Its canister is installed and removed without tools thanks to the large, ergonomic knobs that are easy to handle. Plus, four heavy-duty casters make for easy mobility around the workshop. Benefits Behind the Technology First and foremost, the Vortex Cone technology eliminates filter clogging, which in turn improves ease of use, strengthens performance quality, and extends the lifespan of the machine.

It dramatically advances chip-separation efficiency in single-stage dust collectors, and it aids quick fallout of chips into the collector bag. Fewer bag changes are required because of the reduction in violent airflows that increases packing effectiveness. Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Is this considered a cyclonic dust collector system? I see it’s advertised as a “vortex cone” but now sure if that means the same thing.

When I here the phrase “cyclonic dust collector system”, that typically means a dual stage dust collection system that has a cyclone separator for it’s first stage. This unit is not a dual stage dust collection system, but a single stage dust collector that has the new “Vortex Cone” in it that separates the lower dust collection bag from the upper filter media. The “Vortex Cone” simply helps to keep the larger dust particles down in the lower bag instead of allowing them to climb up to the filter media to clog it up quicker.

2. what’s the CFM rating?

I believe that the CFM is 1100, but that is without air restrictions such as dirty filter, pipes, hose fittings, etc. The restrictions add up when you change the size of pipe, length of pipe. The suction at the end of hose decreases dramatically when it gets to 1-1/4 . The dust collectow is capable of running two machines at once, given that the dust port is no smaller than 2″ or greater. It will do 1-1/2 fairly good. Tried on some sanders that had small dust ports like 1-1/4 to 1″, didn’tdo well. I wouldn’t go any smaller than 1-1/4. Might have to go 2″ to 1-1/4 or smaller with short fittings to avoid loss of suction.

3. The cannister gets clogged with fine dust so I give it a thorough cleaning with my shop vac. Can this filter be washed with water?

I would not recommend it. If you spin the filter handles as recommended you shouldn’t have to clean out the filter very often. Maybe once every other bag or so depending on what you are doing.

4. Can you take off the dual 4″ port and run a bigger main line?

In my experience as a custom cabinet maker I’ve noticed the cfm of the 2 4″ ports together is about the same as (in my case with a shop fox) when you remove it and use a 6″ port. Though covering one of the 4 inch ports while not as powerful as the 6 inch port it is stronger suction than than leaving both open. That being said. It’s really 6 in one. Half a dozen the other.

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

MTC says: “I ordered this for my son for Christmas to add to his workshop to help manage dust being created from his planer, jointer and table-saw. He had been using a shopvac but that was not very efficient to manage the amount of dust his planer was making. We put the unit together the other day and I would highly recommend two people doing it as there are a couple of steps in the assembly process that would be very challenging to do by yourself. Overall it goes together very easily, took us about 1 hour and the instructions were very clear.
Once we had it together we plug it in and turned it on and wow what a difference compared to the shop vac. Very good suction and the unit is actually much quieter than I expected, more of a humming type sound vs. the high pitch sound of the shop vac. The two inlets are nice as well. This unit is very heavy duty, the filter works great and the storage bags (4 included) are very thick so I think you will be able to reuse them if you wanted to. Jet really makes a great product here. So if your an avid woodworking looking for a reasonably priced dust collection system I highly recommend this one.If you found this review helpful please let me know by pressing the helpful button below. Style:Dust Collector Are you ready to get more from your dust collector? The Cyclone Dust Collector Collection from JET delivers the efficiency you’ve been waiting for. With a direct mount filter, a radio frequency remote control and a large collection bin these dust collectors take your shop’s capabilities to a new level. Upgrade to a JET Cyclone Dust Collector and experience The Power of Efficiency.

Jet JCDC-2 2 hp Cyclone Dust Collector

  • The cyclone’s two stage separation provides more working CFM than comparable horsepower single stage units
  • Heavy debris is pulled down to collection drum before debris stream reaches the filter, providing constant suction
  • Direct mounted filter eliminates inefficiencies from ridged flex hosing and bends
  • Fine dust particles are filtered through pleated material that captures even the smallest particles down to 1 micron and below
  • Heavy debris is captured in a 30 gallon drum with quick release levers and independent casters for quick emptying
Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Is 2 hp sufficent for planner, table saw, jointer and sander or i buy 3 hp ? Any advise will be higly appriciated.

Go with the 3 hp- I haven’t unpacked my 2 hp because since I ordered it, I also upgraded some machines.
I prob have a 20′ run for ducting so figuring the Xtra hp wouldn’t hurt

2. Does anyone see fine dust that is getting thru the filter?

Yes I have 4 of these And dust is escaping from the accordion attachment to the lid. I have not had these a year and I have to now order the new accordion replacements and all four and having trouble finding the plastic bags that attached to the overflow filter.

3. Can you put a bag in the 30 gallon drum?

Yes

4. what is the measured decible rating for this machine?

Haven’t measured it myself, but pretty quiet for such a large machine. According to User guide, it’s 76dB @ 3 meters. Mine is closer than that in most use cases, and definitely seems louder than the spec.

A review of my new Jet 2 HP DC. I decided to make it a two part review. First covering shipping, crating and assembly, then after actual use review its performance. Rather than delay the first part and forget or leave out my impressions I will complete part one and update later.
Shipping: I ordered using my Amazon account (nothing could be easier) on Monday (1/25/16) and it was delivered on Friday morning. (5 star). Delivery another 5 star (ABF frieght) called on Thursday to schedule and I told them to bring it out and they did the next morning. The driver called to alert me that he would be at my house in 20 minutes. I have a tractor with a front end loader with forks. He opened the doors and I picked it up. No more than 5 minutes. At first I thought it was the wrong unit. The crate was so small, but I verified the information on the box and signed for the delivery. Crating another 5 star, I can’t imagine how they could have reduced the size or squeezed everything into a smaller package. The crate had NO damage, not even a scratch. Everything was put in an orderly and logical fashion. Large Styrofoam blocks surrounded the main housing and the frames were neatly packed into the exterior of the Styrofoam. Assembly (another 5 star) removing everything was logical for verifying the contents and comparing it against the parts list in the manual. It broke down into manageable pieces with the heavy motor and impeller unit alone on the pallet. Following the instruction manual step by step I assembled the unit in about 3 hours. I did not hurry and verified each step. (More than once in the past I have had to take things apart and start over and did not want to make any mistakes). The manual warns that attaching the motor and impeller unit to the frame is a two man job. I guarantee that is a minimum requirement. I had the tractor and front end loader and it was very simple for me. I just lifted it a little over 6 feet up and rolled the completed frame under and took my time attaching them together. Warning – you can’t do this part without a hoist, lift or two helpers. The biggest problem I encountered was fitting the accordion boot or tube that connects .

7. Shop Fox W1826 Wall Dust Collector, 2.5 Micron Filtration

Style:2.5 Micron Filter Bag This wall mounted Dust Collector is designed to capture dust right at the source, eliminating the reduced efficiency of a duct system. With 537 CFM capacity, it will handle just about any hungry woodworking machine, and with no complicated duct system, static pressure loss is minimal. A simple wall mounted bracket and locking screw system also ensures you’ll be safely up and running in no time!

Shop Fox W1826 Wall Dust Collector, 2.5 Micron Filtration

  • 1-horsepower motor, 120 or 240V, prewired at 120V, 7 amp at 110V, 3.5 amp at 240V
  • Features window to gauge how much dust is in bag and bottom zipper for easy dust disposal
  • Single 4-inch intake hole
  • 2.5 Micron bag has 2 cubic feet capacity
  • 44-inch height with bag inflated
Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. could this be hooked up to a cyclone for better performance?

Yes, even a basic homemade chip separator would improve performance.

2. Is a cyclone-type separator recommended with this unit, or is it not needed?

An additional cyclone is not needed. Adding one will however reduce the frequency at which you have to empty the bag.

3. Does the W1826 come with the cannister filter? The pictures for this item show it both with and without it. The description is equally vague.

Comes with filter bag only with zipper on bottom of bag. Works great for me. I don’t remove bag, just unzip and dump into plastic trash bag. I’ve found the dust collector to work very well with my sawstop.

4. Is the impeller plastic or metal

METAL

Installed and in use for two weeks, I am very satisfied with this purchase. It has made a huge difference in the cleanliness of my shop compared to my old “adapt Shop Vac to my power tools” method.

The suction is just fine – Not sure what other folks were trying to suck up that caused them to complain, It is after all a DUST collector (does well with chips and shavings too), not a “shop vac”.

MUCH quieter than my shop vac as well which is a huge thing when one has it running for extended periods.

UPDATE: Both my thickness planer and my jointer cause the intake to clog with shavings and render the collector ineffective. This is because there is a safety cage at the inlet that traps larger shavings causing the clog. The cage appears to be there primarily to keep you from putting your hand into the impeller while the machine is running, and secondarily to prevent very large objects from entering and damaging the impeller. Both situations are undesirable and easily preventable.

If you never run the collector without a hose attached and never try to use it as anything other than a dust collector attached to a machine (i.e. don’t use it as a “shop vac”), you can safely work around the problem (although I’m sure the mfr would not recommend this).

The cage is easily snipped away with tin snips. I’ve never had a problem with it sucking in as many shavings at as high a rate as my machines have been able to produce since doing this.

Just remember to NEVER run the collector without a hose attached and NEVER use it for anything other than its designed purpose – collecting dust and shavings from saws, planers, jointers and other machines..

9. Shop Fox W1666 2 HP 1550 CFM Dust Collector

Style:2 HP, 1,550 CFM This Shop Fox Dust Collector features a 2 HP motor and an extra Heavy-Duty 12-inch impeller that moves 1,550 cubic feet of air every minute. When it comes to performance and value, this one is hard to beat.

Shop Fox W1666 2 HP 1550 CFM Dust Collector

  • Air suction capacity: approximately 1,550 CFM
  • Static pressure: 12.3-Inch
  • Standard bag filtration: 2.5 Micron
  • Motor amplifier draw: 220-Volt to 12A
  • Bag volume: 5.4 cubic-Feet
Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Product came looking like it was dropped out of an airplane. Need the collector this week but very un pleases with how it came. Shield was damaged

I had a problem with the piece that goes between the filter bag and the plastic collection bag, but it was promptly replaced by the manufacturer

2. Is there a way to get a replacement motor for the shop fox w1666 2 hp 1550 cfm dust collector?

You could go online and find a replacement motor of any type that’s wired 220v/2hp, the impeller mounts directly, however, I would put that money towards a better collector given the opportunity. I would recommend a cyclone.

3. What is the diameter of the inlet cover? Just of the inlet cover, please.

J. D. the inlet to the fan is just under 6″ to allow the 6x4x4 “Y” adapter to fit. The adapter has two 4″ outlets and one comes with a removable cover to facilitate the use of a single 4″ inlet. I do not have the exact outside diameter but can measure it if necessary. just send a reply and I will go to my shop and get the measurement for you. You won’t go wrong with this system. The manufacturers warranty (2 years) is great, and they do stand behind their product. This machine SUCKS!

4. Can I replace the bag with a sub micron unit?

I am not sure about the sub micron filter. I would contact shop fox or look at Grizzly Machinery to see if they make a retrofit filter.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Steve says: “I purchased this to replace a Shop Fox 1hp unit that I used for a couple of years. The picture shows how I put the unit together, which isn’t exactly standard. I bought a 0.5 micron pleated cleanable filter from Wynn Environmental instead of the 2.5 micron bag that came with the unit, and put a stage before that using a Dust Deputy and a sturdy container available on Amazon. I used the wheels that came with the unit, but did not use the bag or the base. Although I’ve dumped the container a couple of times, the bag has nothing
more than maybe 1/4 cup of fine dust. The cost with all the bits and pieces came to about $1,000. My only complaint is that it’s quite a bit louder than the 1hp unit, but tolerable..

  • Weight: 103 lbs.
Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. What is the sustained operating temperature? Is it for intermittent or sustained use? Then normal amps are around 12.

Not sure on the temp, but you can leave it running all day.

2. Would it work without the bags? IE, the debris being blown out of the exit side of the 4″ tube directly into a truck bed ?

Yes, provided no one lives anywhere near you who can sue you.

3. my dust collector # 97869 plugs up before I can finish my board.

I have not had that issue. Ihave used a DW735 planer and a Grizzly GO490 jointer with zero issues and it works well. Make sure your not using an extension cord. Make sure you have 110 to 115 volts. No kinks in the hose. no hard 90 degree bends in the hose. And no leaks. The longer the hose the more volume you loose. My 4″ top of the line woodcraft hose is 10′ long. Last but not least the top filter is not clogged or wet. Best Wishes Tom Any follow up is welcomed.

4. Since it has 2, 4 inch inlets, do you have to plug one of those inlets when using it? Or do you leave both open

Yes however a plug in included. FYI when using any dust collector is it best to include a closable gate fitting on each piece of equipment. Always keep at least one gate valve opened at all times. The machine must pull air when on.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Will this be suitable for a 12’x24’ shed? if i run 3” pvc basically around the entire shed?

Yes, thats about the same amount of space i have. I run my table saw, my jointer, router table and planer off of this. You may need to put blast gates in at each use point and close the gate on the tools that aren’t being used at the time, but this will easily handle that amount of space.

2. How loud is it?

Surprisingly quiet

3. What is the warranty for this item?

Not sure

4. Can this be used with a airbrush spray booth?

Possibly, I would only use it for dust removal.

First, mine arrived well packed – but did not include any instructions. Assembly was about 1/2 hour. There are only a few parts and it’s easy to figure out where the bolts go by the factory drilled holds. The main unit containing the motor is very heavy and hard to get out of the box. Once the unit is assembled, it’s very mobile.

Suction is sufficient for pulling in most saw dust and even small chips of wood. For my table saw, I got a big gulp. It helps keep about 80% of the saw dust off the floor, but shoots debris into the air with the bottom being blocked. I can live with that, but might look into a better table saw. For my miter saw, I have yet another big gulp positioned directly behind it. Again, it sucks in about 80% of the saw dust.

The noise level is about half that of a normal shop vac and I like the easy on/off switch, but the down side is really small saw dusk seems to find its way out of the unit in multiple locations. I was expecting a shop vac tight seal, but without a user manual I don’t know if this is normal or not. I will continue to examine and see if I can’t seal off any leaks over time.

All in all, it works as it should and helps keep my messy shop a little cleaner..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Will the RF remote work through an interior wall?

Yes, I have used mine when it was on another floor.

2. What is the small hose for?

Keeps the reusable canister bag from getting sucked up. Most newer cyclones have this now.. great cyclone for small professional shop, cuts my dust next to nothing compared with my old bagger.

3. What are the assembled dimensions?

70.5″ total height. The three legs for a triangle,32″ each side of tri.The filter canister sticks out 18″ from one side of that triangle. The footprint shape is odd, but if it had to go in a closet let’s pretend, it would fit in a 34″ by 42″ square. If your venting out, without the filter, the footprint is that triangle.. Gotta say I love this for what I paid compared to what I see it there!!! Brian. @desertwoodworking on Instagram.
