Therepairman says: “i have installed many many systems over the years but since my 30s i kinda slowed down with all the bigg subs and what not.well i decided to buy this amp and the skar dual sdr 10’s in the skar slot ported box they sell here on amazon or the skar site for 299. The best purchase i have made in years the auto turn when using the high level adapter (supplied) in the amp box is great no running around looking for a 12v accessory for remote turn on amp just senses signal and turns on you really only have

chris says: “I bought this because we got a new 4K TV and that means you need to change everything – the Roku, the Netflix subscription, the HDMI cables… But it is worth it. The sound quality is quite good and I got some Atmos speakers for the front, but honestly I cannot find much content that has Atmos except the Disney channel. If you get this you will find that HBO and Disney have the best sound and Amazon

If you get this you will find that HBO and Disney have the best sound and Amazon and Netflix is less uniform that way – but all do have most of their shows in high quality sound formats. The receiver figures this out and does the proper decoding and, voila! Good sound.
One day, a surround speaker shorted because of the speaker wire pulling out. The unit shut itself down, ran a self diagnostic and told me to there was a speaker short. I fixed it and everything went back to working. NICE!.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Can i connect a dac/headphone amp from a computer? does it affect wattage?

It does not, still 100w per channel.

2. Can I connect the speakers with bare wire? I don’t have or want to order banana plugs.

Yes, the plugs also screw open to feed the wire ends into then screw to tighten to retain the wire connection.

3. Any subwoofer out?

Nope. Left and Right speakers only. Subwoofer outs are usually listed as x.1. So a 2 channel with subwoofer would be 2.1. This is just 2 channel.

4. Does the Bluetooth reception turn off when the power is switched off?

It is not discoverable while powered off.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Seals says: “So I’m really enjoying this little guy. Maybe the best $60-something purchase I’ve made in some time. I listen to a wide range of music, from current pop to classic rock to Bach, medieval music, etc. And I purchased this for a small-footprint, inexpensive bedroom system, where I can stream music from a tablet, laptop, etc. to a small amp and speakers located on a dresser. This is perfect for that. Hifi purists may point out that it is a Class D amplifier — in my younger years 🙂 I both repaired and sold stereo equipment and learned that the most
expensive/highest specs don’t necessarily provide the most enjoyment. So here I am, sipping coffee and listening to this little amp, paired with an “ancient” pair of Technics SB-LX10 bookshelf speaks, streaming from YouTube on the tablet I’m writing this on and thoroughly enjoying the music. Being able to go online and pick from the world’s music and stream it to the Fosi is fantastic. Yeah, I sometimes miss vinyl, but I don’t miss flipping the album every 45 minutes or so, or the space all that equipment took. So thanks guys for this little amp and keep up the good work!.

Sooo…. This is a VERY basic unit. There are no real frills. It attaches easily to my iPhone via Bluetooth (how I normally listen to music so audiophiles can start to gag now) with a few more inputs. The unit will auto detect a paired Bluetooth device and wake up. This is exactly what I wanted, but if you want sub outputs, DTS processing hdmi or digital inputs you need to get something higher end. While this unit does get plenty loud, if you are looking to hook it up to monster speakers and try to anger the neighbors, again you should look for something a little bigger.

I am very happy with this unit and am glad I settled on it. Hope this helps..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Does this radio have a microphone input and does it bring a mic, or can you buy one separately?

It comes with it’s own mic that is equalized specifically for the unit! Because you initiated the question, I can offer you a very aggressive price on this unit and all needed install items. Simply text me at 512-750-8726 for a quote. Thanks!!

2. Can you use a remote control with this unit?

It comes with a remote that works for most functions.

3. does this include a wiring harness?

Yes and no.

There are two wiring harnesses that you have to pair. One connects to the stereo, which is included. The other one connects to your car, and that’s not included because it’s car specific. Search for your car + stereo wiring harness.

You then have to solder or crump these two harnesses together to complete the connection. It’s easier than it sounds. The harness that you buy for your car, along with the stereo, will come with good instructions on which wires to connect.

4. Does this have apple play?

Yes, it does have Apple CarPlay. It also supports Android Auto.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Mark R. Moore says: “Replaced the stock radio in my 2003 Nissan Altima. Easy to install using International dash kit. It’s different, after using a traditional stereo this takes some getting used to. I want to hit buttons but there are no buttons at least not physically. Synced with my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 using the supplied USB cable. Unit synced all the contacts, and maps and navigation where available thru Android Auto. Also use Pulsar to play my music library from the phone. Everything can be done using voice commands something else that takes some getting used to. Rear camera works well and I
can even play some video files on the unit. Unit come with HD Radio which is nice if you live in an area that has them..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Can you send to a/b outputs at the same time, or do you have to use exclusively a or b?

If you are talking about playing speakers A and speakers B at the same time, then yes you can.

2. i noticed a l&r sub output. that means i can have a left and and a right sub added and get the stereo effect of the bass?

There is a single pre-out for connection to a powered subwoofer. You could use an RCA cable splitter if you really need two powered subs. However please note that due to the large wavelength (low frequency) of the sound waves in question the human ear is not sensitive to their directionality. That’s just a matter of physics.

Toward the other end of the frequency spectrum, sound waves are very dense and the human ear is hypersensitive to directionality; hence the popularity of ‘point source’ concentric drivers etc.

3. Bluetooth range?

I had to be directly in front of the receiver to sync. I could pick up music from my cell up to 50 feet before it started loosing the signal.

4. Does this receiver remember it’s last state (i.e. playing radio at a specific volume) when it turns back on?

yes. last volume setting, station tuned, bass, treble, etc are remembered

Ricky Alan Martin says: “I almost made a big mistake by purchasing another receiver that’s $20.00 cheaper on Amazon. I’m so glad I spent the extra money for the SX-10AE. I’m not sure I understand the complaints about the lack of power as far as volume. I almost made a big mistake by purchasing another receiver that’s $20.00 cheaper on Amazon. I’m so glad I spent the extra money for the SX-10AE. For a few dollars more you have the ability to connect the speakers with banana plugs plus add a subwolfer if you desire.

I’m not sure I understand the complaints about the lack of power as far as volume. I start to hear the speakers at level 5 and, since I live in an apartment, I need to hold it down to the 25-35 range. I could never push the volume to the levels some of the other reviews state. In short, I find no problems with the power of this amp that others have reported.

I’ve added a few photos. I bi-wired the SX-10AE to a pair of Polk Audio Monitor Series II floor standing speakers. To do this you remove the jumpers off the speaker terminals, then run 4 wires with 8 connections to both the A and B speaker outputs on the receiver. NOTE: You must turn the receiver to A+B speakers for this configuration. I have the top set of connections to the speakers going to the A receiver outputs and the bottom set of speaker connections going to the B receiver outputs.

My system thus far–and all components are available and purchased on Amazon:

Pioneer SX-10AE Receiver
Polk Audio Monitor Series II floor standing speakers (2 sold individually)
Amazon Basics 14 gauge speaker wire (100 feet cut into 25 foot segments)
Mediabridge banana plugs (16 required)
*Although not needed I’ll be buying a Polk subwolfer next payday 🙂

Other hints:

Always check, double check and triple check the speaker polarity as you can make mistakes
Label your speaker cables, especially when bi-wiring/bi-amping as it can get confusing

I’m blown away by the quality of this configuration..

  • 28-bit binary floating-point DSP and 3-way digital network

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. What happens with the internal amp when network mode is selected? Can I power 4 speakers with the internal amp and still have the pre-outs as 3-way?

internal amp can be turned on or off regardless if you are in standard or network mode.
you can power 4 speakers using hi level line in full active plus sub via rca, i do not know if the 4 rcas from the 2 way front are still useable. i do not think so.

2. Does this unit comes with a built-in bluetooth? the pic of the head unit says it has but I don’t find it in the specifications.

Hi Ferdinand, Yes it has built in bluetooth. The bluetooth works very well. I’ve paired it to an iPhone, Droid X, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2. At first I was just using it for Pandora listening which sounds surprisingly good. I’m a big user of Plantronics Voyager Pro HD’s – I keep two on hand so I’m always driving with one in my ear. One weekend I headed out without them and the phone rang through the DEH-80PRS, I pressed answer and had a long conversation with a client using the microphone which is fixed between the door and windshield. The caller said it was very clear so since then I often use it instead of the Voyager Pro HD.

3. Does this include the auto eq microphone? The description says it is required but other websites say it is included with purchase of this headunit.

Yes it includes the auto eq microphone.

4. Does it work with the iPhone 5s?

Yes it does but you may need to upgrade the firmware if it hasn’t already been done so at the factory.
I provided a link below to the Pioneer site with the info needed on the firmware upgrade.

The display does not auto dim (could be the user on that one, I have not had time to really go through controls yet). It has what all single DIN stereos have – a clunky interface that usually is better to use the remote to control.
Every time you change the source, it will rebuild the list — dumb, but true — so I strongly recommend SSD for main music store. I have a 250GB disk, and it takes about 5 seconds to catalog before it is ready to use. The SD card states a maximum of 32GB, but I am using a microSD + adapter that is 64GB (formatted as FAT32) and it is happy with that.
I am using an external amp, standard setup, not network. I may go network eventually, but I had good front + back Infinity speakers (and a RF subwoofer) and didn’t want to throw more cash at this time.
I used to be a Sony stereo guy, but I had bad luck with their MEX-XB100BT stereo – twice – and researched for a replacement. The sound of this stereo makes Sony look like a pretender. I didn’t realize it before, but the Sony had a bass-heavy, loud sound that did not offer clear sound. If all you want is loud music and you don’t care about the quality (like hearing a saxophone mingled with the keyboards) and you don’t mind the risk, go Sony. If you want to hear your music sound better than you’ve ever heard it sound before, go with this stereo.
UPDATE:
I found a quiet spot on the way to work and performed the auto time calibration / eq setup.
I have Infinity Kappas 62ix up front and they can sound harsh, but after the calibration, the front mellowed – not in a hushed, muted way, but it did tone down the harshness to a bright tone. The clarity in the music is still there, but everything sounds better and the stereo sound is great.
I confess I was late coming into work because I was sitting in my car in the parking lot listening to music!
UPDATE:
I have used a 128GB micro SD with an SD adapter in the SD slot, no problem
The beep turning off the ignition can be turned off, but the beeps for volume changes cannot.
The display does have a dimmer. To change the “off beep” and dimmer, press and hold down SRC to power unit off, press and hold the big knob until the setup menu appears, use side “spinners” to move through menu options, press knob to change values. Press SRC when done..

As a stereo its more than loud enough for where I’m at and what I need and the sound quality is pretty good. No complaints about sound quality. Better than I expected really. It has a built-in fan that is a little noisy if its going and you cut the music off but not an issue to me. The Bluetooth is pretty handy. I use it quite a bit to play along with and learn songs. I’ve hooked some drum loops up to play along to as well when I’m noodling around. Bass sounds pretty decent through it. I don’t push it too hard usually but I’ve cranked it a couple times because making the thunder is half the fun. After messing with the EQ a bit I got a pretty gnarly tone I was digging and was rattling every window in the house. Its not something I would cart to a gig, but great for making noise and playing at home or to get random jam session goin with buddies. I got far more bang for my buck than I would have got if I bought a little $100 combo practice amp. It has a line out I may use to play around with for some home recording. I may not ever mess with it but I think it is cool that it’s there. You can plug into this thing pretty much anyway you can think of, too.

I’ve had it a month or so and really couldn’t be more pleased with it. It’s fulfilling the uses I got it for. I got this as an open box, like new deal for $90. I didn’t have super high hopes because it seemed TOO cheap. I’m going to 5 star it because usefulness/features to cost ratio is just too damned good. Hopefully it doesn’t randomly stop working in a couple weeks and make me come back to take away the praises I’m Pyling on. See what I did there?.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. what pioneer amp would you recommend for 2 of these subs?

run the single speakers in series, then run them both in parallel. 2@2 ohms in par. equals total off 4 ohms i would recomend anyone with 800 plus watts rms

2. Can 4 of these be hooked up to a 1500 class d 1 ohm stable amp if so how would they hold up?

They would hold up fine. Since these subs are dual 4ohm you could run three of them at 8ohms and the fourth at 2 ohms, and if you ran them all parallel after that it would bring your final impedance down to 1.14ohms.

3. Will the boss audio pt1600 phantom 1600 watt, 2 channel, 2/4 ohm stable class a/b, full range, bridgeable work with these subs?

I can’t think of a reason it wouldn’t work. I run a boss 1500 and it sounds great so as long as your EQ and tune are good you’ll be fine.

4. Can I run one on a 1500 watt amp

Be careful not to blow it cuz sub is only about 4-500 rms.. I had 1 on a 1200.1D hifonics and went ahead and bought a 2nd to run so amp can get to full potential out of amp.

I got it to mount under the bench seat of my Chevy Express van and it works perfectly for that. There was even room for me to mount a low-end Boss R1100MK amp on top and still fit under the seat. I know this isn’t a high end, high dollar sub. If you’re looking for something to annoy humanity by rattling all windows within a 1 mile radius, look elsewhere. What I wanted was something to add the missing low end for normal, reasonable music listening and for that purpose it sounds fantastic. It’s more than I need. I have to keep it at or below half volume (on the amp control). I don’t even need to use any bass boost options in my receiver or the Boss amp.

I was looking originally at the all-in-one self powered underseat subs in the same relative price range but they all just looked so wimpy. This thing is soooo much better than those. Granted, you still have to buy an amp, but for under $200 you can have a really nice sub sound..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Would this amp be suitable for a covered patio area or is it for indoors only?

You are not likely finding any amp built to work directly under the weather. This and other amps should work just fine under a cover. I even had a similar one mounted under my deck which can see rain coming down the deck board gaps. I built a small box with only three sides to protect it and it worked perfectly fine for the summer. You do also need to protect the power brick, which I had in the same box.

2. Do you hear pop sound whenever music starts playing? Is there a fix? (I did change my audio driver’s power to never cease. Is it inherent amp prob?)

I have had no problem what’s so ever with this device and I have used it with several different set of speakers!

3. Please recommend a compatible battery pack or rechargeable power supply so I can use this while camping.

Hi, make sure your battery pack or rechargeable power supply for this Bluetooth digital amplifier are waterproof.

4. Do bluetooth and aux play simultaneously?

Hi, you can only use Bluetooth and AUX on this Bluetooth Digital Amplifier separately.

If you’re looking for a desktop amp, you’re likely in awe of the glut of cheap Chinese chip amps. I did a lot of research and purchased several of them, as well as a dedicated high-quality bluetooth receiver to compare audio quality against. Remember that you’re looking at very low-cost desktop chip amps powering 8Ω speakers — this isn’t going to be in the same ballpark of quality of traditional analog amps. If your expectations are adjusted, you’ll love this little guy.

1. Connectivity

Bluetooth: It’s hard to find a bluetooth amp under 100 bucks with aptX HD. This is a big selling point. Qualcomm’s aptX HD codec gets you a high-enough bitrate that using bluetooth instead of a wired connection can actually get you decent results. When it is stable, the sound quality is quite good without noticeable latency or syncing issues when paired with videos. I did notice with this receiver that the bluetooth connection seemed to suffer from some occasional crackles. I’m wondering if there’s interference coming into play. I’m close to docking a star for the interference, but I have to determine if it’s something in my setup first. I’ll try to update when I have a better sense of the issue. UPDATE: I purchased a second unit and this one is not having the same problem with bluetooth signal drops. I’m happy to report that it’s working perfectly.

Aux in (3.5mm jack): sounded great plugged into my turntable (with pre-amp). No hiss or notable issues to speak of.

Noe that when bluetooth connects, it takes precedence over line-in. There’s no switch to choose inputs.

RCA/Optical/Coax: I didn’t realize this when purchasing the unit, but these connections are all *outputs*, not inputs. The only inputs to the amp are bluetooth and 3.5mm. I haven’t tested the output ports.

2. Audio quality

As an amplifier it does the job well. I’m not sure what chips they’re using, but there’s no noticeable clipping or distortion at 50-70% volume and it’s plenty loud. The sound is warm and clean, not overly processed-sounding. I didn’t notice any issues with hissing until I got up to 90%+ volume; at lower volumes, I couldn’t detect anything. I’m pretty sure the amp can deliver the 50Wx2 on the box.

3. Controls

The plastic bass and treble knobs provide some ability to dial in the sound, though their effects are not as prominent as I’ve heard in some other amps. There’s an impossible-to-see small circle on each dial to indicate where it is set. I would’ve liked to see painted lines. That said, all three knobs have a nice click of resistance when you get to the 50% setting, which helps you orient yourself without even looking at them. I noticed a slight lag to the effect of moving the knobs, which I later realized is due to the fact that the controls seem to make changes in “steps” rather than a linearly.

Overall, I’m quite happy with the quality of this unit, especially considering its cost. You’re just not going to get better sound from your bluetooth devices to your speakers for under $100..
