Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. What is the age for owning one of these knives in NY?

Mary, I would recommend checking with your local authorities(Police ,etc.) in your state as it varies. Im from the great state of Texas where it is practically mandatory (just kidding) to carry a knife as soon as you can walk – we won’t go into handgunsbut I believe generally if the blade is under 4 inches it’s okay – please check in your state.

2. is this knife made in america?

Mine doesn’t show a “made in” description. It does inform that the blade is Chinese steel (so most likely the whole knife is made in China). Although the price is higher I would recommend a benchmade as the quality seems also to be higher (just bought the benchmade for my wife and she won’t change with me)

3. I’ve had this knife for about 6 months and love it, What are your guys best ways of sharpening the blade?

Directly from Kershaw’s website. I’ve sent them two of my knives and they have great service. Even replaced the blade on one of them for free!”WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO SHARPEN MY KERSHAW KNIFE?””The easiest and surest way to make sure your knife stays sharp is to send it back to us for free sharpening when the knife becomes dull. Just pay for shipping it to our Tualatin, Oregon facility. We’ll sharpen and return it at no charge to you. We will be happy to sharpen your knife for free for as long as you own the knife. For more information on this service, visit our warranty section.”

4. Do you have to sign for this item or will they leave out at the door?

No signature required.

I don’t usualy write reviews but I rely heavily on them. This knife was worth writing about.

I work as a power lineman and in that trade you almost always need a sharp knife on you. After trying many brands and styles I’ve been using this knife for the last 3 years.

The best feature in my opinion is the knife is easily opened and closed with gloves on. I work outside and with high voltage so there’s times I need to access the knife quickly with large bulky rubber gloves on. The grips, assisted open and closing mechanism make this knife easy to use one handed with gloves on. That alone is a huge positive.

Also the blade lasts. It stays sharp long and is easily sharpened or you can send it back and they will sharpen it. Personally I’ve never needed there customer service but my coworker had to send the knife back and he said the interaction was top notch.

I actually life this knife better than the more expensive models I’ve owned because they have thinner metallic grips whereas this has the composite grips that are larger and fit better in your hand/work well with gloves on.

All around excellent knife and excellent company. Must buy totally worth the price in fact it’s a steal..

TheAA says: “I did a lot of research into the different types of Swiss Army knives to see which one I would use the most. I originally bought the Pioneer Alox Silver knife because I liked that its the same model that the actual Swiss Army soldiers used from the 60’s up till now. This knife is almost exactly the same as the Spartan in terms of size. It’s big and has two slots with tools. The Pioneer comes with a large blade, can opener with screwdriver, bottle opener with screw driver and sharp pointed edge for poking holes. I was pleased with
I did a lot of research into the different types of Swiss Army knives to see which one I would use the most.

I was pleased with the knife since it looks classy but I wanted something that was more useful for everyday use. I like the Spartan because its identical to the original Swiss knife, but I wanted to look further. I stumbled onto so many different models for a variety of uses. Tools such as the wood saw, pliers, magnifying glass for instance I found that I don’t use everyday. Plus I found that its better to use other more sturdier tools than a knife if you want to use pliers. The more tools make these knives too bulky and not ideal for carrying everywhere.

I wanted something simple, yet eclectic. I have a minichamp, which is great because it has tools like scissors, an orange peeler and a pen. But I found that I use scissors a lot.

Finally, I noticed the Climber and after much comparison, I decided its the best one for ME. Why? Because its not too bulky first off. It only has 3 slots for tools, making it slightly thicker than the Spartan but not as bulky as the Explorer. It has scissors which are perfect in size. It’s essentially like the Spartan but with the added scissors and parcel carrier(which I find to be useless for most cases). And honestly this is all you need unless you need to cut wood or watch insects from up close with a magnifying glass. This is perfect for the urban gentleman.

Some would prefer the Tinker because they find the separate philips screwdriver more useful than the corkscrew. Well fear not because the can opener, which comes on almost all swiss knives, has a screwdriver at the tip that’s perfect for even the smallest Philips heads. The the extra room for a large philips screwdriver is useless because you already have a tool for that. Plus the corkscrew is useful in party type situations. So pick this over the Tinker.

For those who want something more compact, try out the Compact model. This knife has only two slots but has almost everything including scissors. However, this knife consolidates the can opener and bottle opener. The catch? The tool is very thin and the tip isn’t good for Philips screws, only good for flat heads. Also, there is no small blade.

For those who don’t care for the corkscrew or scissors, get the Pioneer. Why? Because its essentially the same model used by Swiss soldiers and it looks classy. Additionally, the large blade is much bigger than the large blade of regular swiss knives.

But I recommend the Climber 100%. You even have more color options to choose from with this model. I would go with the classic red, that way everyone knows you’re holding an awesome Swiss Army Knife. Happy shopping!.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Is this returnable

I guess but it’s such a great knife I don’t know why anyone would want to return it.

2. Does the knife lock open?

To the best of my knowledge, no it does not lock in place when open – so watch your fingers. I bought it to put it on my keychain. It’s small and lightweight. There are larger and stronger swiss army knives, but this suits my casual purposes.

3. can i get it monogrammed

Not by me, but yes. Many of the SA knives taken at the airport by the TSA have been engraved. The suggestion of a trophy shop or maybe a jeweler would be good options. There is one SAK seller who offers the service. I will try to locate them and post an update.

4. The text says this knife is “Cobalt Blue” but the pictures show a red one. Which is it?

The knife does come in many colors and should be available in blue. If it says you’ll get blue you probably will.

These are incredibly handy pocket knives, especially for fishermen. Let me get straight to the point:

Pros:
– Sharp scissors and knife! I use the scissors to cut fishing line (I typically use up to 20 lb test braid and up to 40 lb test mono leader) and the blade to open packages. As usual, remember to close it when you’re done with it.
– Contrary to the picture shown, the nail filer end is actually flat. That’s right, it doubles as a flathead! It has saved me many times when I needed a small flathead screwdriver and didn’t have one laying around.
– Lightweight! Since there’s a keychain loop, I keep this on a neck lanyard and it doesn’t bother me one bit.
– The tweezers are tiny and useful for picking up small screws (I use them for reassembling my fishing reels).
– The plastic pick is useful for various things, such as trying to get sand out of the crevices of something that you wouldn’t take the knife to instead.
– If properly maintained, these can last years. However, since they’re so inexpensive, I’ve been just buying them every other year so that I can have yet another one laying around just in case (i.e. keep one in the car).
Cons:
– The spring for the scissor can get knocked out of alignment, but that’s an easy fix. Just be careful not to completely destroy it if you do accidentally knock it out. Like all springs, they can be permanently deformed..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Are they made in in USA

On the box it states “Made in China“. But these are very good blades and relatively thick. Even when using them as flat head screwdriver torque twisting they will not break easy.

2. Can this dispenser be refilled with replacement blades?

Dear,
We are really sorry that we don’t recommend you refill this dispenser with replacement blades. Cuz that’s really unsafe. (If just one blade or two, you can insert the blades back into the dispenser one by one, But be sure to be safe. )

3. Assuming this is sk5 steel made in japan by jis with the new official name being changed to sk85(basically aisi w108)? not true tool steel sk5 / t8?

Dear,
Tool steel has two types: carbon tool steels and alloy tool steels.
Sk5 and T8 are the same type of steel, just called by different names. They belong tocarbon tool steels.
Pls rest assured that these blades are made entirely from standard materials and workmanship and are durable

4. my old blade has a single notch does this matter?

Fachmann92 says: “I recorded a 3 minute video review but the file size was 500mb and I have crappy upload speeds so it was taking forever to upload and amazon doesn’t show you the upload progress so I quickly re-recorded a really short video showing how the dispenser works. These blades are just as good, if not better, than the brand name ones at Home Depot. They are really sharp and fits my Milwaukee utility knife perfectly. I haven’t had the chance to fully test them out but I used them to cut through boxes and to do some electrical work and they
cut through everything super easy and without any hesitation. I personally don’t understand all the negative reviews, these are quality blades. The dispenser works by sliding out the top blade but every time you dispense a blade you have to pull down on the clear shell which pushes the blades up, if you don’t, the dispenser arm won’t catch the blade. It does get stuck sometimes but nothing too bad..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. I’ve done everything I can think of to try to close the knife but it won’t budge. Not sure if it’s defective or what. No directions.

there is a metal strip that springs out when the knife is opened. you have to manualy push it back to allow the knife to close. it is on the inside where it can hold the blade in place.

2. Has anyone traveled in a airplane w this knive without the blade? so it would be tsa compliant, in a carry-on bag.

I have forgotten I had is several times and gotten all the way home and realized it was in my carry with the blade still in.

3. How to buy e.a.b. lite folding knife by gerber?

Usually with a credit card

4. I would use this for only opening boxes at home but have several questions: 1. This appears to be a very small knife so can you really grip it that well so it’s safe to use? 2. A reviewer said when closed the blade still stuck out a bit would the Stanley 11-931 1991 Extra Heavy Duty Utility Blade, 5 Pack remedy that?…

1.The size can be deceiving. This knife fits my hand well and locks open solidly, and with a sharp blade, not much pressure is required.Especially for cutting packing tape and boxes, which is my primary use for the Gerber. When I first got the knife, I thought it would roll over in my hand, but this hasn’t been a problem.2.When mine is closed, the folded knife is smooth all around. If this is a problem, maybe loosening the screw and jiggling the blade into a better position would fix that issue? I have only used the original blade to date.3.I haven’t had any problems opening or closing the knife, but I can imagine someone with smaller or weaker fingers having difficulties at first.I’d assume after some use the lock will become a little easier to manipulate. Hope this helps, and after using it for a while now I am very happy with the knife.-Zach

3) If I were to improve this tool, I would suggest cutting little grooves where I marked in black sharpie to help open it up. With wet or sweaty hands if you are on the job, this is a bit difficult to get open..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Is this knife made in the USA?

My knife blade says 1990 KAI Patented so my understanding is that it’s made in “Japan” at least my particular knife..

Either way, a good knife is a good knife regardless of where it happened to have been made.

My 2018’ VW GTI was assembled in Mexico for example but this doesn’t somehow change the fact that its regardless a very solid, well made automobile.

2. how well does the blade sharpen and how long does it stay sharp under use ??

It actually sharpens very well, and quickly! 8Cr13MoV is a high-grade stainless steel that is slightly softer than, say, AUS-8 (itss most comparative steel, some say). With a good diamond sharpener, I’ve found that the blade sharpens fast, and stays sharp under normal/moderately extreme use, from breaking down cardboard boxes to carving sandstone (though highly possible, the latter use is not a good use for any knife). Try the Smith’s PocketPal sharpener or one of Kershaw’s sharpeners. Hope that helps!

3. How strong was the handle? I’ve never seem “glass filled nylon” before and I was wondering if it was sturdy enough to stand up for hard duty?

Open the hood of your car. All that black plastic? Glass filled nylon. PA66GF35. Everything is made of it. It’s good stuff. Don’t worry.

4. Does the thumb stud protrude on both sides of the blade so that the blade can be opened one-handed in either hand with just the thumb?

I’d call the thumbstuds more of a blade stop than a thumbstud

They do protrude from each side of the blade but they are so close to the handle that it’s difficult to employ as a thumb stud

The flipper is perfect

It uses their speedsafe spring system so you should be fine with just the flipper

For a short summary skip to the bottom. If you want a fair assessment of the sharpness/quality of the knife reading the whole things would be better.

For the price I can’t knock it. It’s smooth when it opens and closes, has a good albeit small clip that isn’t too tight, and comes decently sharp. That being said there are some issues. For example, opening with the ‘flipper’ nub is smooth and has a satisfying click, but using the thumb tacks isn’t quite as easy or smooth and doesn’t open with the same click. So it seems like the hinge isn’t reinforced very well. While the handle does have a good grip I’m not a huge fan of the ‘edgy’ pattern, but I can’t take away points for that because I knew what it looked like when I bought it. It’s not too heavy but doesn’t feel cheap either. In short, for a little over twenty bucks this is a good knife. I got it to tear down boxes and do other basic work like that, and it does it’s job nicely. I can’t speak to the longevity of this blade or how well it holds its edge, but really when can you expect at this price point?

My main motivation for writing this post was to clear up how sharp the blade is. Some say it’s sharp as hell, others say it’s incredibly dull, but really the truth is it’s neither. Enthusiasts will knock the blade for being dull because they know how to properly sharpen a knife and buy more expensive knives. For those who buy this as their first knife they will say it’s sharp as can be because it does cut well. But I want to put this in perspective. This can easily cut through cardboard, thin rope like para cord, and other ‘typical’ things like that with a little bit of force, but nothing too excessive.
But I want to compare this blade to the spyderco tenacious to make a point. These blades are made out of the same steel, but the tenacious was double the price. This blade, from amazon without any sharpening, can shave arm hair (with a bit of force, but nothing too crazy) and easily slice through paper when doing the ‘paper test’. It cuts through the same materials listed above with noticeably more ease. But again, it was double the price for the same steel. You can either sharpen this blade yourself, or take it to someone who sharpens blades on the cheap and these knives would be mostly equal in terms of the edge. But would you really spend 5-10 bucks to have someone sharpen a $20ish blade?

In short: For the price it’s great. Can’t complain. It’s sharp enough so that it isn’t a problem, and the build quality exceeds what I would expect with a knife of this price. But if you have cash to burn and want something that comes really sharp from the factory then look at more expensive knives, and maybe other brands. Just remember, you get what you pay for. I fully expect this knife to have a short life because of it’s price, especially if I use it while camping. But if it does break, hey, it was only $20ish bucks..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. How can you pop some inflatable beach balls with this ?

I am glad you brought this question to the forefront. This is a very dangerous and complex problem which will require special instruction and years of diligent practice. As you may not know this contains some very sharp implements, but none of them designed for puncturing beach balls. Rather than spend years honing a skill this instrument was not made for I recommend you purchasethe Jiffy Beach Ball Popper. It comes with easy to follow instructions. It is recommended that you only popbeach balls you own. Popping the public’s beach ball could result in steep fines or incarceration. You could also end up with two raccoon eyesif someone pops you with a knuckle sandwich.

2. what are the dimensions of this item?

2 1/2″ long x 11/16″ wide x 5/16″ thick

3. The picture shows the end of the nail file blade is pointed. But the description says it has a screwdriver blade. (I prefer pointed.) Which is it?

The nail file does have a screwdriver tip on my knife. I purchased mine earlier this year. You could grind it to a point if needed.

S. VanhooseTop Contributor: Pets says: “Victorinox Swiss Army knives are the best! I bought full sized ones for one of my sons and my husband for Christmas, but this little bitty one was for myself recently, as I wanted to add it to my keychain. I was actually looking for something that had a small travel tweezers in it, since sometimes you get near a mirror with REALLY good natural lighting and you see things you did not see at home! The other little gadgets will come in handy, too…scissors for loose threads, nail file for hang nails, end of the file for small screws, and
then the little knife—although I prefer my tiny SpyderCo knife, also on my keychain, for knife jobs. The toothpick is good too, I guess, although I can’t imagine using it on my teeth and then putting it back into the knife. Ew. The only thing you have to watch for is that the little tweezers and toothpick seem to start to edge their way out being on the end of a keychain and getting knocked around. They haven’t fell out or anything yet, but I do find myself tapping them back in a very small distance occasionally. But this is an amazing, high quality little tool that allows you to bring scissors and tweezers everywhere you go—perfect! And the clear pink is pretty cute, too! You can’t go wrong buying this brand..

Previously I had owned this knife after buying it at my local AutoZone. I worked there at the time and used this knife for work related things like cutting boxes when they disrespected me, reckless hose trimming, driving large high-torque bolts, trimming alternators etc. This knife took it all and asked for more. It also made a good intimidating toothpick – which is the best kind, of course.

Anyhow, in this town if you set something down for 5 minutes it tends to walk away, and thus, like so many of my prize-ed possessions, it too fled to the strange but invigorating comfort of some shoplifter’s pocket.

Devastation! Woe! For my beloved had fled me, never to return. At least, until I bought a new one from AutoZone.

Indeed, once-more I was be-struck with woe! For so it was that AutoZone, whom I had come to trust, had ordained to discontinue my beloved, never to return to their stock. Nary a knife left in the town to be found. Tragedy! Lamentation! Woe!

But in my darkest hour, a brilliant light split the dark skies, and from it Amazon descended unto me and said, “Do not fear or dismay, Child of Bezos, for we have come to redeem you from this dark place, and provide unto you once-more your beloved knife, with free shipping through Prime.”

Rejoice, did I, at the marvel of holding my beloved in my excessively large and masculine hands once-more, and only mere days later! The marvel!

It’s every ounce the knife I remember, and just as sharp as the day we first met.

For those of you living in this century,

I love this knife enough to buy it again after losing it. I got it at AutoZone, lost it, and couldn’t find it again anywhere so I turned to Amazon and there it was. A whole 2 dollars cheaper than AutoZone too! So I slammed that checkout button and Amazon slapped that puppy in a box and dispatched it expediently as we are so accustom to.

Happy to report the quality is consistent with the last one I had. Nice wooden grips with a lovely reddish brown color, black frame and blade, belt clip which can be mounted on either side, and a good sized little knob for extending the blade.

My experience with the past knife was that the frame lock was solid, the blade kept and edge well, although I did regularly sharpen it as I’d be using it for far more reasonable things like cutting cardboard at work and it would dull regularly as would any knife. I liked it because it kept a usable edge longer than my other knives and has a bigger blade that isn’t too thick.

I have big hands and this is a bigger than average sized pocketknife – accordingly it takes up a bit more space in the pocket and carries a bit more heft than your typical pocket knife, but I like that about it. It’s what makes it beautiful to me, and you can take that to the bank.

I did notice the edges wearing from black to silver but frankly, I felt it made it look cool, like a discarded gun used by John Wick to avenge his dead puppy. meanwhile the wood grips showed no wear and only minimal wearing off of the black finish occurred at the tip of the blade. I also sharpened it regularly as I used it for work and it would get dull just like any knife forced to cut cardboard for a while, but it held a blade a bit longer than my smaller knives so I liked that too.

10/10 so nice I bought it twice

I hope it doesn’t get stolen again, I don’t know if I can carry that on my soul at this point..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. I got the knife and it won’t close. I watched the video but it didn’t help. Any ideas?

All of these knives seem to come from the factory overly tightened. I’ve got 14 knives in my collection and on all of them I’ve had to back out the pivot screw, put a few drops of Tetra gun oil or EWL 2000 on the pivot post and then tighten the pivot screw back in a little at a time. While doing this, I’d check the operation of the blade to make sure it’s easy to open and close, but doesn’t wobble from side to side. The more I opened and closed it, the easier it got.

2. How long is the blade itself?

BLADE LENGTH: 87 ММ (3,42″)

3. What country is it made in

It is designed in Ukraine, and produced in China. We are working over 15 years with only trusted manufacturers.

4. Is this legal to carry for self-defense in new york?

Google will answer that for you.
Look up what is legal in NY (length, style, etc.), then look at the pics that buyers have posted, and you’ll know.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

B. Andrews says: “I use my pocket knives a lot and really abuse them. This one has a good edge from the factory and a little stropping makes it perfect. It is light weight for the size. The locking mechanism is very secure. It has little to no play in the blade when locked. I’m not a fan of the kind of lock that is used, but it is the standard in this price range. At least they did a good job of implementing it. The belt clip I use on my pocket. It seems substantial enough and it is long enough the knife
has not fallen out yet. The screws are all torx so it can be tightened up as needed.
Overall, I am very happy with the knife and it has become my every day work knife now..
