Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Would this be ok for me, I am five ft two inches ?

I’m 5’4″, and I can ride it just fine.

2. Can I ride this bike on the road?

I rode this bike all over St. Simons Island one summer. It did well for me on the road and on the sand. I’m not a “cyclist” but this bike met my needs and I like it so much, I bought one for my daughter.

3. What is the recommended height for this bike?

I’m not sure if there’s an actual recommended height, but I’m 5’4″ and can ride it just fine. If I raised the seat, my husband, who is 6’4″, could probably ride it.

4. I’m 5’2” is it too big?

My daughter is 5’2” and she can ride it, but it is big for her. She’s still growing and really likes it, so I went ahead and bought her one as well.

It is way better looking than I was expecting. Love the coloring! Love the size! My husband is an Avid biker and is really impressed with this bikes components. He says that for the money and for someone starting out this is an excellent beginner bike and if I decide to really step up into the bike world we will jump to a custom bike for me.

I was super stoked to see they added a kickstand also! I know this is a bit dumb but it wasn’t supposed to have one. The seat is a bit uncomfortable but I’m understanding that is a common thing with mountain bikes. They tend to be more slender for a lighter weight. His bike is very light and super easy to handle. All around I highly recommend this product..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. is this bike okay for someone 5’1”? somewhere I read 700c wheels means 29 in, i can ride 26″ bike comfortably, but not 28″. Thanks.

If you are 5’1″, this may be too large of a bike for you but each user has a different preference/comfort level.Schwinn Discover Women’s Hybrid Bike (700C Wheels) model S5397 has an 18″ frame according to the manufacturer.700c wheels are different than a 29″ wheel. For the casual bike riders, most individuals use the size (diameter) of the wheels: 20″, 24″, 26″etc to make the selection of the bike they wish to purchase. Bikes measured this way have frames designed relative to the tire size, so the larger the tire, the larger the frame. Some bike manufacturers may use a simple overall bike measurement such as x-small, small, medium, large, x-large; the bike size is usually on a sticker somewhere on the frame on other brands. ( note:Only the custom bikes from Schwinn are sized xs, small, med, large or xl though and this is not a ‘custom bike’) The manufacturer may label the bikes Boy’s, Men’s, Girl’s, Women/Ladies however, they are not only meant for younger or older individuals. The rider will need to go by their height/inseam size. Keep in mind that for the 700c series road and hybrid bikes, the rim is larger in diameter so it will bring this frame higher up. These type of bikes(700c wheeled and hybrid) may be better suited for an individual 5′ 7″ and taller. Someone of a small stature may have a difficult time riding the bike comfortably.Riding a bicycle that is not correctly sized to the rider may result in the rider’s feet not being able to touch the ground and balance the bicycle, properly reach the handlebar for steering or braking, and loss of control when pedaling. This sizing below is just a general guideline for some Schwinn bikes. It is always best to be professionally measured to find the best fit/size if unsure.Bike Wheel Size Your Approx. 2. I am a senior wanting to ride for fitness, trips to the grocery store, around town carrying light camera gear for nature shots is the bike 4 me?

I am 70 and do exactly that.I bungie cord a plastic basket on the back and carry milk etc 4 miles one way from the grocery store. The 21 speeds are great because I ride into the wind and ride back in much higher gear. It came mostly assembled and needed no adjustment.Keep the tires at 60 PSI and it flies and will outrun a younger person with balloon tires.I have had it for 1 1/2 years and ride it everywhere. Do change the seat to a cloud 9 one for comfort. Get it you won’t regret it.

3. im a man only 5 2 in. will this bike be to tall to ride?

Though I don’t own this bike, in my opinion, this will not be a good fit fora 5′ 2″ man (I am of that height). You will need a small frame (15″ or lower)bike. Some700C bikes come in that small frame but would require some research. Probably you can ride this bike, but for safety reasons better to look for a small frame bike. The critical aspectis the top tube height. You should be able to straddle the bike without your crotch hitting the top tube. For a ladies bike, itshouldn’t be a problem as the top tube is shaped differently.

4. Can you sit straight up like a cruiser? How are the handle bars swept back?

No, you cannot sit straight up like on a cruiser bike. The handle bars can be adjusted, but they will not allow you to be positioned without bending over a bit. It can get tiring at a point but not so bad that you will have back pain. I just let go of one side of the handle bars and sit upright to stretch my back. I also changed the seat which makes the bend and ride bearable. You are sitting up and bending over slightly at the same time. It’s a good smooth riding bike. No problem shifting gears or braking.I really enjoy riding it. Hope this hepls everyone.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. hi I am 6-2 would I be able to ride this bike comfortably

I am 6′ tall and am comfortable riding this bike. Considering that your knees should be slightly bent at the bottom of your pedal stroke, I still have sufficient seat height and handle bar adjustment to set the bike up for a taller rider. Make sure you slide the seat forward or backward so that your knee is centered over the pedal axle at the top of the pedal stroke as well. Tip the seat up or down to minimize seat pressure on your most tender parts. Tipping the seat downward in front just a bit will also tip your pelvis forward for a more comfortable ride. Balance this off with the handle bar height to reduce pressure on your hands and wrists. If the bar is too low, you will tip forward and put too much pressure on your hands and wrists

2. How much does the bike weigh with fenders and rear rack? What is the frame material? Steel?

The bike is made of aluminum. Not steel as some people say here. Only steel frame part is front fork. Even seat post is aluminum pipe. Handle bar is aluminum as well.

3. I am only 5 foot tall. Could I put my feet on the pavement when stopped?

I believe so. The seat is adjustable and the bar between the seat and handle bars loops down like a traditional woman’s or girls bike allowing you to stand when stopped.

4. Does the bike fold small enough to travel on an airline as checked baggage? (Transported inside a case or box.)

I just ordered one and will try to check it in for a flight to Europe. As I have time for 2 weeks to find a perfect size box that will protect the folded bike and make sure I come to the US with only carry on luggage so this will be my only bag to check-in. In case the dimensions cannot be checked in I can still ship it via USPS or courier. So we will see what I can come up with. I will be in Florida for 2 week where I would love to use it before taking it to Europe where its main use will be to load it on to the train as the regular bikes need a train ticket and the folded ones if packed in the bag are is free :)Does anybody know the exact measure of the shipping box it comes in? I would love to do some research before coming to the US for a sturdy box which could fit the checked bag dimensions hopefully. Thanks.

If you want a solid basic 20’ foldable bike with commuter features: this is the one.
Ok. It’s 33 pounds but for under $220 dollars you get fenders, carrier, 7 speeds and storage bag. Some $500 plus bikes claim 21 pounds add gears, fenders, carrier and you have 27 pounds or so and add a bag to $800-$2800. 6 pounds- it not a race bike, buy the wife and family one or take the wife or girlfriend on vacation or buy stock in amazon.
In the 1960’s I owned a Schwinn two speed hub a solid bike and dependable.
This 20” foldable feel solid and has a double lock on the frame fold. I use it in a hilly island to commute 1 or so miles each way to work and short 8 mile hilly rides to the beach.
I added-a front basket and rear bag and a $9 dollar LED light kit. I use a 6’ master bike lock to secure both wheels and frame to the bike rack. If you dress for work you need fenders. If your neighbor back washes his BBQ grill into the road without fenders you wear it to work. Unbeatable value, many standard features, easy to ride and easy to add options you need.
I looked at foldable bikes from $109 to $6,700 dollars and could not beat the value. Yes, the $6,700 weighed only 14 pounds,16” wheels and nothing else. Try riding it on a rough road, rain and no lights, holding your groceries in one hand and wearing BBQ grease.
Hope this was helpful Ken.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. What is the advantage or disadvantage to a 24″ VS 26″ ?

I had also wondered about this and was told that because I have low back pain it would be better to get the 24″ because the handles were higher and there would be less ‘reaching’ bending over that I would have to do with the 26″ -And I am almost 5’6″- But I’ve not bought one yet because I would prefer to ‘check’ one out first.hope this helps someone.

2. What is the rider weight limit on the 26″ Meridian Cruiser Tricycle?

weight 280lb

3. A reviewer indicated the brake was faulty, unless I misunderstood. Has anyone else had brake issues? I am a 4′ 10″ senior and need stability.

Ive owned 5 of these and never had a brake problem. You need the 24 inch version rather than the 26 inch.

4. can i put an additional basket on the front?

The original Question-Asker no longer needs an answer; but other readers may. Adding a basket on the front is not a problem. Bear in mind, however, that this trike steers by turning the handle bar, not by leaning, as with a bicycle. A heavy load in the front basket could make steering awkward.

Kindle Reader

VINE VOICE says: “I bought this bike after reading every single review, both positive and negative. I even took the step of ordering the bike from Amazon’s Warehouse Deals. I paid a very reasonable price. I am a 52 year old woman who does not really have a lot of mechanical experience, but it was a beautiful day when the bike arrived. I got my iced tea and sat on my porch with the box and spent a leisurely afternoon figuring it out. With only a little help from my husband and son (mostly to just confirm I did something correctly) I was able

to assemble the bike. I’m glad I did, too, because now, adjustments make more sense to me…I know the parts and understand how they work and fit together.

That said, if you are just hoping for a quick experience putting it together, you may want to get help or pay a bike shop. I rate the bike 5 stars because I love the style and I think it was a GREAT value. It seems to be working well. But for the sake of those who read reviews, here are some notes that might help you.

–The color: I read a lot of reviews that complained that they were hoping for a more BLUE bike. This should be called “Ice Blue” or something like that, not Slate, because the bike is really a silvery blue not a darker color like I would think Slate would be.

–Packaging: I ordered from Amazon Warehouse Deals, which said the item would be repackaged, so I expected that. The large box it came in was not TOO badly roughed up from shipping, but when I opened it, the inner box that was holding all the bike parts was fairly frightening. Torn spots, dents in the cardboard, etc. From reading a lot of reviews about dents, I wonder if shipping is just really hard on this. Mine came basically double boxed. I wonder if someone returned it because of the condition of the original box! The original box did not appear to ever have been opened and resealed? Anyway, I probably got lucky, but my guess is this is a shipping issue and perhaps unavoidable when you have parts, like fenders, that are easily bent out of shape.

–Assembly: Yeah, there were a few head scratching moments where I had to look at the diagram, re-read and THINK, but I figured them out. I saw a YouTube video of a guy who was pretty mechanical and putting this bike together for one of his parents and he had pretty much the same issues I had! I used (after googling!) Vicks VapoRub for grease for the handlebar stem and it is working great. Did have to laugh at the whiff of menthol I got just before my second ride on it, when I adjusted the handlebars. Vaseline would work too if you don’t have a tube of grease that they call for. I confirmed with a mechanical friend that this will be no problem, we’re not dealing with high temperatures or huge amounts of friction. I had to really work to get fenders lined up to the holes for the bolts that hold them on, then I had to bend them into shape a little to keep them from rubbing. This is no big deal to me, but if it is to you, you’re forewarned. If you can’t find the stem for the seat, look inside the hole in the frame, lots of people think they don’t have one then find it there! Brakes might take a while to get them adjusted properly. If any of this really doesn’t sound like something you want to mess with then definitely find a handier friend or take it to a bike shop for assembly. I didn’t mind the tweaking.

–Riding: THIS IS DIFFERENT THAN A TWO WHEEL BIKE! You have to really remember this or you may think something is wrong when it is not. If you learned to ride a two wheel bike, you instinctively *lean* to keep balance. Leaning on this bike is not necessary and may even make your sensation of being off balance WORSE. You *might* even want to lean OUT of a turn (the opposite direction) a tiny bit! I did feel a bit wonky on this trike at first, but I just took a deep breath and tried to remember that this was different. Much better as time goes on! Also, the road where I live is slightly graded to allow rain to runoff so if I’m riding on the road, I realize that it is going to feel off balance. I only take the road for a short while, then I am on the rails-to-trails near our home. That too is ever-so-slightly graded for runoff, but I can work with it better there. If the trail is clear, I just take my spot up the middle and my fellow bikers let me know they are coming with a friendly call or ring of their bell and I move over. 🙂

–Mount/Dismount: At first, I kept whacking the back of my legs with the back wheels. Just needed to get in the habit of remembering that unlike a 2 wheel bike, I have to watch for them.

–Seat: I’m a middle aged woman with an ample middle aged figure. The seat is just *okay* for me but since I got such a nice price on the bike, I don’t feel badly about seeking out a wider, more comfortable seat. Until switching the seat, I only had gone about 3 miles at a time to avoid a sore posterior.

If you want a flawless, seamless experience to get up and running, look elsewhere or get professional help to assemble and fine tune. If you’re willing to deal with a few little issues, you’ll have a great trike at a great price..

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Ana Eleonor says: “First impressions: It is easy to assemble, the breaks are very nice and the body of the bycicle has a good quality overall. I’m 5’3″ woman, my weight is around 153 lbs and my inseam is 30”, this size is perfect for me. I think these measurements might help someone, because I had to go through a lot of comments to get an idea if this bike had the height that suited me better. It is heavier than I was expecting, but I can lift it without too much effort. I will probably change the seat because I would like one
that feels more cushioned.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. I’m 5’2″ would this bike fit me?

Whether this bike would fit /work for you or not is somewhat of a matter of opinion and personal choice. The S4023D Ladies Wayfarer (Mint) hybrid bike has 700c wheels. They do not have a max weight limit, however, they field test those bicycles for up to 250 pounds. (Only the custom bikes from this manufacturer are sized xs, small, med, large or xl , and these are not custom bikes)The manufacturer may label the bikes Boy’s, Men’s, Girl’s, Women/Ladies however, they are not only meant for younger or older individuals. The rider will need to go by their height/inseam size. Keep in mind that for the 700c series road and hybrid bikes, the rim is larger in diameter so it will bring this frame higher up. These type of bikes (700c wheeled and hybrid) may be better suited for an individual 5′ 7″ and taller. Someone of a small stature may have a difficult time riding the bike comfortably. Each user may have a different personal preference though. 2. What does it mean by hybrid

Hybrid bicycles blend characteristics from more specialized road bikes, touring bikes and mountain bikes. The resulting “hybrid” is a general-purpose bike that can tolerate a wide range of riding conditions and applications. Hope this is helpful

I just finished assembling this bike and took it for a spin around the neighborhood. I have to say this bike exceeded my expectations in most every respect.
Let me start by saying that this the ninth bicycle in my current stable and the least expensive by far; I have owned dozens of bikes over the years. Two of my current bikes cost over $3k. I have been a bike geek my entire life and worked as a professional bike mechanic in younger years. I feel as though I have a good perspective from which to judge bicycle quality. I was attracted to this bike’s apparent value and traditional styling, and I was not disappointed.
The bike is a steel frame, seven speed derailleur bicycle with an upright riding position. It has no-name components, except the Shimano derailleur and freewheel. Cost-saving parts include an Ashtabula (one piece cast steel) crank and chainring, a steel seatpost and seat clamp, and steel handlebars. The generic quill stem, rims, hubs, linear-pull brakes, and brake levers are aluminum alloy. The Shimano derailleur appears to be stamped steel, though I haven’t confirmed for sure. The included rack is also chromed steel. The sturdy fenders appear to be brushed aluminum with steel brackets. Even with these heavy steel components, the bike does not feel particularly heavy. The steel frame is cleanly welded, with standard diameter tubing on all except a slightly oversized downtube. It has a nice looking paint job and even has some subtle pinstriping and lettering on the top of the top tube. The front wheel has a quick release, while the rear hub is bolt-on.
Although they call this a hybrid bicycle, to me it seems to be a classic English touring bike, right down to the coil spring seat and swept-back handlebars. The seven speed gearing covers a moderate range, adequate for flat to moderately hilly terrain. Don’t expect mountain bike gearing. The freewheel is 14-28 teeth, not a super-wide range but adequate for casual cycling on paved roads or firmly packed trails. I didn’t count the chainring teeth. The only nod to hybrid elements is a slightly sloping top tube which belies the frame’s more modern origins. Otherwise the layout and ride is very much like English touring bikes of the 1960’s and 1970’s (think black Raleigh three speed, but with some alloy updates).
The bike was easily assembled, but there were a few adjustments needed that might befuddle or elude someone without experience. The bottom bracket bearings were way too tight, the headset was slightly loose, the front wheel need some minor truing, and the linear-pull brakes needed some typical adjustments – centering, adjusting brake pad alignment, cable tension. In contrast, the gearing and hubs on my unit needed no adjustments out of the box. If you do not have experience assembling bicycles, I recommend paying a professional to assemble the bike for it to reach its full potential. The brakes feel mushy compared to modern high quality hydraulic disc brakes, but once properly adjusted they had no difficulty locking up the rear wheel or quickly stopping the bike. In this price range I think the brakes are above average. The grip-shift, seven-speed gearing was crisp and quiet.
Once assembled, the bike has a solid, smooth, quiet ride, if somewhat “vintage” in its feel. The riding position is very upright with just some very slight forward lean. There is not a lot of space between the seat and the backswept handlebars, which is fine if you are not expecting a racing position. The bike seems to encourage taking one’s time and looking around to enjoy the ride. It feels efficient, and secure though not what I would call “nimble.” I think this would make a great bike for a college campus, paved trails, and urban commuting for short to moderate distances. That said, I have seen people ride all kinds of bikes on all kinds of surfaces and terrain.
I am 6′ 0″ tall and weigh 195 pounds. The bike was very comfortable for me, and I have the bike in about the middle of its height adjustment range. I estimate the bike would be suitable for people around 5’9″ to 6′ 2″ with adjustments to the stem and seat height. Stored with reasonable protection from the weather, and basic regular maintenance (adjustment, air in the tires, regular lubing the chain and pivot points), this bike should last many, many years..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. I‘m 5’3”, if i ride the 26” wheel bike can my feet touch the ground when i sit on this bike? Thank you for helping.

***General Information from the manufacturer regarding sizes of most bikes from them*** For the casual bike riders, most individuals use the size (diameter) of the wheels: 20″, 24″, 26″etc to make the selection of the bike they wish to purchase. Here is some other info we have obtained from the manufacturer awhile back ; The manufacturer may label the bikes Boy’s, Men’s, Girl’s, Women/Ladies however, they are not only meant for younger or older individuals. The rider will need to go by their height/inseam size. For example: An individual that is 64″ (5’4″) may need a 24″ wheeled bike. It is really personal preference what someone may be comfortable with. Some might not care if their feet dangle and cant touch the ground when sitting on the seat, but others may not like it. Riding a bicycle that is not correctly sized to the rider may result in the rider’s feet not being able to touch the ground and balance the bicycle, properly reach the handlebar for steering or braking, and loss of control when pedaling. 2. How does this bike do on small hills with the gearing? It would be rode in a subdivision however there are small hills

Should do fine. Gear shift is effortless with a small twist of the wrist on the handlebar mounted changer, chain slides to new sprocket and you keep peddling. I have experienced no problems.

3. In the picture, the color looks liek a true turquoise, is that the actual color?

Yes the color was turquoise, but I do not recommend purchasing this bike.
We bought it for our daughter for Christmas and had to return it. The fenders came banged up and the front tire was bent.
On a positive note, the return was easy.

4. Hi! Is it too difficult to assemble?

Easy to assemble. Don’t waste your time. Its a piece of junk.

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Kindle Customer says: “Found the Schwinn Legacy cruiser at Target, fully assembled. I was attracted by the awesome vintage look and the fact that it’s a single speed cruiser with coaster brakes (brakes that operate by pedaling backward) like the bikes I had as a kid. Exactly what I wanted as an adult who hasn’t ridden a bike in a couple of decades, and wants to get one for fitness and for cutting back on use of my car for things like grocery shopping. It didn’t hurt that it had the lowest price tag of Target’s cruiser bikes, either. I absolutely love my Legacy!

I absolutely love my Legacy! It rides well and is a great workhorse. I’ve gotten compliments on the vintage look. Only issue I had was that I had to borrow an allen wrench from a co-worker so I could tighten the handlebars, but that’s hardly the bike’s fault. Big box store employees who assemble these bikes most likely aren’t bicycle experts, so it’s a good idea to give the bike a good once-over before going for your first spin on it.

For what it is – an inexpensive, basic cruiser – the Legacy is an awesome bike..
