Mine smellslike beautiful pizza, but always at the right moment! No bad smells from the pizza stone otherwise. I love mine. If others are experiencing that issue, it might be due to something stuck on the stone that is repeatedly burning, or it could be because they washed or soaked it and did not follow the directions properly afterwards. It is a very dense but porous material and I imagine that if it gets waterlogged, steam + stuck burned food would combine to create a bad smell. 1. Why does my pizza stick? I have pre heated each time as instructed.

Sticking will occur when:

1/the stone is not hot enough, this is the main reason of sticking.

In the convection oven without heating tubes, it will take longer to preheat. We advise you to turn on the top broiler and put the stone on top rack to preheat with the highest temperature of your oven. Maybe you can burn the stone on burner, and it will heat up much quickly. You can also use infrared thermometer to get the temperature. If the temperature lower than 450F, the pizza may won’t have brown bottom, even turn out to be sticking. It’s hard to tell the accurate preheating time of reaching that high temp because it always depend on the performance of the oven or grill. One hour probably not enough in some ovens which can’t reach their indicated temp. Infrared thermometer will show you the right way.

2/ the dough is too wet. For this, dusting some flour or cornmeal with your dough is useful, you can also put parchment paper on the stone to prevent sticking.

2. Is this lead free?

1. how high can you heat this stone?

I believe it’s rated to 450F, similar to most stones. However, this stone isn’t very resistant to thermal shock. I’ve broken two by placing homemade, non-frozen, pizza on them(admittedly at 550). I’d recommend a better stone. Now the pieces of these just sit in the bottom of my oven to help with heat recovery times.American Metalcraft makes a much nicer Deluxe stone from corderite. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ve seen it locally at the restaurant supply store and it’s the next stone I intend to try.

2. Can it be used in microwave ?

If you mean if it is safe to be used in a microwave, I do not know. If you mean, does putting it in a microwave help with cooking, no it is not intended to. The pizza stone is intended to store and redistribute heat (more evenly) in a conventional oven. If the stone is “transparent” to microwave, it would be “safe” to use in a microwave, but that would mean that it does not heat up and so does not help in the roasting/baking/cooking of the food. If it DOES heat up, it means it is not “transparent”, but that generally means that it is not safe to be used in a microwave. But the manufacturer should probably answer this question.

3. How should one use this so it does not crack? this is the perfect size for my oven, but i’ve read too many reviews about it breaking in the oven. TY

Couldn’t tell you honestly. We tried it twice ,two different ways and they broke. We bought a steel one . Works great!

Maybe 3/4 inch BUT I have been very disappointed in this product. Bought a $7 pizza pan with holes in the bottom and had much better luck achieving a crispy crust.
