Best oster digital rice cooker – Buying Guide And Recommendation

Below we have reviewed the best oster digital rice cooker. From these products you can choose the product of your choice if you want.

1. Zojirushi NS-ZCC18 10-Cup Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker, 1.8-Liters, Premium White

Size:1.8 Liter Zojirushi NS-ZCC18 10-Cup (Uncooked) Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker and Warmer, Stainless Steel NS-ZCC18 The Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker & Warmer features advanced Fuzzy Logic technology, which allows the rice cooker to ‘think’ for itself and make fine adjustments to temperature and heating time to cook perfect rice every time. The Micom Rice Cooker & Warmer cooks flawless rice. This 10-cup rice cooker and warmer makes 20 cups of cooked rice and includes a variety of cooking functions comprising of white (regular/sushi, softer or harder), mixed rice, porridge, sweet, semi-brown, brown, rinse-free, and quick cooking.

This unit uses a black thick spherical pan with stay cool side handles that provides even heating for better cooking. There is a programmable melody or beep audio indicator to indicate when the cooking cycle has ended. Other highlights include a detachable and washable inner lid, an easy-to-read LCD control panel, and automatic keep warm, extended keep warm and reheating cycle, delay timer with two settings and a built-in retractable power cord.

Accessories include a spatula, a spatula holder, and 2 rice-measuring cups (regular and rinse-free). The 680-watt rice cooker and warmer measures 11-1/8 by 14-1/4 by 9-1/2 inches. Micro computerized Advanced Neuro Fuzzy logic technology Menu settings include: white (regular/sushi, softer or harder), mixed, porridge, sweet, semi-brown, brown, rinse-free and quick cooking Programmable melody or beep audio indicator Extra Large Easy-to-Read color LCD display Automatic keep warm, extended keep warm and reheating cycle Spherical inner cooking pan and heating system ensures even heating for perfectly cooked rice Programmable Delay timer (2 settings) Fold down handle for easy carry and transport Built-in

retractable power cord Accessories include: Spatula, spatula holder and 2 measuring cups (regular and rinse-free) cETLus listed Make every rice type imaginable with a Zojirushi Rice Cooker Brown Rice This is a menu setting designed to cook delicious brown rice. In order to cook hard rice bran and the rice inside, preheating time is extended for better absorption of water, and is cooked at a lower temperature to allow the rice to cook longer without becoming mushy.

Sushi Rice Because sushi rice will be processed after it’s cooked, it’s easier to handle when it is a little firmer. This menu setting is very similar to regular white rice, but uses less water (adjusted by the water fill lines) for a firm finish. Mixed Mixed rice is rice cooked with additional ingredients and seasonings. This setting extends preheating for better absorption of seasoning. Also, the cooking temperature is slightly lower than regular white rice, to avoid ingredients from boiling over.

Porridge Instead of cooking rice in larger amounts of water and risk making it sloppy, use the porridge setting to cook fluffy porridge. Cooking temperature is slightly lower than regular white rice, to be cooked longer for soft texture. MICOM (Microcomputer) Technology Aided by microcomputer technology, this category of rice cooker takes having rice on your menu from “occasional” to “serious”. Basically, the microchip does all the thinking for you, as far as

adjusting cooking times and temperatures according to the type of rice you are cooking, and timing the pre-soaking of the raw grains and the final “wait” period

during steaming. MICOM allows the cooker to have multiple functions on its menu, making it a necessity for any avid rice fan who wants to incorporate rice into their daily diet. How it Works Conventional rice cookers simply turn on and off in reaction to temperature. The “fuzzy logic” of MICOM fine tunes this adjustment to adapt to various rice types, such as white, brown, sweet or porridge, which all has different cooking requirements.

The trigger to everything is the thermal sensor, a small round button at the bottom of the inner body of the cooker. As the inner pan’s weight rests on it and activates the sensor, it starts the cooking process and keeps an eye on the temperature and time. Key Features: Convenient detachable inner lid for easy cleaning. Stay-cool side handles make removal of the inner cooking pan quick and easy.

Spherical inner cooking pan provides even heating for better cooker. .”

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Does anyone know what is the differences between Neuro Fuzzy and Mitcom Zojirushi rice cooker? Which one is better? Thanks.

This model, the NS-ZCC10/NS-ZCC18, is the only one I’ve found labeled “Neuro Fuzzy” and is made in Japan, while the comparable Micom Fuzzy Logic NS-TSC10/NS-TSC18 is made in China. Two differences are that on the ZCC there are cool touch handles to pull out the pot and the steam vent is easier to clean. I have read in another answer related to the NS-ZCC10 5.5 cup model that the Neuro Fuzzy models have 2 extra sensors to also check room and lid temperatures, while the cheaper TSC units just have a sensor on the center post the pot sits on. I haven’t been able to confirm the existence or lack of extra sensors independently though.Steam vent cleaning video showing both models -https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=UU2Tssa-a-rEEWM5il8cWRuw&feature=player_detailpage&v=aypd1H2h_aA#t=40The biggest difference though between these models though, is that the ZCC has a spherical heating element, which was a pretty big innovation. Spherical heat is an important reason why induction models cook better, so I’d say the ZCC sits between the non-spherical TSC, and spherical induction HBC models. The ZCC Neuro Fuzzy model appears to be the sweet spot in quality and performance for money spent.Better comparison information than what retailers are displaying – http://www.zojirushi.com/ourproducts/how_and_chart/comparison_pdf/Zojirushi%20Rice%20Cooker%20Chart.pdBEGIN Japanology – Rice Cookers – mentions the introduction of spherical induction in the 1980shttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KbRRHRbprUAs far as differences in programming between Neuro Fuzzy and Fuzzy Logic models, as the names insinuate, there may be some differences because the Neuro Fuzzy has the extra room and lid temperature sensors. The higher end models, up to the $500 NVC pressure induction units, don’t mention Neuro Fuzzy but they likely have these extra sensors too. Fuzzy Logic is something they teach in textbooks, but “Neuro Fuzzy” seems to have been pulled out of nowhere by marketing, so the lack of clear explanation from Zojirushi confusing. It seems to me Zojirushi wanted to differentiate the Japanese made ZCC unit from its less expensive Chinese made cousin, the TSC/TGC, and Neuro Fuzzy was used as a buzzword to help identify the better model at a glance. Especially since ZCC has plain white appearance compared to the TSC. There are no comparable Chinese made versions of the higher end induction units, so the Neuro Fuzzy label is not needed for them. I also suspect the margins on the China made Micom Fuzzy Logic TSC models are good, and Zojirushi doesn’t want to upset those sales by touting the spherical heating element or extra sensors on the Neuro Fuzzy ZCC too hard. I ended up ordering ZCC and would recommend spending the extra $20 over the TSC for it.

2. Have you tried cooking other whole grains in it- such as barley, quinoa, polenta, or buckwheat? If so, what settings have you used? Thanks!

I cook brown rice mixed with 25% wild rice at the setting of “Brown Rice.”The mixture cooks well with 150% of water without presoaking, but it takes 110 min. When time is short, I use a pressure cooker; it takes about 30 min. When I was a child, I used to eat barley at every meal, but I don’t know how to cook.I will ask around. We always ate buckwheat in as noodles.I have just bought a bag of quinoa.I will find an answer in a month.

3. Does the Teflon wear off easily in the pan?

Yes. We have a very similar model, slightly earlier; we’ve replaced the liner pan once, after someone used a fork to serve up their rice, but now even with strong admonishments to the household, it’s been peeling again for a couple of years and we can no longer get a replacement. I don’t know why Zo doesn’t make a household-level stainless liner model.

4. How many watt is this rice cooker?

Rear of rice cooker appears to say 680 watts.

Okay, I lived in Japan for 10+ years, and have been visiting there for over 30 years, so I have eaten a lot of rice in my time. In all honesty, I’m not even that crazy about rice. Being a former baker, I much prefer bread, and over all this time have always thought that rice is rice, you know what I mean?

Since I moved back to the U.S. about five years ago, I used a cheap rice cooker/steamer/yogurt maker from Costco. It did the job, and cooked rice fairly adequately. It died on me last year, though, and my wife BEGGED me to buy a quality rice cooker to replace it. Though a cheapskate at heart, I’m also a big softie, so after spending hours online researching rice cookers in English and Japanese, we settled on the 5.5 cup model of this one. It lacks all the bells and whistles of higher end suihanki, but it has high reviews, the most modern technology and design features to cook rice well, and Zojirushi is one of the most trusted brands in Japan.

As much as I have wanted to believe that my wife was over finicky about rice (typical male?), I am not too proud to admit when I am wrong. I was so wrong – the rice that this appliance cooks is truly phenomenal! Whereas the rice in the previous cooker had soft and hard spots – some rice overcooked and some undercooked – the rice from this one is uniformly consistent. Each grain comes out glossy and chewy, with just the right amount of stickiness.

If you want to make any popular Japanese dishes, from the lowly onigiri (rice balls), to sushi – everything turns out more delicious with rice from this cooker. I truly don’t understand how there can be such an immediate, explicit difference in the quality of the cooked rice. We use the same exact brand of rice every time, and my wife doesn’t even use any of the “fancy” features on the device – she just hits “quick rice.”

Nearly two hundred dollars may seem like an exorbitant amount to spend on a one-trick pony appliance like this (especially considering our bread machine was only around 50 bucks). Rest assured, though, this is money well spent. I cannot recommend this rice cooker enough..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Can it cook quinoa?

I have the 8-cup one and the brown rice setting cooks quinoa perfectly! You have to soak it first (minimum 6 hours) but it comes out fully cooked, light and fluffy!I just purchased the larger 20-cup cooker (the 8-cup doesn’t hold enough veggies for me) and am sure the brown rice setting on the larger cooker will make quinoa perfectly as well.

2. Is the lid removable ?

You do not want the lid to be removable because that would require an extra (third) hand for operating the devise; and a clean and safe place to set down a removed lid. It is sufficient for the pot alone (and steamer tray) to be removable.

3. Does this rice cooker have a chime/bell to let you know when its done cooking? also does it have an off switch? The current one i have has to be unplugged when not in use.

Hi Judy – Yes this does have a beeper. When the rice is done it beeps on and off for about 5-6 seconds and automatically switches to keep warm. Once you’re done you can press the power button and it toggles off so no need to unplug.

4. Is the slow cooker setting high or low? Most recipes say 4-6 hours for high and 8-10 hours for low. Does it turn off automatically?

The slow cooker function is high and runs around 165+ F. The “keep warm” function is low and is 145ish F degrees.

I decided to write one in the hopes that you will find this and this will help you make a decision whether to purchase or to not.

I’m a simple guy who is terrible at cooking rice and has to feed a family of 6 regularly (not including the occasional guest that pops in unexpectedly). This rice cooker is awesome and I question why I waited so long to buy one. Sure, you could get a better one by dropping a couple hundred bucks on a fancy model but for what this does, it does it well. It takes about 35 minutes to cook rice for that many people. Yes, you can cook it faster by doing it the old fashioned way, but I find it very convenient to put the rice on first and just forget about it while I’m cooking the rest of the food. It makes juggling the stove much easier and frees up a burner slot so I could cook something else instead of micro-managing rice. The cup provided with the rice cooker is 3/4 the size of a regular cup of rice but even still one cup per person is more than enough.

Put your rice in in and then fill the conveniently marked bowel with water up to the number of cups you used. For example, place 6 cups of rice and then fill with water up to the “6” marked line on the inside of the bowel. Easy-peasy. You DO have to rinse your rice off before you start the cooker to get rid of extra starch but this process only takes a minute or less and you don’t need special tools or anything. I just put in the rice, add a bit of water, swirl it around, carefully drain the water out (the water will turn milky white), and literally rinse and repeat until the water is more or less clear upon draining. The rice comes out fluffy and great with nothing burned on the bottom of the pot.

I’ve also cooked other things in the rice cooker as well like a beef stew and chili. Each time I cut up the meat, tossed it in, chopped up veggies, added water and spices, closed the lid and hit the “slow cooker” option. It says it will take 7 hours but a pot roast (cut into 3-5 inch cubes) only took about 4 hours to cook and the meat was just falling apart. SO GOOOOD!

The instructions are simple and whenever you use this rice cooker please use the cup provided for easy measuring. Other than that it was worked great, cleans super easy, easy to operate, and does what it’s supposed to do. You won’t be disappointed. Hope this review helps! Also, feel free to ask me some questions if you have any. I’m no scientist but I might be able to help as well..

I decided to go ahead and spend the $$ for this model. I went with the 3 cup since I rarely made more then 2 cups for the three of us.
I did run most of the settings: I made basmati, jasmine, Uncle Ben’s converted, medium and brown rices. It has the most problems with jasmine rice (between the white and long grain settings) but it still came out good. The rest of the settings were 5 star. It is the first rice cooker I’ve had that actually makes good brown rice which is a major plus. The basmati came out aromatic with each grain separated using the long grain setting.
One note on cooking times: The typically run from 45 to 60 minutes. They mention in the manuals that soak time is built into their programs so there is no need to soak the rice in advance.
In addition i made quinoa and like the rice it came out nice and fluffy with each grain separated.
The build quality appears to be solid. Rice pan has a non-stick coating, but it appears to be tough. Zojirushi says it is OK to rinse the rice in it, but I still use a cheap stainless steel bowl for this. why risk the damage to the coating? They have several features that make clean up easy, with no trapped water like on the Aroma..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Does 8 cup refer to the amount of dry rice you can cook or is it the amount of cooked rice produced?

4 cups uncooked or 8 cups cooked rice.

2. What is the minimum amount of rice that can be cooked in the 8 cup size? Can I cook just 1 cup of rice?

Great question! Yes you can make as little as 1 cup of rice in the Zest. Trying to make less than that may result in the finished rice ending up too dry.

3. How long will it keep food warm?

Thanks for your question. The Zest Rice and Grain Cooker can keep warm for up to 10 hours, when used as a standalone function. When it is used in conjunction with other Smart Programs it can keep warm for 12 hours.

4. What are the inner cup markings used for? In my old rice cooker, they tell me how much water to use. 3 scoops rice = fill water to “3” cup mark.

Hi there! The markings correspond to the cup that comes with the Zest. The cup is not a true cup. It’s a standard rice measurement cup. So the recipe says 2:2, rice:water. Then you’d put in level 2 cups of rice, and fill the pot with water to the 2-mark. Hope that makes sense, and your rice comes out nice and fluffy!

My husband loves rice and I love to cook with my wok- using it several times a week. Well, some time ago, my husband suggested we buy a rice cooker to make things easier and to get a more consistent rice product every time. I finally relented after Jasmine rice went south!

What an amazing tool!

I have used it 8-times so far and each time, the rice is PERFECT! I’ve used it for brown rice, long-grain rice, jasmine rice, and oatmeal and it all came out PERFECT! It keeps the item you make warm if you leave the lid on and hit, “warm” on the product BUT, I’ve just left the lid on and it’s kept the food warming without hitting the, “keep warm” button.

I’m so very impressed with this product. The rice cooks in 1/2 the time and it’s PERFECT each time I’ve used it.

As a warning, do not use metal spoons in this product. You must use plastic, silicone, or wood so as not to scratch the surface of the bowl. I have not used the steamer as I stir-fry my veggies.

If you are an avid rice or oatmeal eater, this is such a great item to have in your kitchen. It’s easy to clean as well. I use dish detergent and a soft sponge to wash it out but really- nothing sticks. Not even oatmeal! Just use a bit of warm water when you empty the bottom bowl and it will wash right out. NO SCRUBBING!

My husband, for YEARS, was wanting a rice cooker and I balked at the idea. I finally gave in one night when the bottom of our rice was overcooked on the stove and the top was still crunchy. I’m a really good cook and I was embarrassed. Still not sure what happened there but now, I never need to worry as I just put the rice in after rinsing it, add the appropriate amount of water, and close the lid and plug in to go. The rice is done quickly and perfectly every time!.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Can you cook minute rice in it

This broke after two uses, and it didn’t matter if it was minute rice or not

2. Does the rice turn out like “steamed rice” at a Chinese restaurant?

If you put more water it will be sticky like in the restaurant . Less water more like Spanish rice

3. Can you add salt and butter to the rice and water before cooking?

yes. I do all of the time. I’ve used broth to cook rice instead of water, but you have to be more mindful of not leaving it on warm long once it finishes cooking.

4. Has anyone’s started smoking? First use I seen smoke and it smelled like burn rubber.

Check from where smoke is coming. Is it smoke or steam. Smoke – unplug immediately – return to dealer.

It helps to ensure the rice doesnt stick as well. When cooking is finished, unplug it and let it steam. The warm feature will still cook your finished rice making it overcooked. As a caterer/chef, it has my approval.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. No matter what i do (trying different amounts of water) i end up with a sticky mess. i live in colorado, could that be the problem?

Sticky mess? You must rinse the dry rice in water, until the water is clear. This removes the starchy powder which causes your cooked rice problem. —Buy the correct type of rice for your needs. Be aware of the labels on the packaging. Medium grain rice is ‘sticky rice’ like in sushi. Long grain rice is the soft fluffy kind.

2. Does this have fungus?

For a small extra charge, fungus can be provided.

3. dimensions says 16″ is that right? That seems big for the picture

The insert measures 6″ across by 2 1/2 deep, Total dimensions of the cooker is 8 1/2 tall by 5 1/2 across. This is a mini rice cooker enough for 2 cups of rice for two. I like it because I do not have any left over rice.

4. Can it cook brown rice?

Maybe.Since the ratio of brown rice to water is about 1 cup rice: 2 cup water the volume of pot is maxed out prior to cooking.Water and brown rice is full to the top.If you cook more than 1 cup brown rice you should get a larger capacity cooker. The measuring cup supplied with the cooker is 6 ounces full, rather than standard US 8 ounce cup of measurement.

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Mimi says: “I like rice but my husband doesn’t so I got this mini rice cooker as a gift for myself. I’ve had it about a month and it’s great. Put in the rice, put in the water and press cook and that’s it. I wondered if the warming feature that takes over after cooking is done would make the rice over cook, but I’ve gotten perfect sticky rice the way I like it every time. The rice cooker takes up very little room, cleans up easy and is so much easier than stove cooking. Be aware that it has to be unplugged
to turn off but it’s really no big deal. It comes with a measuring cup and directions but I’ve been using a 2(water) to 1(rice) ratio and it works for me.

It’s been a year now and my little pink cooker is still working great and looks as good as the day I got it..

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

DarkCrystalis says: “Since I started working full-time 1.5 hours away from home, I can’t be bothered to stand over a rice pot to cook dinner when I finally get home each night at 7pm. I’ve never owned a rice cooker before now, so I was a little apprehensive at its great price and also great rating. I had been looking at the Zojirushi rice cookers because I’d heard great things about them, but was shocked at their prices. I mean, all I want to do with the thing is cook rice, so $40 or up to a ridiculous $400 for some models sounded
crazy to me. After reading reviews on multiple sites for this Rival rice cooker, I decided it was worth a try and bought it.

I’m really pleased with how it has performed thus far! It’s not perfect, but for the price I really can’t complain much. Sometimes the water bubbles out of the top of the cooker lid while cooking and the water forms a ring around the ledge of the lid, but it’s really quite minimal. I always, ALWAYS thoroughly wash my rice in a bowl (until the water isn’t cloudy) before cooking it, so I’ve never had any other issues with the cooker. I kinda wish it had an extended warming function (I believe this one is up to 5 hours) so that I could set the rice cooker in the morning and have it ready once I get home at night, but for the price and reliability this rice cooker can’t be beat. Don’t forget, this rice cooker also comes with a metal removable steaming basket, in case you’d like to steam your veggies while cooking the rice. Neat!

For those that are interested, I have also cooked brown rice that was cooked perfectly (I just used more water than if I cooked white rice – the amount of extra water needed will vary, depending on how much you cook).

I purchased this rice cooker in May 2013 and until today it hasn’t failed me yet, even after using it a few times a week (every week) since I bought it..

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Scarlett Phoenix says: “At first, I thought this a frivolous item to buy. Who doesn’t know how to make rice? But, I got an open box item and for about half the price, it’s a steal. It does exactly what I want it to. The only thing I would change is to include the approximate cooking times in the booklet. They include how long to steam vegetables but you don’t know how long 1 cup, 2 cups, etc… of rice need to cook. That would be helpful. I didn’t want to stand in the kitchen and watch it. It does have a warmer so
when the unit finishes cooking, it switches over to the warm feature.
I would also make sure after you put the water in, you stir the rice. I wound up with a tiny patch of browned rice because the water didn’t quite get to it and it was right over the cooking element. I know for next time. They also tell you to wash the rice. DO NOT WASH THE RICE!! You wash away all of the nutrients..
