What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Jared B. Rock says: “Super happy with this projector! I also tried an Optoma projector of the same price. There was no comparison. This Epson is sharp and focused from left to right and top to bottom. There are plenty of picture adjustments to make it to your preference. It’s super bright and the colors are great. I have it on my wall in my bedroom. I haven’t measured it, but I’d say it’s about 9 feet wide. I have the audio from my Blu-ray player hooked into my stereo receiver. Just stereo sound. The speaker on the projector is fine but I’d recommend using
a stereo. NOTE: this projector does not have an audio out for headphones or to plug into a stereo. You have to hook audio from your Blu-ray or DVD player to a receiver and run a separate cord to the projector for picture. I’d recommend doing it that way if you want a movie theater experience. But the speaker on the projector is fine if you’re not picky. I’m completely happy with this product..

Patsy R Ricks says: “I have been struggling to replace my old projector for almost 2 weeks. I ordered another projector from Amazon and sent it back the next day because it did not have a sharp focus nor a clear image. I went to Best Buy and got no helpful service, so I went back to Amazon and ordered based on the reviews. The Epson EX3240 came today, and I began to set it up immediately. As soon as I opened the box, I knew I had the right projector. It came with all the cords and batteries needed (as my first ordered projector
did not); and as I was taking it out of the box, I could tell it was a quality projector.

The most amazing part was when I turned it on in a well lit room, I got the most amazing bright, sharp picture. The remote control frees me from standing behind my computer and has many new functions that my old projector did not.

I am a travel professional and give many presentations using my PowerPoints and photos. They never looked as good as they do with this projector. I could not be happier..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Using Bluetooth speakers, do you notice any lag between the sound and the action?

As someone else mentioned, the projector has a setting to sync the Bluetooth speaker with the picture to eliminate any lag. I use a bluetooth speaker and this setting works perfectly.

2. Can this projector be mounted on a slr camera tripod?

Yes, it can.

3. Is the brightness (550 lumens) sufficient for watching movies on a 100″ screen in a dark room?

If the room is very dark yes. With very much ambient light it will have a washed out appearance. Even in a very dark room the lighting is below average.

4. Will it work with Bose SoundLink? Does it compatible with Bluetooth 4.x or 3.x?

This will work with the Bose Soundlink.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Shar O. says: “i did a lot of research before buying this, but it’s my first projector, and i’m not using a screen. i didn’t want to spend more than 500, and would have stretched to 600, including for refurbished if it was a good deal, but i felt this was the best match for me, particularly since i wanted something easy to move around and ideally able to connect wirelessly. since you can’t replace the lenses on these smaller projectors (and none of the regular sized projectors i found have native wireless capability), lamp life was also important. this checked all the boxes,
particularly since it can work on both battery as well as plugged in.
the major thing that concerned me was that many reviews stated it was too dim. first out of the box, and in a dark room it is more than light enough on super saver mode (which is the dimmest). tried it in a room with both curtains and blinds (but not blackout by any means) in daylight, and it was still ok in super saver, but certainly bright enough in full bright mode, projecting around 6 feet away (the closer it is, the brighter but smaller it is. i still got something like a 5 foot diagonal sized picture.
note that i haven’t ever projected from more than 10 feet away, but at 10 feet, picture is still good. i imagine you’d get better quality picture and better brightness if you had a screen, but for me, it does quite well as is.
i’m worried that the nature of the bulb being LED, that this may be unusable in about 5-7 years (as LED gets dimmer with more use), but i suppose it won’t be a bad run for $400..

4. Can i use tv cable? Can i use home theater from Bose?

The set up was very simple as well, and we are not techy people. I would recommend this projector to anyone looking for a quality home theater experience at a decent price!.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. can i project this on a 19ft screen to be viewed by 100 people in a conference hall?

For a 16: 9 aspect ratio 228″ (19FT) screen the projector would have to be placed between 24′ 6″- 26′ 10″ away.At that distance there need to be no ambient light. If you are going to be in a room with ambient light, you may want to look at a unit that is brighter. If you have any further questions, please contact Optoma technical support at 888-289-6786 Monday – Friday 7 AM – 5 PM PST for further assistance.

2. How do I get rid of overspalsh?

The shadow border around the projected image from the Optoma HD143X is inherent to the architecture of the new DMD chip used. It is not noticeable when used with a projection screen with black frame and does not affect picture quality. These projectors display high-quality 1080P resolution and will perform as expected. If you have any further questions, please contact Optoma technical support at 888-289-6786 Option 2 Monday – Friday 6 AM – 5 PM PST for further assistance.

3. why the price difference between the same projector listed of another seller in amazon too?

We see many questionable seller’s try to sell on Amazon with a very low price point. We recommend only purchasing from Amazon direct to ensure you get the correct product in a factory sealed box. If you have any further questions, please contact Optoma technical support at 888-289-6786 Monday – Friday 6 AM – 5 PM PST for further assistance.

4. Does anyone use this for gaming? If so how is the quality?

Its great I have it set at 120 inches on a nice screen there’s zero lag. It does better gaming than for watching tv. I cant tell the difference between it and my 50 inch 1080i tv. It’s really a sweat projector the speaker kinda sucks but buy a set of PC speakers with a sub and plug it in auxiliary and surround sound here you come

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

James says: “Having had a background in sales for A/V equipment, as well as the installation of them, I have seen top shelf quality products as well as equipment that doesn’t quite meet my high expectations. With this projector I was skeptical because the price was so low but the features were on par with what I was looking for, so I took a chance. Let me just say my gamble paid off big time! This projector exceeds my expectations and looks magnificent. The blacks are black and the whites are white. Color is suburb and I didn’t even have to adjust out
of the box which surprised me. I have cable, which is usually not the best when it comes to picture quality because of the feed my cable company provides and yet this projector nails it! My PS4 on blu-ray however is what really blew my mind. The quality of picture was crisp and vibrant, it looks like I should have paid thousands of dollars! Easy to setup and very user friendly I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for an inexpensive projector but wants top quality performance..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Anyone know where I can buy a replacement lamp for this projector?

Here is the part number for the lamp module, MC.JH111.001, and a search on Amazon using it, http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=MC.JH111.001

2. Does this model have a ceiling projector mount? There do not appear to be holes on the top.

The holes are on the bottom of the projector. There are (3) of them. The projector hangs upside down and it automatically detects that it is upside down and flips the picture. It does not come with the actual mount. I bought a cheap universal one from monoprice

3. Can any one tell me that is this a short throw projector? thanks

Specifications list the projection distance as 3.3′ (1.0 m) ~ 33.8′ (10.3 m)

4. I may potentially take this projector overseas. I notice the device is 110-220V. What is the frequency (50/60hz?) and plug for this product?

It is in fact 100-240 V 50-60hz, the frequency is not a concern as the internal power supply will adapt accordingly to the voltage and frequency.
It comes with the standard US cord plug, but it is probably easy to find a proper generic power cord traveler adapter in the country you are going to.

I will start by saying, I did not have high expectations for this projector. We were looking for an inexpensive cinema projector for a home theater. I saw this projector had decent reviews on a tech website, then saw it was on sale for $250.

We bought the projector hoping for the best, but expecting the worst (especially from Acer).

I would rate this projector as comparable to a friend’s projector that cost almost 10-times the amount. The “professional” cinema projector has darker blacks and a brighter picture. But for 1/10th of the cost, we are not complaining and it is not a very noticeable issue.

I was most surprised about the quality of the image with the blinds open or lights on. I expected the picture quality to completely diminish, but that isn’t the case with this projector.

We had a weird issue when the remote didn’t sync to the projector on first use. We contacted Acer, and by the time they responded it magically fixed itself. My only real complaint about the remote is the small-size. I can not count the number of times the remote has been lost to the couch cushions for days at a time..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. if a throw of 30 feet can I adjust it to a screen of about 120 inch screen and have a good picture

No the lens won’t do that for a 120″ screen the max throw is 20 feet. 30 feet would produce a 265″ screen which still would produce a clear and very nice picture.

2. How long is the lamp life?

In my experience, under about 8hours/day use over 6 years, the bulb will be dimmer than new, but will still function, this includes pushing to full brightness mode about 2 years ago on the one that’s used at 190 inches in the living room (to keep it visible during daylight hours). I would advise turning the lamp life reminder off, it pops up for a considerable amount of time when you turn it on, unless they’ve changed it in the past years.

3. What wireless hdmi dongles can you use? all of the ones i’ve found require usb power and this projector doesn’t have a usb port.

You can use any HDMI dongles. This unit has Mini USB port in the back to power your streaming device.

4. Can you use this with a sonos speaker system

As long as the speaker system has an AUX input, it should work. Please feel free to contact our Tech Support line at 800-688-6688 if you have additional question.

I had initially purchased ViewSonic’s lower-resolution projector (1024 x 768) in this same line of projectors and felt that was a great projector but I wanted the higher resolution, so I ordered this unit instead and will be returning the other one after comparing them side-by-side.

This is a great projector. Here’s what I like:
1) Bright, bright image. If you are thinking outdoor movies like I am, this one is a winner due to the brightness.
2) Great picture. I went straight for the good stuff and queued up some 1080P NFL videos. I wanted to see how fine the details looked when projected large, and I was certainly impressed. The ability of this projector to process motion is not as good as my plasma TV, but it performs well enough that I would not be the least bit embarrassed to host a super bowl party with this unit. The colors are outstanding. Good whites and blacks, and contrast is very good.
3) Right now, it is about the price point. At this same price point (currently $549) you can get the Optoma HD142X, which is a very popular 1080P projector. After reading reviews, I opted to stick with the ViewSonic brand. I don’t think there exists any projector at this price point that is clearly a better choice. You could spend double or triple the money, but I’m not sure what that would really do for you. This unit is already great.
4) You can hear the speakers pretty well indoors, but don’t expect too much.

Things not to like:
1) Kind of nitpicky, but there could be a cover for the lens.
2) You can definitely hear the fan while the unit is on.
3) Not a lot of inputs. The other ViewSonic at 1024 x 768 had more inputs and was therefore better-suited to giving presentations, since you could hook up just about anything. At 1080P, you should be thinking of this as more of a video projector than for presentations, although ViewSonic markets this unit as a cross-over projector that is good for both.
4) This is a DLP unit, so there is a chance someone may see the rainbow artifact. I personally have not seen it.

Other thoughts: I actually loved the 1024 x 768 projector in this series as well. I purchased it for backyard movies. It just bothered me that we would not be able to enjoy full 1080P on that projector. There is a slight bonus with the 1080P projector that I had not expected. The image is brighter, and the reason is not necesarily intuitive. Due to the wider aspect ratio, the projector sits slightly closer to the screen to fill up the entire width of the screen with the image….as a result of being slightly closer, the image is also slightly brighter. It is not by a huge amount, but it is noticeable. I had the two projectors side by side and the difference is real. The 1024 x 768 projector is still better than DVD quality and that is fine…but in the era of 4K TVs being the new standard, DVD-quality is now two generations behind. 1080P movies will be good enough for our household for years to come.
On an 84″ wide pull-down screen (96″ diagonal for 1080P 16:9 content), this projector is plenty bright. I have the screen mounted under the eaves on the south side of the house, so it gets sun all day long….but there is no need to wait for the darkest of the night to fire this up. Honestly, you could watch movies outside on a cloudy day. Inside the house, the brightness is never an issue.
I will update this review if the projector fails to provide good service.

Update 5/22/2017:
The only audio output is 3.5mm, so depending on what you want to do in terms of audio, that may be a factor for you. I recently upgraded to a Behringer B112W powered speaker so I have powerful portable sound to go with the projector, but it has no 3.5mm input. Most PA speakers do not. Not to fret, whoever, since there are adapters and converters aplenty to solve the problem of the mismatched projector output / speaker input. For my scenario, the 3.5mm stereo output has to be converted to 1/4″ mono. Other option is to use aptx low-latency bluetooth transmitter in the 3.5mm projector audio output, since the speaker has built-in bluetooth receiver.
Main thrust of this update is this: You may want to pay attention to inputs/outputs available because your audio solution may be subject to change.

Update 6/10/2017:
Added a picture to show brightness of projector 36 minutes prior to sunset.
Another picture shows how Chromecast sits in the rear HDMI input, plus I have a Bluetooth transmitter hooked up in the 3.5mm audio output.

Update 2/9/2018:
I ran the projector for the Super Bowl out in the dining room as a second viewing option and we all ended up watching in the dining room for the entirety of the first half (probably because my wife put the food out there!), with the image projected very clearly directly onto the wall. My guests were thoroughly impressed with the picture quality and brightness. Around halftime, we all moved to the family room (60″ LG plasma 1080p circa 2012) and the TV provides better image in almost every respect (fine detail, motion, and color accuracy), it is not quite the same as having the very large image that the projector provides, and in truth, the ViewSonic PJD7720 is not far behind in image quality.

I hope you found this review helpful..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. I have this projector for 3 weeks now. i mounted this on the ceiling and i seat 9 feet away from this projector. fan is loud. is that normal?

Yes, it is.In normal mode the fan is quite loud.I experienced the very same issue andyou’ll find reviews at major projector sites commenting similarly. You need to place the projector in ECO mode.It will reduce the noise by 50% substantially less.Downside is it will impact the brightness. That being said, the Epson is quite brighter than most projectors — in ECO mode, the brightness is roughly equivalent to others.I compare it especially to the BenQ HT2050.In ECO mode the Epson is equivalent in both brightness and sound (granted others may comment about lumens being different, but no major difference to my eyes.)Basically, put it in ECO mode, that will reduce the fan noise. Hope that helps!

2. i had this projector for 17 days now. there is a very feint black parallel lines on the scren. Is this normal??

Just to clarify screen door happens on LCD displays, DLP displays will have what is called the rainbow effect. To fix the screen door effect you have to either sit farther away from your screen or shrink the size of the screen as that will alter the way the light bounces off the LCD panel through the lens and onto the screen. Kinda like looking through a screen door, the closer you get the more you can distinguish the lines. DLP’s with the rainbow effect is really a color overlapping that makes whites look like a faint rainbow in them.

3. This works with Apple devices?

I mirrored a movie and pictures along with facebook, etc. from my iPhone.

4. Does this projector come with 3d glasses?

No they don’t.

(I have found that if you shoot the canned air into the back of the projector while running, it will shoot flames out of the front. So… I’m thinkin that is going on the “don’t do that” list.).

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Can anyone comment on the response time of this projector? The 2040 is around 25~30ms, I would like to know if this is the same…

The wonderful ProjectorCentral.com site reports a response time of “53 milliseconds for the HC 1040 which is about in the middle of the pack among comparable projectors. Many casual gamers will find this lag acceptable, but those looking for the fastest units will opt for other projectors like the Epson 2040, which runs at 24 ms.”

2. Can you use an external self powered speaker with projector?

Negative, the projector’s built-in outputs send out video only. For audio, the speakers would have to be plugged into the source of the video that is being sent to the projector.

3. I have a 100 inch screen how far does the projector have to be ? THX

We had a solid 120″ screen going with the projector about 10 ft away.

4. Can you use it with ChromeCast?

It has a USB port, so I would imagine so. I’m thinking about getting one also.
1st gen Chromecast needs a USB and an HDMI and the 2nd gen just needs the HDMI. You’ve got both on this projector.

I plugged my RaspberryPi into it, and good lord, the picture is sharp and crisp, and the colors are bright and vivid. As expected, the sound output is pretty average, but that seems to be pretty standard these days with TVs and projectors alike. I went ahead and picked up an HDMI audio extractor for the best sound quality.

As there is a newer model out for a little less than the current price of this projector ($649), and given there are other projectors that are competitive or better quality in this price range I can’t say I’d recommend it at this price point-but if were to go on sale for close to what I paid, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it..
