2. How to fix cracked spot on furniture. i purchased chalk paint from here. but after third coat it start cracking some spots.

Sometimes a spot of old finish can cause cracking. Sand area down lightly and spray a bit of KILZ let dry then repaint the area that was cracking.

3. I have alot of cobalt blue glass in my house what color blue would match the best?

I would use black but I’m more into darker colors. Black and cobalt with white accents would be beautiful.

More blue

1. What is the bristle material?

It is a man made material like Nylon which makes the brush able to handle water or oil based paints and stains. The only problem with these brushes is that they have less than half the bristles of a $12.00 brush. They do not hold much paint so plan to dip the brush three times more than you would using a better brush.

2. Hi are these brushes stiff tip?

Gotta say these brushes super for the money tip if firm enough to get in nooks and crevices . i have used oil and latex pai ts with them work great

3. What is the bristle material?

2. How much paint kitchen cabinets

Hi there. It depends on if you are using a brush or paint sprayer and how big your kitchen is. I would probably start with 5 if your kitchen is smaller and you are using a brush. 6-8 if you have a large kitchen and will be using a paint sprayer. Call if you have any other questions for our customer service 801-613-8322

3. Can i write on this paint with chalk?

Hi “chalk paint” is very different than chalk board paint. This paint is called “chalk paint” because when you distress it, it feels chalky. You do not need to sand, prime or strip your furniture before you paint with this furniture paint. It will adhere to most any surface.Chalk Board paint is what you would want to use to write on with chalk. If you have any further questions, please call 801-613-8322. We are happy to help

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Teresa Payne says: “Imagine this….You’ve received the paint, but realized you need a topcoat. You run to Lowes in hopes that the paint shop can give you some advise in the midst of this Coronavirus mess. The one guy that knows anything just left for lunch. You finally pull out the paint and in big bold letters is the phone number for customer service. At this point you are thinking no one is going to answer. You take the chance and call anyway just to realize you can’t get service and you’ll have to run outside to call, but you have no other choice.
On the second ring a friendly voice comes on the phone and you start spilling your dilemma, needing a recommendation for a top coat. Within 60 seconds she has given you two choices and her husband is texting me a picture of the top coat I should use. NOW THAT IS WHAT I CALL GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. What do you use to clean the finished product? I like to use bleach in the kitchen to clean. Can you use bleach on this? Can you use a scrub sponge?

No, don’t use bleach or a scrub sponge. You can use hydrogen peroxide to kill germs and a soft cloth.

2. Does it scratch easily?

Unfortunately, it does scratch easily. I used this in April 2018 and followed all directions- including the prep which is the most important step. I have taken verygood care of the counter tops- no scrubbing, mild soap to clean, using a cutting board for everything, used a towel or pot holder underneath anything that may potentially damage it. It started to wear off in some places and scratch in August 2018. I’m here looking to see if there is a guarantee for the product. The end result looksfabulous (until it scratches) , so I am trying to find out what my options are. I hate the thought of having to buy another kit because I’ve followed all directions. Hope that this is able to help somebody !

3. A friend of mine said you had to scrub your counters before you can paint them? What do you scrub them with?

Having done the counter in my last house (and now shopping for this to do in my new house!) I would say it depends on what you have now. I had linoleum from the 1940’s in that house and cleaned it with TSP, rinsed super well and then did lightly sand to ensure a clean and highly adhesive surface. It help up PERFECTLY for the year or so I lived there, I used the Bombay Sapphire and it was gorgeous.

4. Ariel, What did you use to apply the Helmsman Spar Urethane? Brush or roller? If roller what type? Thanks.

I used the same roller that came in the kit. Applied two coats sparingly, let them dry completely between coats. It does give a nice texture.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Peter North says: “I bought the Sicilian Sand finish for 15 year old yellow, Formica counter tops. I almost wrapped the counter tops with a rubber adhesive cover, but I’m so glad I tried this first. The entire project took me about 3 days, or 15 hours spread out over 3 days, and I had 2 kids bugging me in between. Make sure to really clean your counter tops before putting this stuff on or else the paint will not stick. Use a razor blade to scrape anything you may have missed and you should be ready to paint. Tip: Dab the entire counter

Make sure to really clean your counter tops before putting this stuff on or else the paint will not stick. Use a razor blade to scrape anything you may have missed and you should be ready to paint.

Tip: Dab the entire counter space with one color before moving onto the next color, don’t smear it or press too hard. Also, don’t get discouraged if you dab too hard or something, because this paint is very forgiving. At one point, I was so pissed I had to stop the job for a half a day. I decided to continue and somehow pulled it off. The key is to “keep on layering,” and the color will eventually turn out the way you intended.

Also, you’re not going to see the actual beauty of your new tops UNTIL the top coat is put on. That’s the key to making your new tops look, feel and shine like real granite. It’s very important to remember this so as to not get unmotivated. I honestly feel as if my counters are new and I simply restored them versus just putting a band-aid on them. They’re so clean and the surface is just awesome. Already got a ton of compliments. Also, did I make any mistakes? Yes. Has anyone else noticed? No. If anyone is looking that closely then I probably wouldn’t invite them into my home anyway. The texture of this paint job tricks your eyes into not seeing any imperfections.

Buy it!

*UPDATE*

2.5 years later and it’s still great. No issues at all..

Majic Paints 8-9400-2, White, Interior/Exterior Satin Paint, RePurpose your Furniture, Cabinets, Glass, Metal, Tile, Wood, 1-Quart

  • Color: White
  • IDEAL FOR DIY PROJECTS: Repurpose furniture, trim, cabinets, doors, or any project you have in in mind
  • SUPERIOR COLOR-RETENTION: Levels to a beautiful smooth satin finish
  • EASY-TO-APPLY: Sticks to any surface without sanding or priming
  • ALL-PURPOSE USE: Perfect for wood, metal, brick, drywall, glass, steel, tile, vinyl, aluminum, most plastics, copper, and masonry
Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. do I need an undercoat for kitchen cabinets like killz adhesion? Thank you

In most cases, no.Majic Diamond Hard RePurpose has excellent adhesion to a wide list of substrates without the need of a primer. The reasons a primer may be recommended are (a) when making a drastic color change, (b) painting over un-sealed surfaces that may result in extractive staining (e.g. over certain woods, water-stains, crayon, etc.), or when painting over surfaces subject to rusting & corrosion (bare ferrous metal, etc.).Surface prep generally requires that the surface be clean, dry and free of any surface contaminants that may inhibit the product’s ability to adhere to the surface. (Hint:Although not necessary for adhesion, a light “scuff-sanding” of glossy, slick surfaces, aids in even greater adhesion to the surface + better hiding & a more uniform application of the finish product).

2. Can I use this paint on time in my shower?

Majic RePurpose is solid acrylic enamel that offers excellent adhesion to a host of surfaces, including properly prepared ceramic tile, plastic shower & tub surrounds, melamine and other difficult substrateshaving said that, RePurpose is NOT recommended for surfaces subject to immersion, submersion or “wet” areas (such as shower stalls, etc.).Frequent exposure to harsh chemicals (e.g. lime & rust-stain removers, grout cleaners, etc.) and strong, or abrasive, “scrubs” may soften, or damage the film.

3. what majic paint would u recommend for bathroom sinks? could this work with top sealer coat? thank u

Hi, and thank you for your inquiry At Majic Paints, we really don’t manufacture anything that we could recommend, or would be suitable for use on a sink. Magic RePurpose is a premium grade acrylic satin enamel, that exhibits exceptional adhesion to a variety of surfaces, and substrates, and provides excellent protection and durability to those surfaces painted with RePurpose. Unfortunately, Diamond Hard RePurpose is not designed for surfaces subject to immersion, or submersion, areas/surfaces designated as “wet” areas.I hope this info is helpful – again, thank you.

4. Have old “euro” cabinets: white melamine front, wood w/ slight grain (real?) elsewhere. Can I use over all to get uniform color?

Diamond Hard RePurpose Satin Enamel is a premium quality, water-borne acrylic coating that demonstrates exceptional adhesion, and durability, to a variety of substrates.RuPurpose is a great choice for melamine cabinet fronts, and also for your cabinet sides (veneer, laminate, finished wood, etc.).The key, of course, is surface preparation – the surface must be clean, dry and free of all dust, dirt, grease, oil, wax & polishes, and other surface contaminants that may inhibit the adhesion and performance of Repurpose.Although not absolutely necessary for adhesion, after cleaning surface I always recommend a slight “scuff-sanding” of melamine, or plastic laminate, with a very fine paper (220 – 350 grit) to create a “profile” for a greater, and faster, mechanical bond to these surfaces.RePurpose dries very quickly, and reaches maximum hardness & adhesion in approximately 7-10 days – during this time, handle painted items gently, and do not subject to cleaning surface for 2 weeks after application.Care & Maintenance:Use only a soft rag or sponge & mild, household detergent for cleaning surfaces painted with RePurpose (recommended Dirtex Powder, Soilax Powder, or other low-sudsing, phosphate-free detergents).Do NOT use abrasive cleanser (Ajax, Comet, Soft Scrub, etc.) as they may damage the acrylic film.Do NOT clean painted surface with “spray-type” cleaners, such as Fantastik, Formula 409. Dirtex Spray, etc.) as these products may contain solvents that soften, or remove, acrylic coatings. There is no need to polish or wax a RePurpose finish as continued applications may soften the finish.

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Ashley Smith says: “Very pleased with the way my project turned out. Total of about 10 hours of work as it took 2 coats, but well worth it. Table looks brand new! I found that using a sponge brush worked best on the chairs and all the smaller areas as well as just better coverage for the first coat. I did though want to keep the wood grain look so i used the round brush for the 2nd coat on the table.

2. Will this color work on a dark brown dresser?

Yes but multiple coats will be needed to do a color change from dark brown to antique white.

Shabby Chic Chalk Furniture Paint is genuine quality made in the UK. Water-based chalk paint with virtually no odour. The paint can be used directly onto Wood (bare or painted), brick, stone, plaster or any suitably primed rigid surface (eg.metal, plastic, ect). Create a distressed look by applying two coats in contrasting colours then sanding / scoring when dry. Paint Preparation: For best results, ensure surface is clean and free from wax or oil. If wax has been used clean the surface thoroughly with white spirit. We recommend that bare wood should be sanded before painting. Application: Stir thoroughly prior to use. The product may be applied by brush or roller. If applying by brush, apply evenly following the grain of the wood. If rolling, use a short nap mohair roller. To create a distressed look apply two coats in contrasting colours. Allow to dry then lightly abrade with moistened sand paper or stainless steel scoring pad – abrade with the grain of the wood. Coverage: up to 12m2 per litre. Coverage may vary depending upon method and rate of application and porosity of surface. Drying Time: Touch dry in 1 hour. Handle after 2 hours. Apply a second coat after 2 hours if necessary. Full hardness after 3 hours. Clean Up: with water. Do not empty into drains or water courses. Some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings.

4. How well will this stick to glass jars?

Yes it will but I’m very disappointed with the accuracy of the color. It was supposed to be red and it’s way too pink.

CJ says: “I usually make my own chalk type paint, but now that I discovered how great Shabby Chic Furniture chalk paint is I don’t think I’ll go back to homemade. It’s so easy to work with to create whatever look you want. I used it on this old piece of furniture and it worked perfectly! It goes on so easy, right consistency but if you want thinner you can add a little water. Highly recommend!

RetiredEE says: “I do a lot of painting around my house, touching up things here and there while sometimes doing some messy priming where “quality” isn’t as big a deal but “expendable” is. For these jobs, I’ve always bought cheap ($0.89) Harbor Freight brushes. They last reasonably long, and when the paint buildup gets too bad, I don’t feel bad about tossing one and replacing with a new one. Problem is that I went down to my local Harbor Freight a couple of weeks ago to buy a dozen or so brushes, but it looks like HF has decided to stop carrying them.

All they have on the shelf now are $2.79 low cost brushes just like you’ll find at Home Depot and Lowes. I.e., I may as well shop at the big box stores for my cheap brush needs.

This sent me looking on Amazon for a cheap Harbor Freight-like paint brush, and these guys are it. I just received my package of 16 2″ brushes for $20 ($1.25/ea) and I am here to tell you that while the brushes aren’t quite as cheap as my old HF standbys, they are identical to them in every way. Bristles, metal band embossment, black plastic handle, size of the handle hole … they are identical. No doubt the HF and Amazon brushes are supplied by the same (cheap) Chinese contractor somewhere across the Pacific. No, they are not quite as cheap as the HF brushes, but am I going to complain about the extra $0.36/brush? Gimme a break.

Sure, they are not high quality. Every now and then a bristle will work its way loose. Just keep an eye open as you paint your primer or whatever, remove the bristle when you see one as you paint, and you’ll be fine. For critical needs, buy expensive brushes. What’s so hard about that?

Bottom line is that I’m very happy to have found an expendable HF replacement brush for a good price. If you accept that these are not $20 brushes and you don’t care, then you will be very happy with them..
