coverage. Each trap comes with two UV bulbs that provide a powerful lure to flying insects while the extra-large size is capable of trapping more insects than ever before. The size of the trap isn’t the only extra-large update made as these traps now provide protection for up to 1 acre of your property.

The DynaTrap XL Mosquito and Insect Trap was designed to be simple to use. First, a UV fluorescent bulb generates a warm light, attracting insects. Then a second lure, an exclusive Ti02 titanium dioxide-coated surface, produces CO2 that’s irresistible to mosquitoes. Third, a powerful yet whisper-quiet vacuum fan sucks insects into the retaining cage where they dehydrate and die.

  • Extra-large size with 2 UV bulbs designed to catch even more insects
  • Powerful, whisper-quiet fan traps insects without zapping or buzzing
  • Extended coverage up to 1 acre; durable all-weather insect trap for use indoors and outdoors; plugs into standard 110-volt outlet
  • Power source type: Corded Electric
Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Can it be left in the rain, how often do the mosquito cartriges need changing

Yes it can be used in the rain. By themselves they don’t really catch mosquitos. To catch those blood suckers, you’re going to need to buy mosquito bait (what type depends on where you live – Lurex for those up north) – Each bait trap basically lasts for 5-6 weeks. Just open the bait and toss it in the trap.

2. Does this trap kill miges

This is not a zap trap. It has a low purple light and a weak fan to suck the insects in. It is a waste of money.

3. We have an irrigation system Willbeing sprayed by this sometimes daily hurt the unit?

Mine was also in the path of my irrigation system, and it did not seem to affect it. (It worked the whole year). However, I took it inside for a few winter months. When I took it back out. the unit no longer worked. I don’t believe that had anything to do with the sprinklers.

4. Does anyone have any experience using this in a horse barn?

I have one hanging under a closed-in over hang area outside of the tack room. Horses weren’t sure what to make of it at first but they are fine now — and a lot happier without all the bugs. Less stomping, tail swishing.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Adam says: “This works very well. I live in the worst area I’ve ever been in (including deep woods camping camping) in terms of summer biting insects. I bought the land during the winter so didn’t know how bad it would be – lesson learned. I bought this to try to get some relief from the constand deluge of hungry mouths every June-August. It totally works. A few things you should know though: 1. This needs to run sort of constantly for a week or so to really clean the area out of everything. During that time you really can’t turn it off
This works very well. A few things you should know though:
1. This needs to run sort of constantly for a week or so to really clean the area out of everything. During that time you really can’t turn it off without releasing all the caught insects from the trap below. The flow of air from the fan is the only thing keeping them from escaping – the spring loaded doors do not work – at least not completely – to keep the insects in. The insects are essentially killed by dehydration – which is cruel… but after a decade of being eaten alive, I’m open to a little cruelty to get some of my yard back. If you DO want to turn the unit off, you can fill a water sprayer with water and spray the lower cage with water to immobilize everything inside giving them wet wings. Then you can pop the trap off and crush the inhabitants… this might also be more humane that allowing them to die slowly anyhow. But if you do turn it off with live insects inside, they WILL fly away – at least the small ones, which are generally the ones you actually wanted to catch.
2. This WILL catch all sorts of moths, little ones, medium ones, big beautiful luna moths… If you have a problem with that, this unit will be an issue for you. At night, the moths are attracted to the UV light like moths to… a UV light. They’ll fly in and you’ll dehydrate them to death in droves. The best solution that I’ve been able to come up with to get around this is to put some wire lath around the top to prevent entry to larger moths. I did this and it kept the big ones from being sucked in, but the small ones still of the way of the mosquitoes.

Aside from those two notes, I highly recommend this device if you want to clear out a large area of biting insects. I hate junk products – this is NOT a junk product..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. How long will the photo catalyst keep producing C02?

Hi CARROLL V Myers.
The trap will continue producing CO2 as long as the bulbs are replaced every 4 months of continuous use, as this is the time frame the bulb will produce the UV properties.

2. what happens if my unit is on after I change the bulbs and plug it in?

It should be on if the bulbs work and it’s plugged in. You can always unplug it or put it on a timer. There is a switch under the top that may work also.

3. How is powered?

Hello from DynaTrap!

The DynaTrap is powered by AC power outlets. Each trap has a 7-10ft cord that will require an extension cord to reach optimal places in your yard. The BEST place to put your trap is 20-40ft from where you spend the most time outdoors, as it does ATTRACT bugs. So you wouldn’t want it where you plan on hanging out!

4. We have an elevated deck, would it be ok to hang the unit below our deck at the opposite end of where we generally sit at night?

Yes you could hang it.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Does it work on Mosguitoes?

No. Mosguitoes are the powered up version of mosquitos so they are too smart for this. They actually cook food on it

2. Dynatrap reps – does this produce co2 if the bulb is removed ? light is attracting moths at night – i am after asian tiger mosquitos (daytime).

In order for it to produce CO2 there would either have to be a source of CO2 or some other source of carbon that could be turned into CO2, such as a bottle of propane gas. Titanium oxide, which one answerer mentioned, can with light break down CO2 into CO, into carbon monoxide— with which gas mosquitoes are disinterested. So no, this thing doesn’t particularly attract mosquitoes.

3. Does the trap make the loud zapping noise?

No zapping noise. There is no high voltage grid.

4. Does it attract flies during daylight? What lures them to the trap?

it attract flies NEVER!
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Mr. Techie Mike says: “These are great, the only part that is gross it the clean up. I’ve seen a noticeable difference in the number of mosquitos. I live in a heavily wooded, tree, shade/bush area (see pictures). My biggest recommendation is to make sure you get rid of any sitting water that reduced our problem by 50%. I had to drill small holes in our roof gutters as they weren’t draining completely. Another issue I think some people who complain about it not working need to read how to effectively deploy these. I put this device in areas where I get flocked by mosquitos
(it’s near our pool equipment, prior to deployment I’d get 10-15 on me within seconds) but about 20ft away from where we will be. Most mosquitos don’t travel more than 25-40ft from where they hatch. The instructions say to put this 20ft from where you will be, so I put this in vegetation that sits near the pool where I think many of the mosquitos come from. I then went on the other side of the pool and put another Dynatrap about 20ft from where we would be. I have a huge yard (1.5acres) so I figured having two would be enough. We get a TON of bugs, fyi. The mosquito lifecycle is around 6weeks so for maximum effectiveness this needs to run for 5 more weeks but I’d say I’m happy with my purchase. Remember that these are only as effective as how you deploy them! Also make sure the area doesn’t have a competing light source. So this is in an extremely dark area at night with no other light so it is a huge beacon. Good luck..

DynaTrap DT1775 Insct Trap AtraktaGlo Light, 1 Acre, Blck

  • 3-way protection against mosquitoes and other flying insects
  • Ultra-bright AtraktaGlo light and light-enhancing diffuser attracts insects
  • Whisper-quiet fan attracts insects without zapping or buzzing
  • Extended coverage up to 1 acre; durable all-weather insect trap for use indoors and outdoors; plugs into standard 110-volt outlet

  • Needs at least 3 weeks to trap enough mosquitoes to make an impact, and 6 weeks to break the breeding cycle
  • Power source type: Corded Electric
Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Dt1775 or dt2000xl, which is better for a bigger yard and kills more mosquitoes

I don’t know about the DT200XL, but it should say something in the item description about the size of property it will protect. The DT1775 covers an acre. We live in the a city, so we don’t have an acre, but our back yard is heavily shaded, and we don’t mind protecting our neighbors yards too. We have noticed a significant drop in thenumber of mosquitos. The unit is in our backyard, but we’ve noticed a drop in mosquitos even on our front porch. Before getting this, we really could not sit outside even in the afternoon because of the shaded yard. At dusk, it was unbearable unless you didn’t mind getting eaten alive. So glad we got thiscan’t recommend it highly enough!

2. What is the Replacement cartridge for this unit? I see replacement bulbs, but not for the Ti02 titanium dioxide-coated surfaces.

Good question. My understanding is that the unit (the machine) surface (not the UV light bulb) is permanently coated with the Ti02 titanium dioxide which produces CO2 (a mosquito attractant) when it reacts to the UV light from the bulb. The UV light is, itself, a mosquito attractant. I place a small octenol CO2 cartridge on the grate just under the light to enhance performance.
The light lasts about 3000 hours or 4 months before it needs to be replaced. The machine needs to be run continuously in order to effectively disrupt the mosquito breeding cycle. Dynatrap has an easy “How to replace the bulb” video on their website.Other than the octenol cartridge that I purchase from the local home improvement store and place on the DT1775, there are no other cartridges involved.
Height and location of the Dynatrap unit must be about 4 to 5 feet high from the ground (mosquito flying altitude) and near plants and bushes where mosquitos like to hide.

3. Everyone is talking how well it catches bugs, big question does it catch mosquitos ?

No.It catches beetles, moths, and other bugs, but NOT mosquitoes.Perhaps mosquitoes in Texas are more discriminating than elsewhere, or smarter, or something.

However, if you want to catch junebugs to feed to chickens, this thing works wonders.

But don’t buy it for ridding mosquitoes from your yard.

4. Does this have an external switching power supply? If yes, what voltages are supported?

No external power supply. Unit runs on standard us 110 volt
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

T. C. says: “Summary: Works great, fan noisy initially, no issues with the bulb like in other models, weather proof, emptying the retaining cage can be messy, a bit expensive. Over the past few years, we’ve been using various bug zappers (Flowtron, Micro Tech, etc.) to try and clear out the mosquitos in our backyard. While they varied in efficiency, none of them lasted more than a year before breaking down and none were powerful enough to clear out our whole backyard (always had to use at least two zappers). This year, with the warmer and wetter winter/spring, we’ve been swamped with mosquitos here

This year, with the warmer and wetter winter/spring, we’ve been swamped with mosquitos here in North Texas. Rather than purchasing another bug zapper, and not wanting to use a propane powered trapper, I decided to give the Dynatrap DT1775 a try. So far, I’m very happy with my purchase.

When I initially put the Dynatrap up I was a bit worried due to the fan being quite noisy (could be heard from 60 feet+ away). My initial reaction was to send the trap back, but slept on it, and by the next day the fan seemed to have settled in as it was much quieter (still can be heard from 20-30 feet or so if you listen closely, but is much quieter so doesn’t really bother me), so I decided to keep it.

I put the Dynatrap up in the far corner of our half acre backyard, and after a few days there were already noticeably less mosquitos flying around. After a few weeks, there’s almost none. So, in that regard I’m very happy with the trap. I’m also happy with it being able to withstand weather, we’ve had quite a few storms recently with heavy rainfall, hail, wind, etc., but the trap withstood that fine. Some people have been complaining about the bulbs & fans dying after a few days in some of the other Dynatrap models, but after running ours 24/7 for a month now, everything is still working fine.

The only minor downside with the Dynatrap is emptying the retaining cage. Since the mosquitos, moths, bugs, etc die by dehydration, you’re always going to have some live ones when you empty it. The retaining cage is also a bit difficult to remove (need to rotate it hard), so dropped it first time emptying it creating a mess. I’ve read that some people dunk the cage in a bucket filled with soap-water (or spray it with bug spray) before removing it to kill any live bugs (obviously turn off the trap first), going to try that next time and rotate it more carefully. Will also have someone hold a bag under it in case I drop it again.

The DT1775 was a bit expensive, but considering I was using two traps before, and it’s effectiveness so far, I think it was worth it. Will update the review in a few months.

Update: Sorry for the bad video… looks great on my mac, but the quality diminishes after uploading (tried several times). The Dynatrap still works perfectly and has survived heavy rain, hail, severe storms, heavy wind gusts (Texas spring weather) and power outages..

16. DynaTrap ¼ Acre Outdoor Mosquito and Insect Trap – Black

Eliminate flying insects, such as mosquitoes, biting flies, wasps, Asian beetles, or stink bugs, with the DynaTrap Outdoor Mosquito and Insect Trap. The lightweight, portable, and powerful trap is designed to provide protection up to ¼ of an acre. With an easy-to-use design, you simply plug the trap in to a standard 120v outlet and let it do the work for you. Not one, not two, but three layers of protection keep flying pest insects away from you and your family.

The DynaTrap Outdoor Mosquito and Insect Trap is an ideal choice for homes with kids and pets. This trap has an integrated hook that allows for easy hanging, if a table top location is not available.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. How are you supposed to mount it 20-40 feet away from traffic areas if the cord is only 8 feet? Is it safe to plug into an extension cord?

We have ours plugged in to an extension cord. I’ll be honest though we haven’t noticed that it kills mosquitoes so if that is your main purpose I would look for another device. It does kill lots of their insects though, just not mosquitoes.

2. What bait would go in this trap? I’m noticing 2 different kinds of bait when I try to purchase some but neither state this model number as an option.

no bait. the trap works all by itself. (uv light)

3. Does it really take 1 to 2 months to ship?

No way! I received my 1/4 acre unit in less than one week, same for my indoor unit.

4. Bulb replacement?

According to my instructions the bulb lasts for 3000 hours and is replaceable. The lamp lasts for 20,000 hours and is not replaceable.

I’ve also tried many other methods in the past including those purple lights and citronella oil. This actually caught mosquitos. I have purchased the “lurex3” mosquito attractant and will rig it under the dynatrap to lure more mosquitos in. Overall satisfied but there is 1 better thing…

Electric fly swatter. In the 17 hours of the dynatrap running… I got 11 mosquitos. I electrically swatted 15 mosquitos in about 30 seconds. There is no better satisfaction than hearing dozens of mosquitos getting zapped. You are a god with that thing..

Finally bought this to try out as a desperate measure.

Been using it for 3 nights and I can confirm that this WORKS indoors!!! We’ve gotten 5 mosquitoes trapped. Here are some thoughts regarding indoor use:
– Have realistic expectations: given the choice between an odiferous human and the dynatrap in the same vicinity, mosquitos will always pick you. (That’s why I still recommend the electric zapper rackets for immediate offense.) But when no one is around, mosquitos will be lured to this trap. So consider…
– The Location – pick a place where mosquitoes tend to show up (for us it is in the living area near the back door), pick a place and place the trap as far away from sleeping areas as possible.
– Timing: I leave it on all the time and I check the trap a few times a day out of curiosity. Seems to be be most effective at night. 1st night there were 2 caught. None on the second, and 3 on the 3rd night. And so far they were caught only at night (while we are sleeping), none during the day somehow. Likely because of feeding time and there is no one around, so the faint CO2 emitted by this trap is the most “alluring” in that area.
– Finally, Don’t skimp on the size. I got the 1/4 acre outdoor version instead of the 300 ft indoor one. I don’t have the small one, but to me it’s worth a little bit more to get the larger size and attract from all over the house..
