  • HDMI ONLY – Adapter video output ports are HDMI only, DisplayPort displays are not supported. If DisplayPort outputs are required, please search for TBT3-DP2X-83
  • WINDOWS COMPATIBILITY – Compatible with select Windows Thunderbolt 3 systems. Not all Windows systems support dual video output. Please see important compatibility details below prior to purchase
  • APPLE COMPATIBILITY – Requires a Thunderbolt 3 Apple Mac with an Intel processor. Macs with an Apple M1 processor and ‘USB-C only†systems are not supported

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Can I use two of these to connect to four displays?

MANUFACTURER ANSWER: The internal technical specifications of the host system will ultimately determine how many external displays can be connected.Without knowing which specific model host system you are using, we are unfortunately unable to answer your question. Please reach out to us directly via the Plugable website with the brand and specific model number of your laptop so that we may further assist.

2. Is there something i can try differently? i can’t get this to work with my hp envy 13-ad173cl 13 inch laptop?

MANUFACTURER ANSWER: Looking at the manual and specifications of your system online (https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-13-ad100-laptop-pc/16851062/model/18021528/product-info) your system does not have a Thunderbolt 3 port. It has two USB-C ports that have a similar connector, but they do not provide Thunderbolt 3 functionality. Our adapter requires Thunderbolt 3 support in order to work, so unfortunately our adapter will not work with your system (this is an internal laptop limitation, not a limitation of our adapter). We never want a customer stuck with a product they cannot use and we are happy to provide for a refund. Please reach out to us directly via https://plugable.com/support/email/ with your Amazon Order ID number so we can get the process started.

3. Does this work for Google Pixelbook?

MANUFACTURER ANSWER: Our Thunderbolt 3 Dual Display adapter requires a host system with a Thunderbolt 3 port built-in in order to work. The Google Pixelbook does not have a Thunderbolt 3 port, so our adapter will not compatible. Please reach out to us directly via https://plugable.com/support/email/ if you have any additional questions.

4. Can i extend (not mirroring) dual monitors macbook pro? i have two monitors with hdmi

Which MacBook Pro model do you have? I personally have this adapter however I only use if for one monitor. I also have the Display port version of this and it successfully powers 2 4K displays.
My setup:
2017, 15-inch MBP (touch bar)
OWC Thunderbolt 3 Dock
This TB3-> Dual HDMI adapter (1 monitor)
Same brand adapter, TB3-> Dual Display Port adapter (2 monitors)

Total, 3 distinct and separately operating monitors on my MBP.

1. If it supports two 4k moitors @60 hz why does the box indicate 30 hz?

It looks like Amazon has some incorrect images on their website for our TB32HD24K60. We’ll reach out to them and have this corrected. Thanks for pointing that out! Our TB32HD24K60 will support two 4K displays at a 60 Hz refresh rate.

Brian, StarTech.com Support

2. will this provide 4k @ 60hz on a 2012 Mac mini?

No, TB32HD24K60 will not work with a 2012 Mac Mini because it connects with Thunderbolt 3, and the 2012 Mac Mini has Thunderbolt 1.

Sam, StarTech.com

3. Will the 2xhdmi output version work w/ dell precision 7720?

TB32HD24K60 requires that the host computer supports dual displays over ThunderBolt 3. We recommend contacting the manufacturer of the computer to confirm this functionality.

Atha, StarTech.com Support

4. Does anyone know if this works in the ALienware 15r2?

TB32HD24K60 will have full functionality on computers with support for 2 external displays over Thunderbolt 3. We recommend reaching out to Dell to confirm if the Alienware 15 R2 has this support.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Does this allow you to extend both monitors, or just duplicate?

On my Dell Latitude 5490 I have the laptop display and can extend on to two additional monitors.

2. Is this just a splitter or would it allow for two monitors to be separate displays as opposed to be recognized as 1 display (or mirrored displays)?

This is NOT just a splitter. This will allow you to connect 2 additional monitors either mirroring, duplicated or extended. Using your laptop with the 2 added screens will give you 3 monitors

3. Will this extend the desktop to all 3 screens on the surface pro 7? the ones i have tried so far have only duplicated the 2 external monitors.

I use a surface book 2 and it does extend the screen to all three screens (two external and one laptop screen), each screen showing a different display.

4. Does this allow for two separate monitors to display different Items that I can drag between them “screen 1, Screen 2”?

Yes, on my Windows 10 laptop I have two monitors and two side by side screens.

Ari B. says: “I’ve been looking for a long time for an adapter that won’t just mirror/duplicate the main display. Most of the adapters on the market are really just splitters, only capable of duplicating. That can be useful for some people, but not what I needed. This one however, finally allows the functionality I need to extend my desktop. Different tasks, different backgrounds, different resolutions, the whole deal – just like it should work if my mobo had 2 native HDMI ports. I’m very pleased, I can get back to my multitasking and usual productivity now. You may need to swap the HDMI

You may need to swap the HDMI cables to get the correct monitor to show Display 1, and/or go into settings to activate multiple displays (though if you don’t know how to do that, why are you even here?) but the hardware itself it was plug and play for me. No trouble whatsoever.

In case it’s helpful, I’m using Windows 10 Pro on an ASUS AM4 TUF Gaming x570 Pro motherboard..

2. will this charge the Lenovo c940? Currently have it plugged in, 2 screens work, but it isnt charging.

I have a c940 as well and mine doesn’t charge the laptop either. There is no 230w cord. Did you buy the cord separately and did it work for charging the laptop or did you return the product as an overpriced hub?

3. Looking for dock that will work with the lenovo p52. will this work???

Don’t count on it. When I plugged with Lenovo docking station into either T3 port on my Lenovo Y740 laptop, it wasn’t even recognized fully by Win10. Only the video ports worked. None of the USB ports worked, and the Ethernet port only had blinking LEDs, but never came up in Win10. Other brands of T3 devices work fine in those same T3 ports, just not this docking station.

4. solo conectando al equipo es cargar el Notebook con el mismo cable??

El cable thunderbold es la conexión a todo lo que trae el dock , carga batería, varios monitores o TV , cable de red, periféricos de almacenamiento etc.

Finally i decided to write something about the performance with macOS.

Well, everyone knows this is a pretty tb3 dock, and i use it with my DELL 5290 2-in-1 (2* tb3 ports), everything works fine, power delivery, DP output 4K@60zh, HDMI output 4K@60hz, ethernet, extra tb3 port, all checked, it is a perfect dock if you want to a reliable TB3 connection.

However, in my scenario i also want to use it with my macbook pro, 2017, 15inch. the fact is, i can’t get the 4k@60hz from its own DP/HDMI ports, i have to use USB-C to DP/HDMI cable to connect it through the tb3 port at front panel, otherwise i have to run at 4k@30hz@HIDPI OR (QHD@60hz but without HIDPI). i have tried to intall the latest firmware through its website but no luck, it’s really bad but we cant blame lenovo. anyway they designed it to support its own laptops (windows), the macOS support will never on its roadmap. but still a bit shame.

Nov 2019, yesterday I updated the dock firmware to the latest 3164 version by a windows laptop, then switch back to macbook pro with macOS Catalina10.15.1, now I can get the 4k 60hz from the dock’s dp. great work.
the problem is, it looks the power supply of the dock are not sufficient for the macbook pro anymore. the battery of the macbook pro drained quickly after i connected the display to the dock’s dp port. not sure if its firmware issue or i have too many payloads here. then i have to use the original power supply of the mbp to charge it. after did some research, i connected a secondary power adapter to its 230w port, now the dock is chargd by two power bricks and then it can charge the mbp again. all done now..

1. Can both connected monitors show seperate displays? Or mirror only?

I have 2 monitors connected to my 2016 Macbook Pro 15″ and they are all separate displays.

2. Do you sell a thunderbolt 2 product?

Unfortunately no

3. If i use one the usb-c connect 2 monitors with this, can i use the other usb-c to connect a third monitor and so have a 3 monitors configuration?

One 4 lane thunderbolt 3 port should be able to handle 4, 1080p displays at 120hz, or two 4k displays at 60hz. So theoretically, if you have two thunderbolt 3 ports with 4 lanes, you should be able to run 4 4k displays at 60 hz a piece. Dont quote me on that, but you can definitely run at least 3 monitors.

4. I purchased this item and 1 of the 2 displays keeps flickering. I don’t have enough rep to leave a review so leaving as a question. Is there any fix?

This was happening to me and then I forced the refresh rate on my monitors to be 60hz and the flickering stopped

Seems to work. Had to switch cables between my two monitors for some reason, but it may be that the HDMI cable wasn’t pressed all the way in. All in all, it seems to work well so far. I have my MacBook Pro (2017) connecting to an older 1080p and a ultra wide Dell at the same time, giving me three total monitors (including the macbook display). Colors seem to be accurate and no weird aberrations in the picture. Although, once in a while, plugging in the unit to the macbook (USB-C), one of the monitors don’t get recognized. So unplugging and replugging in the unit seems to fix that. I’m not going to fault this adapter because I’ve had this issue with almost all USB-C to display adapaters from all brands… and on multiple MacBooks. So it might be a power draw thing (IMHO).

Also, clarifying it actually extends the desktop, not just mirror (some of the other ones that sport dual HDMI only do mirror on the external monitors.).

So far, this is the best value I’ve seen that allows me to do have two displays accurately and reliably connected simply. Can’t say much about the dual 4K yet as I don’t have any 4K displays. Will try on my boss’ setup and if it doesn’t work, I’ll update the review here. 🙂

Adam says: “This docking station works great. I am running 3 1080 monitors with no problem off my Lenovo P52s. Just don’t make the mistake I did and plug the docking station in the regular charging port. Only 2 of 3 monitors would work. Once I realized my mistake I plugged it in the thunderbolt port it works great and it has for months.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. The early 2015 macbook air has displayport 1.2 and thunderbolt 2 (intel hd graphics 6000). will this work with this newer model?

It won’t. Quote from Startech’s website:”Although you will be able to connect the MST hub to the Mini DisplayPort (mDP) connection on your Mac, Mac OSX does not support MST for NVIDIA and Intel Graphics Processor Units (GPUs). This results in a mirrored image across the outputs of a MST hub and you will not be able to have multiple independent displays on your Mac.The limitation of NVDIA and Intel GPUs lies within Mac OSX. If a different operating system is used, such as Microsoft Windows via Bootcamp, you may be able to use the MST functionality of your Mac.”

2. Will this work on a 2011 macbook pro high sierra , with extended monitors and not mirror monitors?

No, the MSTMDP122DP is not supported for Mac OS. Supported operating systems include: Windows 10, 8.1, 8 and 7. Atha, StarTech.com Support

3. Can i use the mstmdp122dp model for my surface pro 3? i only have two monitors n if so do i only need two hdmi cables to run for each monitor n adapte

yes, you will need 2 hdmi cables and 2 displayport to hdmi adapters

4. Does this work as like having 2 mini display ports instead of one in my laptop? Would like to connect 2 DP to my one mini dp on my laptop

This gives you two regular full sized DisplayPorts.

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Paul L says: “This Brydge hub works well with my 16” MacBook Pro and Apple Thunderbolt display. One cable to the MacBook Pro is a big improvement over trading around various cables and dongles to connect devices to the MacBook. The Thunderbolt Display wakes up immediately now that it is attached to the Brydge Hub instead of intermittently when connected to the laptop with a dongle. The height of the hub and color and location of the ports let’s the port fit below the external monitor’s screen unobtrusively with aesthetically pleasing. I’m very happy to have this hub as part of my computing solution.
