Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. How many racks of ribs would fit in this?

You could get several racks of hummingbird ribs in there, but personally, I’d use it just to smoke some wood. Just adding a little humorseriously though, this box’s dimensions are only 9.8″ L x 4.5″ W x 2″ H. I use it every time I grill.

2. Will this fit between the flavorizer bar and the grate or is it too tall to allow the grate to fit correctly?

I just place it on top grate that has flame underneath. It puts out plenty of smoke, just put it in grill at the beginning of your preheat 10-15 minutes before placing food and make sure you soak wood chips for 30 mins.

3. Is this compatible with a Weber 300 grill? I have a burner tube, not bars beneath the cooking grates. Where would this box be placed safely?

I think this burner box is compatible with just about any Weber grill. It’s not practical to put it directly on the burner tubes. It’s better to set it directly on the grill bars. But, the box has far too many holes in the base and top and the air flow causes the wood to burn way too quickly. As other reviewers have suggested, it’s best to block most of the bottom holes with aluminum foil to slow the burn.

4. Will this work with the weber q1200? i don’t have the gill yet so i can’t measure it.

my grill is small and this unit works fine . soak your wood chips for 1/2 hour put them in unit wait for it to start smoking .

Amazon USA Customer says: “This is a must-have for any gas grill. Try putting the box on the grill (half-full with wood chips) for about 10-15 minutes during the grate-warming phase to get that smoke going! I choose not to soak my chips before I put them inside the box, but beware: non-soaked wood will combust into flames and must be monitored. I suggest keeping a water-spray bottle or hose ready to extinguish the flames if and when this happens during the cooking phase. I’ve also experimented with placing a single lump of quality charcoal inside this box in addition to my wood chips, and

I use this box on Weber spirit 310 and it does not fit under the grate. I keep one grate on right hand side and just a box on the other side. Next time I will try using aluminum foil on the bottom of the box that may help fighting the flame. UPD: Cherry gets flame, hickory is good and I don’t see flames. Enjoying using hickory, a lot of smoke.

The trick with preventing the wood chips from catching fire is to put aluminum foil on the bottom and sides of the box and then put your wood chips on top and close the box. This way, you cut off the oxygen from the bottom which can cause the smoking wood chips go catch fire. Also, your chips will smoke for a longer time!

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Max Remley says: “This is a great smoker box. I was going to get a heavy duty cast iron box but thought I’d give this stainless one a try. It is indeed heavy duty and looks like it will hold up for a long time. I’ve only used it 3-4 times so far but I like it. Big enough to sit across a couple of flavorizer bars in my Weber gas grill. The only thing that could be improved is the size of the holes in the smoker box lid. They seem a bit large to my way of thinking. I guess I need
to soak the wood chips before I use them. My old smoker box had lots of tiny holes and I just used dry chips. Never enough air got in to cause them to catch fire. This new stainless box has larger holes and those let in enough air for the chips to flame. That’s not necessarily a bad thing and I’ve been using that flame to sear steaks after they’ve smoked for awhile. I like it..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Is this compatible to Nexgrill?

You just put it on the grate! But it said it was stainless but mine rusted!

2. will it work on IR gas grills?

I assume so given the heat is present to start the pellets smoking. I use mine on the grill grid and not directly in touch with a flame of my gas grill and it generates smoke. As I stated in my review it isn’t a tremendous amount of smoke but enough to add a little flavor.

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Jon Saint Germain says: “This is a sturdy and well-made item that certainly does the job intended. I would like to address an issue raised by other reviewers that frankly, rather surprised me, especially coming from presumably experienced cookers. That is, the issue of a cast-iron cooking utensil rusting if it gets wet. Yes, they do rust, as everything iron does, and heat accelerates this process. Unless you season the box like you would a cast-iron skillets. Coat the smoke box with oil, and you can do this either as a separate process or with its first use, and heat it for twenty minutes or
so at high heat. The oil binds with the iron in a process called polymerization. Repeat the next couple of times you cook, and you have a well-seasoned cast-iron utensil that will never rust.

This item will probably last forever. I have cast-iron skillets that have been in my family for at least a hundred years. I see I reason to doubt the immortality of this smokebox..

Tim says: “My 1st one lasted over 10 years. The reviewer that said to season this with oil is correct. when you get it new, coat it in cooking oil or bacon grease, beef or pork grease, put it on your grill and cook it at 500 for 15-20 minutes. Its just like a cast iron pot or pan and this will help keep it from rusting and should last for years. I let my wood chips soak in water for a 1/2 hr before use, drain the water and put them in this little smoke box at 450, when the chips get
smoking i start cooking, this give meats, and vegetables an nice light smoke flavor and the smell from the grill is absolutely fantastic. Hope this helps..

Each one holds about 2 cups of smoking chips or dust or pellets. Because of the heavy duty cast iron construction, these smoker boxes can be placed on a hot grill or on the lower rack above the flame in a smoker/grill.

Once you get past the heavy weight compared to the almost feather-weight of the other smoker boxes, you will see how much better these are!.

(Actually surprised that the neighbors didn’t show up in the yard at dinner time.) The only trick is that you have to clean and season it, much like with a Lodge pan. What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Some Person says: “I used this to smoke a pork loin. Yes, it takes a while to get the flavor, but man was it good. The box is easy to deal with. Just know that it can get pretty hot. It holds enough to not have to change it out too often, but be sure to soak the chips at least 30 min before you use them and plan to change them out every 40 min to an hr. I guess that depends on how hot your grill gets. Place this on the burning side of your grill and simply let the meat soak
in the flavor indirectly for an hour or two if it’s not a very thick piece of meat. The loin took 3 hrs, but I baked it in the oven at a low temp for about 40 min first, then took about 2 and a half hours or so on the grill. Considering the size of the meat, I should not have put it with low heat underneath in the grill. Indirect is best. It will cook over time anyway and when you’re ready to get a decent char on the meat, that can come at the end on direct heat..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Can this box be used inside had oven, filling the box with water to generate vapor/humidity (for bread baking purposes)?

Yes, if you are planning on putting liquids in it, that would be fine.

2. Can I use this in a Propane smoker ?

I purchased this specifically for use in my propane smoker using pressed apple pellets and it works very well.

3. What is the difference between the smoker box and the smoke&humidity box?

smoker box do more smoking the meat smoke and humity smoker usually tow sepreat boxes or bowels with smoke and heat no bottom and water or what u wish in the upper bowl which steams the meat and smokes it at the same time.

4. I get no smoke with soaked apple wood chips on an electric grill. My grill gets 400+ degrees. I bought Weber 17004 Apple Wood Chips. What do you use?

I got Charcoal Companion Hickory, Mesquite and Apple Wood Chip Sampler Pack to start with, but I have a gas grill, so I’m not sure with the electric. My guess is you need to have the smoker on the grill for a while before you get good smoke out of it, or not soak as long.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

10-2-Go says: “I bought this Cuisinart CSB-156 Wood Chip Smoker Box, along with a bag of Char-Broil Wood Chips, to use with my new Stok Gridiron Portable Gas Grill. The small size of the Smoker Box was a must-have feature, since my grill is not a large one. I had previously grilled steaks and chicken, which both turned out delicious, but I read that a smoker box really improved grilled foods. So, I came home from work and threw a handful of wood chips into water to soak for 30 minutes while I put some rice on to cook and seasoned some boneless,
skinless chicken breasts. Meanwhile, I fired up the grill and preheated it for 15 minutes. Then, I put the Smoker Box (with the drained the Wood Chips in it) onto the grill grate and closed the grill lid, allowing it to heat up for a few minutes (five or ten–I didn’t really time it). When smoke started to come out of the Smoker Box holes, I added the chicken breasts, closed the lid, and grilled for a few minutes per side. Served the chicken with rice and a crisp salad. The family said it was the best chicken I had ever grilled. The neighbors peeked over the fence to see what smelled so good. When I was done, the box cleaned up easily to almost new. Using the Smoker Box really added a whole lot to the taste for such a minimal amount of effort. I really recommend it..

It had a little too much airflow due to the amount of holes on top, but depending upon use type this might not be an issue. I am using it with a gas grill and wanted it to smoke even when using high heat, I folded a piece of aluminum foil, punched 4 holes in it and put this on top of the wood chips then put the lid back on. Works great, now I have smoldering smoke instead of just flames and no
smoke. I use it with Jack Daniel’s wood chips since I love the smell of them even before they smoke and that much more after..

DanC says: “Smoking meats is really an art form. I have friends that have turned it into a lifelong hobby with considerable investment. I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying the results of their labor but for me it’s just too much work. I like this little smoker box because of the size and simplicity of using it. We have a small family and I do not possess the skills, time or patience to invest into a large smoker. This allows me to enjoy small portions of smoked meats with just my grill and some wood chips making the process quick and affordable. It’s
the best of both worlds if your situation is similar.
Keeping it simple, just load the box with your desired wood chips and place it on the grill when you light it up. By the time the grill is preheated you’ll be seeing smoke coming from the box and your ready to grill up some lightly smoked chicken, pork or fish along with some veggies. Our first try was with chicken quarters and corn on the cob. It was delicious to say the least but again the smoky flavor was light and for us that was perfect. You’ll have to experiment with different chips and or add a 2nd box to your grill to get the desired level of smoky flavor that pleases you. If you set your expectations properly considering that your using a grill and a little box of chips you should be pleased with the results. The one mistake to avoid is wetting the chips. You don’t want steam you want smoke..

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Deals says: “The back part of any grill I’ve ever owned is always the hottest. So I put this smoke box right in the back on the main grate. Now the extra heat keeps the smoke rolling out pretty good. Only thing is you really only get about 20-30 minutes so you have to refill. Refilling is not always very easy cause it’s very hot. Plus it takes a while for the chips to start to smoke. So I have bought 2 of these and I just throw the other one on right at 20 minutes and then refill the other one and
wait another 20 minutes. Maybe a bit monotonous but so far this system is working really well..

Others are more square or rectangular and take up valuable space while i use. I can place this against the back edge or side edge or right across the middle and still have lots of space. Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Is 10.1 x 7.4 x 3.5 inches true? That would be way too big for my Weber kettle. Thanks.

It’s interesting that this question comes at me when I am using the smoker box as we speak. You can easily ditch the ‘stand’ that comes with the unit and rest the box right on the grill surface. I use some wood chips as a starter and fill the box with either wood chunks or wood pellets, and fire it up with a butane cooking torch/lighter.And of course it depends on what size Weber kettle that you have,as it most likely won’t fit a ‘Smokey Joe’. I love this unit and highly recommend it.

2. What are the actual dimensions of the box? I read people complaining about the size.

Actual dimension of the smoker box is 6.5″x3″x3″. The larger dimensions posted in the description are for the packaging, which isn’t helpful in the least.

3. Can you use this in a electric smoker to cold smoke with?

Wow:Huhhh??? If you can get it ignited and keep the temperature down less than 100 degrees you might stand a chance. It’s really meant to run at higher temperature.I would light one or two charcoal briskets then cover them completely with wood chips and give it a try.PS.It’s a lot smaller than you think it is by the way.

Works exactly like it should. Included are 2 starters they want you to buy more of. I use Coghlans fuel tabs to start the smoker. You can cut the tabs in half and work like a charm. This is the link for the fuel tablets. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0181F50NC/

Most gas grill smoker boxes sit either on top of the grate or on the bars or bricks above the flames. They are meant to be used on a hot grill, where the food being smoked is also cooked at the same time. This setup does not work for smoking delicate items like cheese, nuts, raw fish (like salmon), etc. because you don’t want to cook the food. So this is the first smoker box I have seen that will handle both hot and cold smoking on a gas grill.

The box is much more perforated than most other boxes, letting in a lot of air for combustion of the wood inside. So for hot smoking, you will definitely need to soak your wood chips about 30 mins; you want them to smolder and not catch fire. For hot smoking, I would put the box right on the grill grate and run the burner at High until the wood starts to smoke. The unique feature of this box is that it can also be used on a stand that sets it up off the grill surface. This allows you to have a small fire under it to light the wood chips without heating up the whole grill. For this kind of smoking, dry chips would work better, as you can light them and then remove the flame and let them smolder. You’ll need good and seasoned hardwood chips to do that. You could also use charcoal briquet pieces, which tend to smolder for a while after lighting.

So thumbs up for a unique idea that expands the use of your gas grill as a hot and cold smoker. The only issue I have had so far is it appears that one of the stiffening pieces that are welded under the cover is missing, as you can see in the picture. I don’t think it will affect performance though..

And having it not just lie on the grill surface directly is smart too – makes it easier to position and doesn’t roll around (although it does have to run perpendicular to the grill grate with the way the legs are set up). Lighting it from underneath with a starter is good too – the cylinder model requires a blow-torch to get the wood pellets to ignite..

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Roy E Lee says: “An excellent value for the money spent. I purchased this product for the additional versatility it offers me. I have been smoking meats for years using chunks of wood or wood chips. I could not use wood byproducts smaller in size than wood chips in my smoker due to its design. I now have all my bases covered whenever I want to smoke something – in my BBQ, or in my smoker.

Scott says: “Tried every trick in the book and this is about the only way to smoke in a Holland Grill without catching your neighborhood on fire . I use regular wood chips (dry) and place this thing in the left rear corner of the grill (on the grilling surface)…as far back in the corner as you can get it. Fill the box about 1/3 full, tap the box till the chips are laying flat on the bottom, and leave the sliding lid 1” open. This little booger is built very well too.
