Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. HOW DEEP IS THE SKILLET?

The skillet is 3 inches deep plus the lid is rounded so you have 4-5 inches to play with. Makes the best fried chicken which is a delicacy here. We don’t fry food regularly. Awesome skillet.

2. Can you fry one pound of bacon at once?

I have been frying bacon a pound at a time in Presto rectangular skillets for about 40 years, but I start with about 1/2 inch of saved and filtered drippings. That way I am frying in a pool of oil (like frying chicken) and the pan’s hot spots get evened out.But I use a much lower temp than chicken – like 275-325.The lower temp takes longer but the bacon actually comes out crisper overall -not just on the edges (longer frying time boils out more water).Higher temperature means you may have to “dodge the pops” like when frying chicken.

3. IS it made in USA

No, it isn’t. Not much made in the USA these days. Sorry.
But, I do like this pan. Bought it when we were waiting for our new stove, and it was very useful. Will keep it.

4. Does this item really weigh 20 pounds?

The 06852 skillet weighs about 8.7 pounds. If you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to contact Presto Customer Service Department M-F 8-4:15 CT by phone at 1-800-877-0441 or visit our website at www.gopresto.com. You may also e-mail (contact1@gopresto.com) We are here to help.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. how deep are the sides? or the depth of the skillet?

The sides are about 21/2″ to 3 ” deep. It has a pour spout on one corner which makes the cover not seal. I have also contacted the company because after 3 uses the non stick is coming off. I would not buy this product again.

2. What is the maximum temperature the unit goes up to?

Sorry I’m late, don’t check this email very often. The dial goes to 400, but if you go past that mark, maybe 425. This is a good skillet. I’ve put several other brands in my yard sales as white elephants, but this one is a keeper.

3. On the box it says you can bake in it. Has anyone tried a lasagna or cornbread or something that requires baking?

I bake in it all the timeto use in the oven, you use it without the handle/base. I often make a large egg bake with 1 dozen eggs, 1 lb sausage and greens to eat throughout the week.Plugged in, I fry the sausage, then wilt a huge pile of greens while I crack the eggs.Pour the eggs/milk over it, top it with uncooked mushrooms, maybe cheese.Unplug and put the base straight into the oven.ONE PAN!
I LOVE this and another friend of mine uses it for almost everything she cooksit makes a great morning griddle, and a great 1 pan dinner meal.(She just sets it on the stove without any of the handle/base parts.Actually, that’s how I cook in it as wellI set the base on my glass topped stove and cook in it like thatwithout the handles and base.) Then, it can go straight into the oven as well. Both of us are no-nonsense people. ( If I were cooking with a child, I would use the base/handle assembly..)
I’ve never done it, but it would be PERFECT for a huge batch of lasagne.Plenty deep, and you could roast a turkey in it, as well.
My number one top use for this is making ketogenic low-carb shirataki noodle dishes. The large flat surface makes short work of drying out the noodles, which is step #1 for a good shirataki noodle dish. Then you stir fry your meat and aromatics directly in the noodles, add healthy fats and add shredded cabbage and misc veggies, bone broth, etc.ONE POT!I make four bags of shirataki Miracle noodles plus all the other add-ins for four large noodle bowl servings. Technically, I could probably do an 8 bag noodle dish in this pan, but that’s more than I need.

4. how deep is it

Hi Mary M. I LOVE this appliance. My Mom and I fry in it and just love it. It’s pretty deep, much deeper than it looks here – I measured from the bottom of the inside to the top of the inside and it’s 2 and 3/4 inches – almost 3 inches deep. Plenty of depth. L, Mia

2. SUPER easy to clean. Just unsnap the base and the whole skillet goes into the dishwater.
3. Has a pour spout on one side. You can rest a spoon there also. FAB!
4. Nice and deep. Holds a large capacity of whatever you are preparing. You can cook several different things at the same time.
5. The base folds up and stores inside the pan. Put in the power cord, flip the lid upside down and it does not take up much cabinet space at all.

I have had this for about 6 weeks and have used it at least 30 times. So far, so fantastic..

7. Presto 06850 16-inch Electric Skillet

Size:16″ Roasts, fries, grills, stews, bakes, and makes one-dish meals. Nonstick finish, inside and out. EverNu cover won’t dent, warp, peel, or bend. 120 volts, 60 Hz only

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. How do you bake?

You have 2 options – preheat to 350, grease the bottom of the pan & its sides, put what you want to bake in the pan, cover it & wait.I find this over browns the bottom of what ever you are baking.Instead, I developed my own method years ago for baking bread, cakes, cookies & so on.I arrange canning rims over the bottom of the pan.Cover the pan & preheat to the baking temp.Once heated, place the pan of what you are baking on top of the canning rims.Replace the cover & wait. The timing is similar to using an electric oven – a bit slower but not much.An 8×8 pan fits nicely inside. So do 8×4 loaf pans – great for making bread.Be advised to slightly undersize your loaves or they can rise too high & stick to the inside of the lid.I also found that you can make reusable baking sheets by wrapping double wall corrugated cardboard with a double layer of heavy duty aluminum foil.(Don’t try to wash these, just wipe clean with a slightly soap cloth or sponge, then go over a second time with a clean damp cloth.)These are especially nice if you by chance burn something on them or melt cheese all over the surface. No troublesome cleaning at all, jut strip off the damaged layer & apply a fresh layer of foil.:)

I spent close to three months with no functioning stove or oven, but I did have 2 electric fry pans.Once I got the hang of my technique, I toyed with going without the stove.I found that I could place a small (1 quart) sauce pan in my older electric fry pan that did not have a non stick coating and use it as a gentle heat source for warming leftovers or melting delicate foods such as cheeses or chocolate.

I hope this gives you, and anyone who reads this, so useful ideas.

2. Do the legs remove?

yes the legs are removable. The legs and lifting handle are formed as one unit for each side of the unit and in the centre of each leg is a screw that attaches into the metal base. So two legs and a handle all are removable with two screws and the same holds true for the other side of the unit (i.e. two handles and four legs) The thermostat controller is also removable.

3. Is the temperature setting(300, 350, 400 etc.) fairly accurate? Also, does it come with instructions on how to cook various things?

I’ve found the temperatures to be quite accurate. It functions much like an oven. The heating element cycles on and off to maintain the correct temperature. (Some reviewers have complained that it quits working after a few minutes – my guess is that when it cycled off because it had reached the correct temperature, the reviewer assumed it quit working.) It does come with an instruction manual that gives suggested temperatures for various cooking needs.

4. Does this model have a pouring spout in one corner?

No but it does pour easily out of the corners. I’ve had one for years and I have no problems. . These types of pans are great for so many different types of cooking foods.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Susan Fulton says: “I first tested out cooking a pound of bacon to check heat distribution. It passed with flying colors. The temperature control worked accurately well. I started the bacon at 350, lowered to 300; flipped and lowered to 250 then 200 – perfect bacon.

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Wes says: “I’ve used 4 Presto skillets for over 15 years and loved it. The skillets of old had a Teflon coating which lasted a considerable time, it was used 5+ times per week. But nothing lasts forever. That’s when I searched for another and saw the ceramic coated version. I was already swearing by the ceramic waffle iron which is absolutely the best, so decided to try this too. Nothing at all sticks to the ceramic. The skillet holds the heat better and distributes it better as well. And it cooks the best bacon ever!

3. The temperature knob gets extremely hot during cooking. Is this normal?

I find that the temperature knob gets quite warm also, but doesn’t seem to do any harm.

4. Does it simmer well?

This is a great appliance and it controls temperature in a wide range of degrees. You can certainly simmer foods in it.As with every electric skillet, you will notice that the element heats up to reach temperature then turns off until it has to regain the set temperature. This is true even of electric ovens so don’t be put off by that because overall, the food will cook evenly.I do casseroles, keep food warm and even fry in mine.

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Ann Heacock says: “We are very rough on our kitchen appliances, but the Presto Skillet is holding up nicely! We use ours for so many different dishes. It heats evenly, washes up nicely and is a bit more shallow overall so stores well. The shallowness is not in the actual cooking area, but in the legs. They are lower to the counter, so a nice compact piece.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Does the temp control use temp numbers or just low, med, high?

I have two of these and both have degree settings and on both, setting it on the ‘5’ in 275° will give a constant average temp of 205° without ever reaching 212° the perfect answer to all day simmering for a two person entree, or two meals for one. I love this thing.
It’s not great for frying, though, as its heat is concentrated in a circular pattern following the heating element.
It is 800 watts, but one must remember that that only applies when it calls for heat. In my case that is only about 10% of the time, which puts a 10 hour simmer at about 0.8 KWH @ 124VAC (or 0.4 KWH on your utilie’s meter). A very cheap date

2. – What are the dimensions of this item?

The pan itself is 8×8. With the handles you can add about 3 inches. 2 inches deep. I love this little pan. It works great for cooking for 2 people. I have used it for everything from scrambled eggs to small pot roast. Great for all.

3. Is the cooking surface flat or are there ridges? (Would it be good for things like eggs, fried potatoes, etc?)

Hi, There are certainly no ridges . Surface is flat and smooth. Absolutely great for eggs, frying potatoes or tomatoes. Can also cook bacon if the length is cut in half to fit the pan. When cooking a bacon and egg meal with potato and tomato I use botha large panand the Nesco skillet (for fried potatoes) so the meal is done more quickly. Also love it for grilled sandwiches. Can do 2 at once with a squeeze

4. Does this skillet have automatic shut off? I live in a retirement community that has some restrictions on what appliiances are allowed

This skillet does not have an automatic shut off.

I needed an electric skillet that is lightweight and easy to manage. This one got the best reviews so it was the one I selected. I have owned many Nesco products over the years and this was a plus.

It arrived in perfect condition. I inspected the interior coating closely under light and there were no flaws, bubbles, damage. The entire coating was smooth to the touch. I cleaned it and oiled it prior to using it.

The problem with many electric skillets is uneven heating. They get hot zones closer to the heating element plug area. As it heated, I used a scanning thermometer to check temps. As expected, the area near the plug heated first but by the time the pan came to expected temps, the temps were fairly even all over the pan. For a smaller pan, I expected this to happen and was pleased.

The egg test: I wiped the interior with vegetable oil them removed the majority with a soft paper towel. On low-med heat, fried eggs cooked exceptionally well. No sticking whatsoever. I was also able to make pan toast easily.

This pan is great for an elderly parent. It isn’t too heavy nor too big to clean. Most of the time, it can be wiped clean with a soft paper towel. The glass lid is also easy to manage/clean. In fact, using two of these instead on one heavier unit seems to be the best plan. A countertop oven has also been a great help.

So far, this pan has worked great..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Is the pan removable for cleaning? How easy is it to clean?

No, the pan is not removable. After each use, you can clean the DuraCeramic™ Skillet by wiping down the cooking surface with a damp cloth and drying it thoroughly. The skillet is not dishwasher safe, you may wash it with hot soapy water. Do not immerse the temperature control probe or the skillet in liquids.

2. Can I put a little coconut oil in it in the beginning so nothing sticks?

This electric skillet is designed with unique, innovative DuraCeramic™ non-stick ceramic coating. It is not necessary to add oil or cooking spray to the surface before cooking.

3. How deep is this pan? Would you be able to fry chicken or pork chops in it?

It’s 2.5″ deep. If you’re talking deep frying, no. Get yourself a deep fryer for that. But for frying chicken in an inch or so of oil, etc, yes. People cook fried chicken in frying pans all the time, and this one is no exception. I have fried and stir fried, and pan fried in mine. It does great pork chops and steaks. I do a cross between pan-fried and oven baked chicken in it. They all turn out very successfully, moist and tender, but properly cooked, and it can do a very nice crispy exterior, if you want it. I do my ‘world famous’ fried squash parmesan, and it’s the best I have ever tasted. In other words, it’s very versatile, and can turn out pretty much whatever you want. I love mine.(it’s easy to clean, too) ENJOY

4. Is it OK for frying foods such as fish and chicken?

Hi, you can fry fish and chicken but not a deep fry. I use a small amount of oilwith the Oster on a medium heat and brown each side then reduce the heat, cover and cook until done. My one word of caution is the middle does get quite hot because of the element so watch the food close to the center. Good luck and Happy cooking! This is a fun little cooker and you will be so surprised how may meals it will provide ! So fry away ! Remember . Easy with the oil and you will be fine. Have a great day!

2) It heats up really hot really fast, then kinda cools and maintains for a while. This is great for cooking something really fast, not as nice for keeping something warm for extended periods of time (couple hours).

3) You don’t need to cook things as high as you do on regular skillets. When I had a regular stainless steel skillet, I mostly cooked things around 300-350 degrees. In this pan, I normally use 220-270 degrees. Just FYI.

I am very pleased with this pan, and would definitely buy other products by this brand..
