Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Does this meter take a long time to give results?

The meter gives an immediate reading. I usually wait for a second or two to let it warm up then place it in water.

2. I grow medical marijuana, could I use this meter to get accurate readings from my hydroponic system?

Yes, but not on a continuous basis, spot readings only

3. Can you use a ac/dc adapter instead of a 9 volt battery?

The pH meter came with a 9V battery compartment with a terminal clip for the 9V battery.

No, the unit does not have2.5/2.1mm DC jack.
If you want to use AC-DC 9V adapter, you will need to find an extender cable with 9v battery pack terminal. Important to ensure the polarity orientation and 9v voltage is correct before connecting.

Alternatively, you can use a rechargeable 9v battery and get 2-3 months use before next recharge. This is easier and economical compared to retrofit DC adapter for 9V.

4. What are the probes temperature range? do they have atc? thanks

It does not have automatic temperature control and if you look at manual temperature control charts there is actually almost no modification if the temperature of the fluid is between 59 and 86° Fahrenheit

Would order again…solid unit for my use (aquarium). I recommend buying the extra box of calibrating solutions to make sure you calibrate every couple months. Unit has run more than 48 hours and battery still going strong..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. How often does this pH meter need to be re-calibrated and/or how can I tell when it needs to be re-calibrated?

The manufacturer recommends keeping the device probe in a neutral storage solution; the protective tip case/container actually has a ‘fill’ line for guidance, and it is designed to hold a liquid safely when stored as indicated — If someone uses distilled or deionized water by itself as a storage solution, the salts contained in the probe tip will dissipate and the probe will then need to be replaced–about $25, plus a fine headache trying to get it right. If you are out of storage solution keeping the probe wet somehow is better than dry–but don’t store without the specialized solution for more than a day or so; these are typically $10-$13 for 100ml – 250ml size bottles on Amazon.

2. Can this be used to analyze urine?

Yes, it can tests urine with no problem. You can use the probe cap as a container for the urine.

3. Can anyone confirm if this comes pre calibrated?

The tester has been calibrated before they went out of the factory. But since there is a time gap before they reach our customers, we recommend doing the calibration with the included premixed buffer solutions before your first use.
Thanks for your interest!

4. I will be using this meter once a month. Do I need storage solution for the probe?

Storing the probe in the storage solution helps keep the probe’s sensitivity and accuracy. So it’s a recommended practice. While storing the probe without any solution will not damage the probe, it’s just going to cause the probe to lose its sensitivity and accuracy temporarily. Store the probe in the storage solution again for about 10 minutes, the sensitivity and accuracy can be restored.

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Gary Briggs says: “I am a retired chemist and I highly recommend this meter. It is important to have a unit that can be calibrated. Make sure to rinse the probe with deionized or distilled water after use and always store in a 3 Molar KCl solution. The instructions for calibration are not written clearly so I recommend checking youtube for a video that walks you through the process. You can also purchase pH 7 and pH 4 or pH 10 buffers to use for calibration. The quantity of buffers than come with the meter won’t last indefinetly. You can also make your own
probe storege solution (3 Molar Kcl). Dissolve 225 grams of KCl in 1 liter of water or half that amount in 1 pint of water. Always use distilled or deionized water. If you are looking at pH range of 7 to 4 use those two buffers for a two point calibration. For a range of 7 to 10 use those buffers. For a range of 4 to 10 do a three point calibration with the 3 buffers. I use my meter for checking hydroponics and it has worked well.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. When calibrating, should i wait until the pen reaches the ph the solution should be before i go to the next step. or when the smiley face pops up?

Smiley face. That said, when taking readings, even in the calibration solution, remember to swirl the meter in the solution with some briskness. I found that my pH pen continues to walk down or walk up almost a half a PH point just from swirling it in the solution.

2. Anybody had success using this for fermentation? I’m hoping to find one that’s easy to use/store that I can use for fermenting hot sauces, etc.

I use mine specifically for Horticulture and I have zero experience in fermentation; that said, I believe this will still be a great tool for your purposes.

3. Can this tester be used to test ph for medical / intravenous solutions? i am looking for something that is accurate to ~0.1ph. any experience?

It does measure to the tenth (0.0).The other Apera model PC60, measures to the hundredth (0.00).

I use the PH20 and noticed when making changes to your solution, change down reads fairly quickly. Changes to raise PH reads more slowly, so give it a few minutes to stabilize the reading.

Also I use the 7.0 calibration fluid in the cap when storing between uses.Helps notice if recalibration is needed.
Always rinse and dry probe before storing or testing.

4. I only want to test my drinking water which mfg says 10.5 ph. The cheaper one doesn’t give me the right calibration. Will this work?

Yes. The meter will safely test up to 12ph without risk to the probe’s lifespan. You will need to calibrate with 10.0 ph buffer fluid to ensure best accuracy.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Is this combo meter for soil use?

Fill a dixi cup 3/4th full with soil. Add distilled water (from supermarket or Orchard Supply stores) and mix until you have a paste. Let sit 15 min. then mix again. Squeeze the cup while pinching the sides to let muddy water drip into a clean cup. Use that water for testing. This is a pHs (saturated ) and an ECe (extract) measurements. Common in all soil books. OR yiu can use the back of a pincle to poke a hole in the soil for the pH measurement and squeeze the water for the ECe measurement.

2. How is this meter for plant germination different from the other meter shown.

I don’t believe it is speciically designed for germination and seedlings. It is no less capable of monitoring PH/EC of a fully grown plant as it is a seedling.

3. Will Bluelab honor warranty on units purchased on Amazon.com?

Hello Sean, as long as a receipt shows validity of purchase is within warranty, and meets criteria, yes we will honor Amazon purchased products.

4. can the probes stay completely submerged inside the reservoir at all times?

Technically yes. Although it is not their “guardian” model which I beleive is a wall mounted continuous meter. If you’re running just clean water I’m sure it’s fine. The meter has an auto off function so it won’t be on constantly like other meters. However water with additives will cause build-up on the probe and you will have to clean and calibrate it more frequently which may ultimately decrease the life of the probe. Luckily the mfg adds a compression fitting cap to the end of the pH probe in which you can fill with storage solution to keep your probe clean after each use. So in short, yes you can but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. how much storage solution and calibration solution comes with this? is it something that I could do without initially to get by or plan to buy with it

My advise, buy a solution,, 7.0 and a 4.01.., it does come with a storage solution which is a one time use. If you plan on using your ph meter every week or moreyour gonna want the solution. It’s best to know your ph is on point all the time especially for certain plants.. you can get away with just one solution (7.0), I personal like to use to calibration solutions cause it gives you 2 different readings, that way you know your pen is on point,, some future advise, use 2 shot glasses and pour each cali solution in each,, that way to much isnt wasted in a cup, also if you put plastic wrap or something to top the shot glasses you can use that same solution for up to a month, that way your not constantly pouring new solution in your shot glasses everyday or week. They say you only calibrate once a month, thats false, you calibrate it when it needs it, I have this same pen and its ok, but I have to calibrate it every 2 weeks and I use it twice a week. Thats why its good to have those shot glasses on standby so you dont have to pour and waste more. Oh and when you put in shot glass just make sure it fills up enough to cover the whole rod which should be right above the slit (the opening to the right of the circle shape hole) which is like the halfway mark between the HM logo and bottom. All in all good luck and enjoy

2. what is the range of the ph that this device goes too?

It measures the full range, 1 – 14.

3. will it test my orine? CAUSE i want to test the PH of mine.

WTF is orine? If your testing your urine, then go ahead and pee in a cup and test it out.

4. Is it normal for crystals to be on one of the electodes brand new out of the package? Should I try and clean it?

yes its normal just soak pen and they will go away

TOP 1000 REVIEWER says: “If you have read any of my other reviews on PH (and EC) meters I have purchased, you’ll know it has been a real frustration point for me to find a good one. I purchased three other PH meters from various manufacturers and none of them were dependably accurate and none could be calibrated easily if at all. They all cost around the same ($10-$20) operated about the same and appeared to all be built in the same factory but just branded differently and the housings were slightly different. For the most part they were clones. Even the instructions that came

with the units were almost identical. The reviews were mixed too so it was pretty much a crap shoot.

I finally decided to up the ante and spend a little more money (actually over two times as much), in the hopes I could finally find a reliable and easy to use model. I had already purchased an EC meter from HM Digital for the same reasons, and it has proven to be worth the extra money so I decided to try a PH meter from the same company. So far I have experienced the same positive results and have been using the meter for over two months.

The meter operates very similar to the other models but is clearly not built in the same factory – the instruction sheet is a clear indication of that. It’s much more detailed and actually makes sense when you go through the steps to use or re-calibrate the unit. The best part is the ability to easily re-calibrate the meter. The process is so simple compared to the cheap units that I find myself calibrating it more often which is a good thing. Other models required the use of three different test solutions to calibrate them and the required steps are about as kludgy as you can imagine. This unit requires one calibration solution and it is recommended to use one that is near the range you’ll be measuring for most often. In my case it’s the 7.0 solution.

It comes with a nice cap that allows the unit to stand on end for storage. It also comes with a small amount of electrode storage solution (which I did not even know you needed until I purchased this one), that you use in the cap to keep the sponge moist which protects the electrode. I have since purchased a larger bottle of the solution from HM Digital so I can store it properly for a long time. I use this meter almost daily and am very pleased to finally have a PH meter I can rely on. It is easily worth the price.

If you are reading this it’s probably because you have not been able to find a decent PH meter, or maybe it’s your first one. Either way, if you need a good accurate PH meter that is easy to use and re-calibrate, don’t waste your time and money with the cheap models. Spend the extra money now and save yourself the frustrations I went through.

I highly recommend this meter. It’s the best you can get in the price range in my opinion and I have the experience to back up this review.

Oh and one final note – I think I read somewhere it was made in Korea but assembled in the US where the others were all from China…but I don’t know this for sure. It’s definitely not a clone like the other cheap models..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Does this meter comes with ph/orp probe ?

Hello,
Thank you for your inquiry. Yes MW101 comes complete with base unit / electrode ( SE220 / 9v battery / starter 7.01 & 4.01 calibration solution.
Thank you,
Commercial Bargains Inc.

2. So, you don’t get a little packet of pH 4.01 or storage solution? Is it precalibrated? You can’t calibrate with just 7.01

You get a small pack of both 4.01 & 7.01, and you use one for range, and the other for zero, there are 2 screws, use both.

3. How many calibration points/screws does it have? Or is calibration adjusted with buttons? Thanks

It has 2 point calibration (4.01 and 7.01/10.01) via 2 recessed set screws. The unit comes with a flat head precision screwdriver for adjustments. If you use it for homebrewing as I do, You’ll need 4.01 and 7.0 calibration solution and I recommend getting probe storage solution as well.

4. How can you tell when it’s time to replace the probe?

We replace them when it won’t read our calibration solutions correctly
Ph 4.0 and 7.0

R. Mesnard says: “Order arrived with a defective base unit. Display showed “1 .” regardless of whether the probe was installed or not. Dealing with customer support at Milwaukee was a complete pleasure. I was given an RMA number after a very brief conversation, and a new unit was in my hands in a matter of a few days. The new base and probe work perfectly. I’ve always said you’re not measured by the mistakes you make, but by how you handle those mistakes. Milwaukee is top notch in my book.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Can Someone take the TIME – to explain exactly what to do with this Thing -I’m very elderly and don’t understand – my meter has readings all over !

First you have to calibrate it to be sure you’re getting accurate readings. Mix the packets that came with the meter each in 250ml of DISTILLED WATER. I use a clean glass jar (previously held tomato sauce) once you have your solutions (4.0, 6.86 and 9.18) turn on the meter insert it into the 6.86 solution HOLD IT STILL AND WAIT FOR THE READING TO STABALIZE(meaning the reading might still change a little but it slows down and hovers around a certain value. If you can count more than 5 seconds and the reading hasnt change You NAILED IT!) now hold CAL button for a couple seconds until Cal appears then release the CAL button ( it will show you the off reading then it will adjust and say “6.86” then “SA”) Clean the electrode in Distilled water and repeat this process for 4.0 and 9.18 solutions it will say “END” when all is finished. Now you are ready to test, simply turn on and hold it still in whatever you are testing and dont forget to hold still until readings stabilize (usually 10 to 20 seconds). ps the “hold” button is for when you cant see the display as in a dark bucket, just count to 15 then press hold and you will have an accurate reading

2. Does the elctrode need to be stored in kcl solution? what kind?

After each use, please confirm whether the sponge in the electrode protective cover is wet. If not, please drop in an appropriate amount of pH 4.0 solution in time. If you have not used the pH meter for a long time and forget to add PH4.0 buffer to the sponge, please put the composite electrode into the pH4.0 buffer or tap water for more than 24H before use, and then calibrate and use it.

3. Why does the cap contained some condensation?

To be clear, the best way to destroy your pH probe is to store it in water, like the other answers recommend.

You need to store it in a 30% potassium chloride solution. Go to your grocery store and buy salt substitute. Comes in a blue container and says “Nu-salt” on the label. The ingredient should be potassium chloride.

Take a container that measures 100 mL, add 30g of potassium chloride and fill up to the 100 mL line with distilled water. That’s what you store it in.

4. What is the accuracy rating? I see the precision is 0.01, but what is the accuracy? That could be very different.

If you calibrate it before it is used then it seems to be reliable to .02

Amazon Customer says: “I bought this ph meter for indoor hydroponics. Calibration was simple and straight forward. The meter was easy to use and seemed accurate and consistent. Much better than the cheap $10 meters. I ended up breaking the glass electrode 2 months after purchase… (the probe is nicely protected but i still managed to smack it against a hard surface) I emailed the manufacturer looking to purchase a replacement electrode. They answer quickly and said they can’t supply a replacement part but would like to send me a brand new replacement meter, for free, no questions asked. (just needed the original order
