Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Does anyone know if the numbers fade fast or do they last through candy making and washes?

I use mine for candy making almost daily. The numbers do come off after a while, but I give mine a work out. I am ordering my 3rd one today. But they tend to last me 18 months which is an excellent price for how often I use mine. This last one probably has 900 batches of 300 degree candy under it’s belt. And they are always accurate!!

2. Will this work on ANY TYPE OF SAUCEPAN ?? Will it fit WOKS while deep-frying? I mean high-sided, straight-sided, pot-shaped pots etc.????

The clip is adjustable – it slides up and down according to how deep you need it and it will expand to fit over the side of any pot.I use it on a large thick glass measuring cup when I’m making yogurt and it stays put perfectly.I haven’t tried it on a slant sided wok, but I think that – because of the metal stand on the bottom that protects the bulb – it would still be ok.

3. bought a wilton thermometer & it is thin metal and feels cheap and the clip doesn’t stay on. Is this thermometer made of thick substantial metal?

Yes, this one is sturdy and the clip works well. As I mentioned in the review, the bulb is up about 1/2″ above the bottom so you need to use a pan that will have
at least that depth of liquid in it in order to get a good reading.

4. What is the temperature range, I.e., highest and lowest temperature it will read?

Highest: 400 F (210 C) Lowest: 90 F (50 C)

MarieTop Contributor: Pets says: “I actually just threw out my old thermometer that was the same version that i had for YEARS because it was giving me problems, but it lasted so long and i got so many uses out of it that i just re bought it again. It works great, the only thing id say is dont throw the whole thermometer fully submerged in water or the dishwasher, I think thats where i went wrong. if you have stuck on candy/caramel on it just clip it to the side of a pot and boil with some vinegar and water, itll get most of
it off and wipe the rest down..

J. Peshek says: “I got a 2 gallon stainless steel pot from walmart for 8 bucks, and with this thermometer I have a stove top deep fryer that meets my needs. yes the numbers will wear off eventually. I use my fryer a couple times a week, and I get about 3 months of readable numbers, which is fine because I can keep using it. You get used to seeing where the mercury level is, which for deep frying just needs to be less than 400 and more than 350. I prefer closer to 400 unless I’m doing coconut shrimp or chicken, the oil
cools down too far when I put the food in if I start at 350. It’s no fuss and cheap enough that I just replace it when I want, and since I’m not doing candy, accuracy is not critical..

C. F. says: “I needed a kitchen thermometer that my partner couldn’t ruin or break. This is perfect. It is an accurate heavy duty thermometer. I use it to measure my water or milk temperature for making bread. It is great. I love the stainless steel, it is very very very well made. I ordered the two pack so that my partner wouldn’t take mine and use outside for the grill or deep frying over the propane fryer. He has his own and I have mine. It is much better than I expected. For a very long time I had been purchasing the glass
candy thermometers. And he kept ruining them (5 of them). The glass ones have a paper strip inside. As soon as they get wet with water or oil they are garbage. This one is printed on the steel. Perfect!! If you want a quality piece for your kitchen or outdoor grill area, you can’t go wrong with this one..

This one works well, I was a little afraid at first because my other thermometer was reading way higher but I continued making my fudge following the candy thermometer not the other one, and the candy thermometer was very accurate. My fudge turned out just fine. The black writing didnt come off after I washed it either. I did not scrub where the writing was though I just ran super hot water over and put it on a pan with boiling water to finish it off and it
came off clean. It was pretty easy to read and fit my pan well. It’s very tall but the clip on the back is adjustable so it will fit many sizes of pots..

yajaru says: “I have a drawer full of thermometers but I use this one most often. Checking accuracy with boiling water is spot on. The thermometer is sturdy and large enough to easily read the well marked scale. It has a broad sturdy clip on the back that clips securely onto most pots and pans, allowing it to stay in the hot liquids while cooking. I use it for deep frying, candy making (crucial) and making custards. The design has the lower glass bulb protected by a metal flange on the bottom, keeping the bulb just raised from the actual surface of the
pan, avoiding false high readings as the bulb is always in the liquid. The thermometer itself is a glass tube containing a red liquid and it is well protected by the sturdy metal frame. It is easy to clean off oil, hardened candy, cooked on liquids, etc. Just a quick soak in warm soapy water and a swish and a brush with the dishcloth and its clean. I am very happy I bought this; it’s everything you would want in a candy/oil/liquid thermometer for the kitchen..

Kelsi V says: “Everything I’d hope for in a candy/deep fry thermometer. Appears to be accurate, though I’ve not yet used with candy making. I have used for deep frying. This candy thermometer holds to your pot with a clip that can slide up or down the length of the thermometer to adjust depending on the depth of your pan. The bottom also features a metal “guard” that prevents the glass of the thermometer itself from making contact with the hot pan. The thermometer appears to move quickly with the rising temperature of the liquid in which it’s submerged, so I haven’t noticed any
“lag time.” Easy to clean – a quick wash with soapy water and a dish sponge does the trick! I believe this is not intended to go in the dishwasher, and I have not attempted.

Note – this thermometer is large – at least 12″ long – so it may be too large if intended to only ever be used in tiny pots or 1 c. batches of caramel..

GDawg says: “Throw away your old round plastic thermometer; you know, the one that keeps rolling off the edge of the pan into your syrup or hot oil, and you have to fish it out with tongs and throw away because it melted ? Yeah, that one. Throw it away right this minute and buy this Polder thermometer. It clips to the damn side of the pan!! And, it’s stainless steel, so if you are seriously clumsy and it does fall in the fat, you can fish it out a lot easier with that large handle to aim for. I bought two. Seriously,
a no brainer..

The other fryer has multiple settings and it’s important to know the temperature achieved at a given setting. This thermometer is just the right size to stand in either of my fryers, so it convenient to use. Plus, it’s got the right scale (90°F to 400°F – 30°C to 200°C) for deep fat frying. This thermometer is working well for me. I recommend it.

The thermometer has a sliding clip on the back so you just stick it on the pot, slide it to the height you want and you’re good to go. The thermometer bulb is suspended a couple mm from the bottom of the metal plate, so you can push it against the bottom of the pan and not worry about blowing the bulb with direct heat. It also has handy markings which tick off the various candy states if that’s what you want
it for. Cleaning is a breeze since I just toss it in the dishwasher..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. What is the distance that it can detect with accuracy?

I calibrated mine by pointing it at a cup of boiling water and it was within a couple of degrees. I usually use it at fairly close range (wheel bearings, tires, heating pads, etc) so haven’t done any tests to determine long range accuracy but because of the physics of infrared I have no reason to believe it would be any less accurate at longer range. However it is rated at 12:1 spot ratio which means at twelve feet it would nominally be measuring the temperature of a one-foot circle and the farther removed you are the large the circle you would be averaging. One reason I chose this model was because its 12:1 rating was tighter than many other brands which were rated at 10:1 and 8:1. I have also used it to detect cold spots in my walls while standing back 8-12 feet and it has done this reliably.

2. I am getting a LO reading what does this mean?

Hello,
There could be a few reasons. One could be that when the temperature is either above or below the measuring range, the LCD displays “HI” or “LO”; another reason usually is that you need to check the battery to see if you may need a new battery.

3. Hi i would like to use this device to measure my cast iron coal stove surface temperature. The range will be 400-700 degrees

I use this device for my wood burning stove that’s in my outdoor sauna. I aim it at the side of the burning chamber and it works great. I know when it’s 600F or higher, that there is a good burn inside. When the temp drops to 500F or lower, I know it’s time to add wood!

4. I would like to use it to read the temp of oil in my turkey fryer would it be good for that?

Yes it would be good for that.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Buys too much stuff from Amazon says: “I bought this to check the temperature of my forge, but have found so many more uses for it. Want to check the air temperature coming out of you AC or heat vents, just point the laser and get an instant reading. It says it doesn’t work well on liquid, but it gives me a reading within one degree of my pool temp which is close enough. The laser also works great as a cat or dog toy and you know what the temp of the floor, couch or wall is as fluffy chases the laser around. I would avoid pointing
it at your wife’s forehead. While the reading was pretty accurate my wife was not amused. I told her she was hot. Still not amused..

We took it to an unheated warehouse during the cold snap and “shot” the water pipes. 34; a little too close for comfort. We got a heater for the space. I did not realize I would use this as much as I do, and enjoy it so well. It is accurate across the range I can test. (Ice water 32, boiling water 211 – about right
for my elevation). Shooting the inside of the oven matches my other oven thermometer. I like it!.

Kathy L.Top Contributor: Cooking says: “I just received this infrared thermometer this week, and used it to tell when my salt block had heated sufficiently. Despite my general mechanical ineptitude, I was able to figure out how to open up the handle of the thermometer to remove the plastic-wrapped 9-V battery, remove the wrapping and install the battery. Once that was accomplished, the thermometer worked like a charm. Fortunately, I was not dumb enough to look at the laser light, or to aim it at any guests. Because my purchase is so recent, I cannot yet review how long this thermometer will last. I imagine it
will last much longer if I don’t get carried away pointing it at miscellaneous objects just for fun. By the way, you cannot get an accurate reading through glass..

JTL III says: “Excellent product. Very well made. I use mine to ensure the cast aluminum “GrillGrates” I have on my gas grill are at the proper cooking temperature, and it works superbly for that purpose. I just point it at the GrillGrates, pull the trigger, align the red dot where I want it, and the temperature is instantly displayed on the digital readout on the back. My hands stay cool, and I get a very accurate reading. I use it when I am through grilling as well, to verify the grill has cooled down enough so I can put the cover back on
it (admittedly I could do this by touching the grill with my hand, but it is easier and more fun to sweep the red dot all around the grill exterior, and verify that there aren’t any hot spots anywhere). The Etekcity thermometer can also be used to check the surface temperature of anything in and around the house, from air conditioning ducts to lawnmowers to our cat’s fur, and everything in between..

I made a decision to power it all the way off when I am not using it. That should shave a little off of my high power bill.

Excellent device, does exactly what the manufacturer claims. It won’t handle very high temperatures such as those you would need to check whether a piece of hot steel has reached its critical temperature, but there are other models available that will do that job. But this one has a wide enough range that many people would find it useful for casual or professional applications..

Now I can keep an eye on them with this and when they drop to 32 deg. I will turn on the heat wrap I installed since. Seems to work accurately on black pipe and copper pipe. Seems to be accurate. Claims to be +/- 2 deg. I tested temp. of my tap hot water and compared the Laser reading to a Laboratory grade mercury thermometer and they were within 1 degree of
each other. Not accurate on shinny sheet metal such as furnace exhaust duct work. I had a lot of fun playing with it on various surfaces. Even used it to measure water temp in my washing machine load. I did not want to spend too much and this seems to fit the bill. Some of these things can run upwards of $100.00 with features you may not need. This item lets you change from C to F with push of a button. If you want to get the back off to replace the battery, it is easy. You will see a circular disc with a notch in it, on that side. You need to insert the edge of a quarter or dime and turn it a quarter of a turn, counter-clock wise.

4. What does the warranty cover, and how do I make a claim?

I didn’t put a warranty on it

Old Mother Hubbard says: “An accurate and inexpensive instant read thermometer. I have the Lavatools Javelin and also a Thermapen and wanted a cheaper thermometer for my vacation home. Compared to those other models, it’s only slightly slower on the read and just as accurate. It does take longer for the probe to cool than the other top models and the probe is ever so larger in diameter. Also feels lower quality compared to Javelin and Thermapen but that’s because it is so cheap in price. Ill take the trade-off. Overall it’s a 5 star thermometer for the price.

I love it overall great buy, would
recommend to anyone needing a new thermometer.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Has anyone used this for culinary purposes?

I have not but I see no reason it wouldn’t work for some culinary purposes as it is surely more accurate than most oven and burner controls. I did test mine by pointing it at a pan of boiling water and it was spot on 212 degrees.I also calibrated it with melting ice which showed 32 degrees and suggest you perform the same tests. However, many recommended cooking temperatures are given as internal temperatures such as for meat and fish and this device would only read the surface temperature. That might read higher than the internals so I’d avoid using it in that manner.

2. How far is the effective range?

Please double check the range. Theoretically, it is infinite; realistically, it is not. Manufacturers website states that for best accuracy, the distance from heat source should be 14.17 inches. All the laser is for is to approximate the area measured. IR sensors actually pick up the waves from that area, which in this case is 2cm (~1″) below the laser dot. Please see www(dot)etekcity(dot)com for more descriptive detail.

3. Will it measure the temperature of a room?

At first I read it as “Will it measure the temperature of the moon?”

4. could i somehow use this to measure the thickness of gold plating?

Not thickness, but possibly purity based it it’s melting point.

The reason this is a rough estimate is that the boiling temperature of water changes with salinity and altitude.

The thermometer I received was reading around 208-212 F. So how does this compare to the top end model? I am an engineer who provides safety related components to nuclear power plants. We use the $200+ model which is calibrated by a separate vendor. Our calibration standard is 1.5C which is 209.3F as our lower end tolerance. So this thermometer would NOT be suitable for qualifying safety related components for nuclear plants. Except you aren’t trying to qualify safety related components.

In practice, these are used for taking a quick, general measurement of fluid temperature or identifying heat losses. I wouldn’t expect many people to need to use these to get exact temperatures. I have used this at my home to identify what rooms are cooler then others, draughts around doors or windows and leaks in the HVAC system.

I would greatly recommend purchasing this over the higher end thermometers. Very solid product and definitely accurate..

Here is where my gadgets come to play it’s part, funny to say but: I turned off the laser pointer, asked her to look away then pointed in the forehead, about 7 to 10 inches away.

1st reading was 35.7 C and raising,
after 1 minute made a 2nd reading of 36.5 C,
a 3rd reading was 37.2 C, while I was shouting my wife, “bring the medicine and some ice in a towel, quick!”

Pros:
– senses immediately
– able turn off blue backlight
– able turn off laser pointer
– auto off
Cons:
– none so far.

This sub-$20 device will accurately read the temperature wherever you point the laser, to within a degree or two. The farther away the source, the larger the footprint it tries to measure, but I’ve pointed it at ducts 30-40 feet overhead and gotten accurate measurements of the air coming out of them. This feels well made, with a rubberized covering and grip, and a solid trigger button and display. I was surprised by the fit and finish on this because, well, it didn’t cost much.

Heck, it wasn’t that long ago that a handheld laser alone would cost what this does, but now you can get a non-contact thermometer AND the laser for the same price.

This works well for measuring the temperature of opaque surfaces, and will not measure things like bath water, glass panes and other translucent materials. It also won’t measure your body temperature, since it measures surface temperature only. Still, you can measure approximate temperature of things like HVAC systems by measuring the temperature around the duct. If you’re like me you’ll walk around the first days after you get this, just pointing at anything and everything near and far to measure the temperature and being repeatedly amazed that someone figured out how to make such a device..

9. CDN IRL500 Long Stem Fry Thermometer – 12″

Product Description For absolutely delicious, tender turkey or other poultry, try deep-frying, a “new” method that has been used in the South for decades. The result is a bird that is juicy but has no greasy taste. Speed is another bonus— a 14-pound turkey typically cooks in an hour or less. The more oil that is used, the less the oil temperature will drop when the turkey is added. The simple secret to properly deep-frying is to use a sufficient amount of oil, at the proper temperature, and cook for the correct time.

The IRL500 allows you to make sure that the proper oil temperature is maintained. This thermometer can be used with any size deep fry kettle. From meats to chocolate, the oven or the freezer, whatever you need a temperature reading on, CDN has the thermometer for the task. Featuring advanced technology, quality construction, easy-to-read displays and user-friendly operations, CDN thermometers are essential tools in any kitchen. CDN covers the thermometer with a five-year limited warranty.

Amazon.com Popular in Southern cooking for decades, deep-fried whole turkey is gaining a national audience. When cooked properly it’s delicious, juicy, and has no greasy taste. Each fry kettle has its own instructions, but generally for best results the oil should first be heated to between 375 and 400 degrees Fahrenheit, and after the bird is added, maintained at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. With its adjustable stainless-steel clip, this 12-inch-long thermometer is ideal for attaching to any size vat or kettle to monitor oil temperature.

Large and easy-to-read, the 2-inch dial registers temperatures ranging from 100 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit, and can be left in after cooking is complete to ensure the oil has completely cooled. A 14-pound bird usually cooks in approximately 45 minutes. The protective sheath for the thermometer features a pocket clip and loop to conveniently hold the probe. Since a large amount of hot oil is required, turkeys and other poultry should always be deep-fried outdoors.

A five-year warranty covers the thermometer against defects.–Ann Bieri

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. do you know where this is made?

I am sorry, but I don’t know where this is manufactured. However, this link may help: http://www.cheftools.com/library/cdn/IRL500.pdf. Also, at the very bottom of the pdf document in very small type are the words “Made in China”.

2. Can this thermometer be calibrated with a wrench?

Yes. To calibrate, use a wrench to adjust the hex nut beneath the dial.

3. Is the length adjustable? Meaning, can you adjust the clip down on the probe? My fry pot is 11.5″ tall, so I wanted to be sure I could make it fit.

The clip is adjustable. It slides up and down the stem/probe.The temp is just under 12 inches long. The entire stem of the thermometer is 12 inches, so length should not be a problem for you.My fryer is about 18 inches deep. The probe just needs to reach into the cooking oil.I’ve fried a half dozen turkeys of the past three years.Having an accurate thermometer was a big help.Because of your question I took the time to post my own picture with notes under the advertiser’s picture.I hope this helps.

4. Can you stick in the oven and use it as oven thermometer ?

Yes. You can use it in oven like thermometer.

Winco Deep Fry/Candy Thermometer with Hanging Ring, 2-Inch by 11-3/4-Inch

  • Deep fry/candy thermometer
  • Temperature range 100 to 400 Degree F
  • Built-in pot clip
  • Top hanging loop
  • Measures 2 Inch x 11-3/4 Inch
Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. How long till the numbers wear off?

I use mine at a restaurant multiple times a day and unless you put a scrubber to it they won’t come off. We use high temperatures wash and sanitizer to clean it.

2. How do you use this?

This high-temperature thermometer takes the guesswork out of deep-frying chicken, doughnuts, and french fries or making jelly, fudge, or butterscotch. Its easy-to-read 8-inch face measures temperatures from 100 to 400 degrees F. The face shows proper candy-making temperatures, from “thread” to “hard crack.” An adjustable clip on the insulated handle secures the thermometer to a pan. Made of stainless steel with a shatterproof plastic lens, the thermometer measures 12 inches long overall and is dishwasher-safe.

3. Is the pot clip adjustable?

Yes. On the back the metal clip snaps on the sides of the thermometer which slides up and down along the height of the thermometer. It will allow you to adjust it to the height of your pan.

4. Is this waterproof, unlike cheap deep fryer thermometers?

This deep fryer thermometer appears to be waterproof – at least as far as I can tell. I wash it by hand in soapy water and have had no problems afterward at all. I’ve had it now for about a year, and it’s functioning quite well. I think it’s a good product.

However, I do agree with a prior reviewer who said that it is problematic if making very small batch candy. I had to make a small amount of sugar syrup for an italian meringue. I used my smallest saucepan and the bulb on the Winco just barely touched the surface so I used the glass one as well to compare. I would continue to use the glass for very small batches but
that’s in the clear minority for me. Otherwise I’m all in with this Winco thermometer!.

Elizabeth says: “I’ve been using this thermometer now for just over 3 years for candy making (caramels, seafoam, marshmallows, butterscotch etc) making about 50 batches combined throughout the holiday season. I’ve had other thermometers which have exploded or broken easily, but this one holds up very well and is very accurate which isn’t the case with most of them. The only thing that I can think of that is wrong with it is that the thermometer doesn’t go quite down far enough (which is actually a good thing most of the time) but it can make it hard to submerge in the candy

The only thing that I can think of that is wrong with it is that the thermometer doesn’t go quite down far enough (which is actually a good thing most of the time) but it can make it hard to submerge in the candy when making things like seafoam that need to be made in a pan to large for it so it can expand properly.

I want to get another one just because it works so well! Then I could double my output of candy!.

Depending if you want hard candy or soft candy, the temperature makes a huge difference. The front of the thermometer has markings for different kinds of candy. Very nice. The only drawback is the thermometer can be a bit hard to read. This is dependent on the lighting. A minor change in the lighting can make a big difference in the readability.

13. CDN FG80 Refrigerator/Freezer NSF Professional Thermometer

Style Name:ProAccurate Refrigerator/Freezer Thermometer Product description For proper cold food storage, it is important to keep your refrigerator and freezer at their proper temperatures at all times. The CDN ProAccurate Refrigerator & Freezer thermometer will help you do just that. The refrigerator and freezer thermometer has a temperature range of -40 to +80¦F. Target range indicators are along the temperature guide so you know just where the end of the non-mercuric, food safe red oil should be.

The polycarbonate case protects the thermometer and can be mounted by either standing or hanging in your refrigerator or freezer. The thermometer has been NSF approved. Amazon.com Tired of finding frozen lettuce in your fridge or ice cream that is too hard to scoop? To ensure food is stored at ideal and safe temperatures, this thermometer measures the precise internal temperature of freezers and refrigerators. Housed in a durable plastic casing, the 4-3/4-by-1-1/4-inch thermometer features a red, non-mercuric column inside industrial-grade glass.

Two stainless-steel clips keep it securely fastened to a shelf. Temperatures read horizontally, in a dual scale range of -40 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit (-40 to 27 degrees Celsius). Zones are marked for recommended storage temperatures: a freezer should be set ideally between 0 and -10 degrees Fahrenheit (-17 and -23 degrees Celsius), while a refrigerator should be kept between 34 to 40 (1 to 4.4 degrees Celsius). Colder than that causes lettuce to freeze; warmer and foods spoil too quickly.

Certified by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF), this thermometer has been manufactured to high commercial standards. CDN covers this professional thermometer with a five-year warranty against defects.–Ann Bieri

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Is the alarm loud?

Not loud but audible throughout my 1800 sq ft ranch house. It has alerted us many times when freezer drawer was not closed properly.

2. Made in USA?

The thermometer was not made in USA. Say “Made in China” on the front label. It does seem well made and works well.

3. I want to use this in a cooler to be used in my car. Will this work okay here?

It should work. The device has a freezer and refrigerator setting and the temperature ranges should work with a cooler.
Ours works fine but we only use it on the freezer setting.

4. Will this alarm if my fridge gets too cold? We’ve had our veggies freeze.

No. This alarm only goes off on temperature rise.

Sesa says: “I am a professional chef and I am used to controlling temperatures daily. One day I noticed some things went bad in my fridge (at home), and it wasn’t their time to go bad. Sometimes the fridge would also freeze things on the top, so I decided to keep a controlled temperature in the fridge just like I would do at home. This thermometer has been very handy. It is a little hard to stick anywhere though, but other than that good buy. Ps. I’ve dropped it many times and it hasn’t cracked or stopped working.

Andrew K. says: “I was afraid of how this would turn out reading some of the reviews, I haven’t had a problem yet. One thing I noticed though is that when we lost power after about 4 hours this was alarming showing it was up to 19F when it is typically between -2 to 4 F. It was interesting to see how quick it warms up but at the same time too I don’t have that much in there so there is less to hold the cold. Suction cup does me no good as this won’t stick on the side of the freezer but
I just leave it dangling on the back side. It is nice to have the added piece of mind with this..

Travis G says: “Our appliances are all older and I’ve thought on more than occasion about getting one of these. When I saw they were $10 for a pair on Amazon, I jumped right in. Setup is easy – just slide the switches to freezer or frigerator, put the sensor inside, mount the velcro, and away you go. The frigerator does tend to alarm a bit much when the door is open for >20 seconds or so. Ideally, I’d put it in a little container of something benign like rice or dried beans. That would ‘dampen’ the temperature reading so it doesn’t alarm when
the door is open for a few seconds. The only thing I haven’t liked is the suction cup. It simply doesn’t stick to a cold surface for very long. I took mine off and tucked the sensor in to a crevice on the frige. For the deep freeze, I just let it dangle down through the top door..

2. Can this also be used for meat?

Yes, this can be used for meat however only common deep fry temperatures are printed on the dial.

3. How do you calibrate if necessary?

It does not appear that it is possible to calibrate this thermometer.
There is not an adjusting nut as like other thermometers I have used.
It does keep accurate temperatures the few times I have used it.
Will have to wait and see how it holds up.

4. Could you bend the temp probe to fit into my deep fryer and not break thermometer?

I would not recommend trying that. Its a rigid probe and would likely damage it.

1. can this be used for roasting turkey?

I bought mine for roasting coffee beans in a popcorn popper. Haven’t gotten aroundbto trying it out yet. It is a thermometer. One would think it would work though bulky.

2. I assume you can use this to measure cooking oil temperature? Or only for meat?

I would only use it for oil or other liquids. Meats would be last on the list but not out of the question. This is my go to thermometer for outdoor frying after using many inferior thermometers claiming to be for frying.

3. How long is the rod? I need to use it in a large wok, so it needs to be at least 12 in. long.

The rod is 10.75″ long

4. Can i use this for frying turkeys.

As the description title states, “deep fry thermometer ” yes. I use it for fried chicken or fries. Best one yet.
