Best pneumatic caulking gun Reviewed!

This top 10 best pneumatic caulking gun review starts by looking at the different technologies and then after lists the best products.

1. Newborn 724 Bulk/Sausage Pneumatic Applicator, for 24 oz. Bulk/10-20 oz. Sausage

The Newborn 724 pneumatic steel applicator can act as a 24 oz. bulk gun or a 10 or 20 oz. sausage gun and has 100 psi of pressure for use with very high viscosity materials. The adjustable air pressure regulator controls the flow of the material, and the air dump valve quickly stops the flow. The set includes leather cups with a floating sausage cup, an oval nozzle, and three plastic cone nozzles.

Caulking guns, also called caulk or cartridge guns, dispense a controlled flow of products such as caulk, sealants, and adhesives from a tube or cartridge. A manual caulking gun consists of a frame which holds the tube, a trigger, and a rod which moves forward when the trigger is depressed, dispensing the product. Manual caulking guns have a thrust ratio; the higher the thrust ratio, the easier it is to dispense the caulk, sealant, or adhesive.

Air-powered or pneumatic caulking guns also have a frame and a trigger, but are used with an air pressure regulator that pushes the product from the tube using air pressure instead of a rod. Newborn Brothers Company, Inc. manufactures sealant and adhesive dispensers and accessories. The company was founded in 1974 and is headquartered in Jessup, MD. What’s in the Box? 1 Newborn 724 steel pneumatic applicator Leather cups with a floating sausage cup 1 OV-25 1/2″ oval nozzle 3 plastic cone nozzles

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. No gauge on regulator? Is there a port for a gauge?

There is a regulator. Very nice and solid product. Been able to get a lot of things done with this one and still very robust.

2. Am i doing something wrong? when used it made the tab indide the tube collapse sideways made a big mess

When loading the gun, first cut the plastic nozzle ( tip ) of the cartridge. Then break the inner seal by inserting a long nail or metal wire into the nozzle. Make enough holes in the seal so that the product can flow freely. Before actually placing the tube into the gun , push the plunger ( the plastic or metal round shield that closes the bottom of the tube) to make sure it has not glued itself the the wall of the tube. Now you are ready to slide the tube into the gun.

3. Does this use a hard latex silicone caulk tube, or sausage tubes?

This is for caulking tubes ( cartridges) but will not work with soft packs (sausages)
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Dr. Deb says: “This caulking gun worked perfect. Super easy to dial in pressure for flow speed. Just finished 60′ of new trim around the garage door. I could not be more pleased. Always practice first. Temperature and viscosity will change your pressure requirements. Flow stops immediately when releasing trigger. Worth every penny. I dialed down my Mac 2400 air compressor to 60 psi because I didn’t think it would be a good idea for the guns regulator to see 140psi, but that’s just me. Instructions are unusually very detailed on the specifications of the gun. I was impressed. I may never have to
use this tool again, but way worth it for the job I just finished. Not sure what the negative reviews are about. Probably user misunderstanding. Happy caulking !!!!.

4. can this be used to as a candy cannon?

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Stogie says: “Im a window installer. i still use my pump gun to prep the buck and windows but i use this to face caulk. So it gets quite a bit of use. Was good at first but then it didnt work so well. Took it apart and the tubes inside are cheaply attached. Although i should say i was running the gun at 120psi. But no biggie popped a few screws out and took the several air hose connections and i super glued them as they had blown out. Since then it works lika beast. Only annoying thing is how fast you
have to replace the sausage. Ive had it now a couple months. At hte price it is id be pleased if it lasted 1 year…. after you glue the fittings. But that wasnt that big a deal for me..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Will a small 2 gallon Craftsman evolve work?

Assuming the pressure of the 2 gallon will get high enough for the manufacturers recommendation, it should work just fine. I use a craftsman pancake compressor.

2. Can this be used with sausage tube caulking, is there an end piece nozzle available?……works great with regular tubes

Mine did not come with a nozzle, don’t know where you could get 1,except maybe where you buy the sausage tube caulking.

3. Has anybody used this for driveway / concrete joint caulking? I don’t want to spend $1500 to have some idiot do it for me. I’d rather be that idiot.

Above mentioned caulking gun and swivel attachment. Awesome . I used for caulking entire roof joints. It was cold! Had to keep caulking at correct warm temperature, down in tack room . And if too warm and too much air flow. Look out. Practice and keep air flow low. I would think concrete caulking and correct temp/?getting air flow coordinated. Its one of best tool Ive ever owned, especiallybeing female with bad hand joints.

4. can you run liquid nails in it

I use Liquid nail in this gun and had no problems. Just need to clean up the gun and plunger as soon as you have finished.

I really wanted to buy the DeWalt cordless caulking gun, but really didn’t want to pony up the $200 for it. I came across this caulking gun and after reading a few reviews, decided to give it a try.

I love this gun. It’s comfortable in my hand and lays a nice even bead of caulking. The gun comes with an in-line air regulator, so there’s no need to get another in-line one (Amazon recommended it as an additional purchase, but it wasn’t needed). You will need a main regulator off your air compressor. I found that 20-30 lbs of pressure off the compressor’s regular, with a 1/8-3/16 top hole in the caulking tube, was perfect for my project. I started out with 20 lbs but increased it to 30 and just used the in-line regular to tune it down if needed. I would recommend getting the swivel male coupler to attach to the gun instead of a fixed one. It seemed to keep the air hose out of the way pretty good. Enough that I rarely had troubles with the hose getting in my way. The gun releases all pressure once you let off the trigger, so I didn’t have have any problems with overrunning caulk.

I cannot think of any significant cons with this product. The biggest thing I can recommend to those that are having problems is to set your air pressure at the right poundage at the air compressor. You only need 20 to MAYBE 40 or 50 lbs. 30 was perfect for me..

  • Mechanical advantage 26:1
  • Standard 10 oz. cartridge
  • Built-in ladder hook

  • Made in the UK
Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Is it “dripless”?

Yes–COX North America, Inc. has added a new feature to all MK5 (12:1 Mechanical Advantage) single component applicators. The new switchable flow control allows users to choose between a continuous flow which operates as previously offered, and an automatic pressure release device, that retracts the rod after each trigger pull.Pricing is unchanged with this feature addition!

2. Do any of the COX caulk guns have a tube cutter?

This is a professional grade caulking gun. It does one thing and does it well. There is no monkey business “tube cutter”. This is not a hobbyist edition swiss army knife tool.

3. Would this work well with a low viscosity caulk like latex, or is there such a thing as *too much* thrust for such thin materials?

Overkill for the low viscosity. This is good for pushing tar like products.

4. How do you open the tube without a poker on the gun?

Most tubes now just burst open when pressure applied with gun This gun is the best tool I ever bought

The handle parts are cast, including a lovely “MADE IN ENGLAND”. The ratcheting mechanism is made of machined parts. If you get one be sure to lubricate the pivot points before use (there is a tag on the plunger

If you get one be sure to lubricate the pivot points before use (there is a tag on the plunger rod indicating where to lubricate and how often). It cuts down on noise and likely improves durability.

The action is very smooth, especially when properly lubricated. The 26:1 mechanical advantage is nice to have, but comes at the cost of speed. COX also makes models with less mechanical advantage..

12. Newborn 290 Elite Series Caulking Gun, 1/10 Gallon Cartridge, 22:1 Thrust

Newborn 290 Elite Series Caulking Gun, 1/10 Gallon Cartridge, 22:1 Thrust Ratio

  • Two Component Trigger and Dual Composition Rubber Grip
  • Plastic Housing Over Front Cap and Trigger Components
  • Plastic Cover over Ladder Hook and Thumb Release
  • Single-Piece Sinted Friction Plate and Heat Treated Rod
  • Reverse Punched Thumb Release and Seal Puncture Tool
Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Is this caulk gun dripless… truly dripless?

This model does have the ability to stop dripping, but it is not automatic. To stop flow, press the pressure release button on the back of the gun (the green tab below the ladder hook). This allows the gun to hold constant pressure on thick materials and gives the user the option to release the pressure and stopmaterial flow at will. For an automatic drip free gun, try Newborn’s 212-HTD or 930-GTD.

3. Is it a 10oz gun ?

Yes, this gun is designed for standard 10 oz. cartridges.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

RobertE says: “The Newborne 290 Elite gun has a very smooth and powerful action. Small movements of the trigger provide a steady stream of caulk. I make back the extra cost of this gun with less wasted caulk and adhesives. The grip is comfortable, which reduces hand fatigue for doing lots of caulking and glueing, and may even increase accuracy. NOTE: The action of the 290 Elite is so powerful that I have burst the inner backsides of caulk tube when a small discharge hole is make in the tube and when trying to squeeze too much caulk through the small hole. Remedy:
if you you need to do fine caulking with the gun, take your time. Alternatively, you can make a larger discharge hole in the tip of your caulk tube, if you are in a hurry, but you reduce the quality of the caulk job. I recommend the caulk gun!.

  • Uses standard 11oz cartridges
Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Why is the product description missing from this item? I won’t purchase without a more detailed description. Moving On…

Went to the website and there is a description near the bottom of the page air powered caulk gun, smooth flowing, works well, not a lot of pressure but it is not needed for most caulks. 5 stars

2. Does the flow stop when you release the trigger

no, you have to stop the trigger before you are done.

3. I need to use this on pl 8x by locktite. Anyone who has ever used that before knows how tough that stuff is. Will this gun get the job done?

I can not answer your question directly, but I can relate my experience. I used it with silicone caulk. It was great. I used very low pressure approx. 10-15 PSI. As the tube empties I found it necessary to boost pressure. As I remember it the gun is rated for 50 PSI. I found it easy to control flow and when the trigger is released the flow stop almost instantly.Hope this helps.

4. will it dispense Vulkem 116?

I can’t see why not, Vulkem 116 is gun grade. I used a 3M polyurethane windshield sealant tube in mine and it worked great. One of the best tool-buying decisions I’ve made, It was inexpensive, works great, and saved my arm.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Ivan K. says: “Got tired of pulling the trigger on a manual gun and got this one just to try. Wanted a cordless gun but for a fraction of the cost, this one does just fine. As others mentioned, the trigger position is horrendously bad but once you get the finger positioned, it works great. Of course, you need to dial the pressure way down. I used a cheap regulator-gauge from my primer paint gun, set it to 15 psi to start with and added a little to get the correct speed. Used it for thick double pane window sealant with no problem. Set
the pressure before you cut the first cartridge tip open. Make sure to tighten the tube so that there are no air leaks around the tube, cut the tip and go for it. Well worth it IMO..

  • Piston rod action on cartridge plunger
  • Drawn aluminum barrel
  • Instant dump valve
  • Front plate flips up for cartridge installation
  • Series 3 Air System
  • Silencer
  • Rotating air hose connector included
Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. can this be used with a follow plate? Or caulk tubes only?

I can see no other way to use anything but a 29 ounce tube with my unit. I don’t know what a follow plate is.

2. Will this work with the LEM jerky cannon tube / ends?

This works with the 29oz caulking tubes, I don’t know what the diameter of the LEM jerky tube is or the exact diameter size of the plunger on the Cox tool, (look on Cox wen site for specs) but I guess it might. That’s an interesting concept, be aware that if there are any air pockets in the material being exuded, it can produce some great splatter.

3. Can I use this for a large cartridge of PL construction adhesive?

They make two models. One for the small tube and one for the large. They are not interchangeable.

4. What is the Thrust Ratio of this gun?

Thrust ratio?I’m unclear on what you mean. But I can tell you this: The trigger is a pneumatic switch. The plunger then pushes out the caulking at a rate depending upon your air pressure, the viscosity of the caulk, and the size of the hole in the tip. When you release the trigger, the airflow is cut and the pressure behind the plunger is purged so the caulk stops flowing immediately. It is a powerful tool and I loved it to dispense a few cases of construction adhesive.

I went through 26 tubes of Loctite PL Premium putting up 50 sheets in a weekend. I could have used less glue, but for how easy it was to use, I wasn’t too concerned about saving a few bucks.

Also, if you swap plungers from this and a 10oz caulk gun you can use that size as well..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Is a 6 gallon 150psi air copressor enough to run gun?

That would do fine, we’re using 80 psi through are lines. It’s nice to have the regulator on the back of the gun as well to fine tune the amount of caulk you need applied.

2. Can this gun be used for grouting?

Yes as long as the tube of grout fits. I used it to caulk about 250 feet and it worked great, just control the air pressure.

3. Can this gun be used for grouting.?

Yes as long as cartridge fits the tube..

4. What is the recommended operating air pressure in psi or bar?

Working pressure is 0 to 145 PSI, 6 bar is enough
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Jennifer p. says: “Flexable flow of caulk and stopped when I released the trigger. The first time I got it, I can’t believe it can apply tough adhesive. Find out it is lightweight but powerful. Tips: 1 you can change the flow by rotating the air regulator which is included 2 be careful of the output pressure on tour compressor – no higher than 145psi(softer adhesive lower compressor output)
