Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Can someone help with the flavor profile? creamy, rich caramel, chocolate, lower ph. new york vs jo espresso?

Good morning. For a brewed cup I favor New York Jo. For espresso straight or espresso drinks I favor Jo Espresso. The New York Jo will have slighly less acidity.

Sincerely,

Kevin Kapaun
Chief Coffee Fanatic
Jo Coffee Inc.
Kick Coffee Co.
Specialty Java Inc.

P.S. You are welcome to contact me personally if you ever have any questions.

2. Is the New York 2lb bag available ground?

Good morning. In the last 2 weeks we just launched the New York Jo in ground 12 oz. packages to test the demand for this blend in ground format. It is too early to tell when it will be a success. If there is sufficient demand, it is possible we will eventually produce ground 2 lb packages too. We do have the same coffee on our Specialty Java website and it is called Organic New York New York and is available in larger sizes in ground format. I hope this helps.

3. Is this new york new york from specialty java or a different blend

Good morning. Yes New York Jo is roasted and packaged by Specialty Java Inc. Jo Coffee is a trademarked brand owned by Specialty Java Inc. We also produce a conventional NYNY but is not sold on Amazon. Thanks.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

The Headster! HOOAH!!! says: “I accidentally ordered the whole beans. I always order ground coffee. Luckily I have a nice grinder. I was ordering the Bean Company but read a couple bad reviews about chemicals. I ground this up and although a bit pricey for me, it is just an awesome cup of Jeff (screw that Joe guy). I’m G.I. Jeff. Anyway, back on track, FOCUS Jeff. I was drinking French Dark Roast and was actually getting turned off by coffee but this has renewed my love of it. I just wish they’d offer a bigger 5 lb. bag and lower the price per ounce

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Does it come in course ground for french press coffee makers?

Good morning. We use an auto-drip grind which is by far the most common of all coffee brewers. If you like our New York Jo blend we offer the exact same coffee from our corporate Specialty Java site called New York New York (ORG). You can choose a specific grind level.

2. Is this certified gluten free?

Hello. Yes it is gluten free. The ingredients are 100% Organic Arabica Coffee and there are no additives. No gluten products are produced in our facility either.

3. I don’t own a coffee grinder. Is this coffee pre ground?

Yes this is ground coffee. We also offer the same coffee in whole bean. When you visit the product page on Amazon, the title at the top will described which it is.

4. Is the new york organic the same as the new york new york organic sold at the specialty java parent site?

It is the exact same coffee just packaged under the Jo Coffee brand.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Emme says: “I am so glad to find an organic coffee without a burnt flavor. I dislike French Roast coffee because they taste burnt. Somehow, French Roast has become the standard for organic coffee. I wanted strong, rich flavor. I wanted smooth. This coffee delivers this at a reasonable price. Adding: I bought this for my sister who likes her coffee VERY strong. Honestly, I wait for my spoon to dissolve while I stir. She loves it–adds three times more than I do to the basket, but it is her favorite. It’s the first organic coffee that she has enjoyed.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. are the beans in this coffee wet processed, and therefore free of mold?

Fair trade coffee is not guaranteed to be free of mold or mycotoxins. Bad beans can slip through and even often do. Mycotoxins are present in a large percentage of coffee beans and make it into the final drink. However, their levels are far below the safety limit. Unfortunately, fair trade beans are all over the place on the spectrum. It’s nice that the market “drives” prices, but in reality, we need to get away from the system they are using currently. Kicking Horse has pretty good coffee though. For almost 10 bucks for 10oz, I’m gonna try to just support locally roasted beans.

2. What is the different between Kick ass dark & Three sisters medium?

Just a different roast. I can’t tell you the taste difference because we’ve always drink the Kick Ass because of it’s low acidity.

3. How long the time I can store this coffee?

As with any coffee, fresh is best, but we have stored this for 8 weeks in a cool dry location (not the freezer) and ground the beans as we used them. still delicious. I would not grind them in advance.

4. Why aren’t there any “5 Star” reviews in the past year? Reviews from over a year ago aren’t helpful if the taste has changed as I saw in 1 comment.

I have been ordering this coffee for several years and still love it. I recently switched from using an AeroPress to cold brew and it is still my favorite every day blend. I have tried others and aside from their own Grizzly Claw I have not been able to find another blend that satisfies my taste buds as well. Glady give it 5 stars

If you’re reading this, you’re a coffee purist like I am (others call us snobs, but we all know better.) And like me, you’ve been disappointed all too often by recommendations that have led you to more of the same– acidic, flat, unremarkable brews. Starbucks, Coffee Bean– even Peet’s can be overrated, and the only thing they consistently provide is inconsistency. However, the 454 from Kicking Horse, while a bit pricier than our usual fare, is worth every penny. It’s a delicious, lush roast with hints of baker’s chocolate, a smooth finish, and very low acidity. In sum, it’s a superb coffee. In my quest for the ultimate cup–which is not over, but has dramatically narrowed–I also found some terrific advice to really getting the most mileage out of your beans.

First, a burr grinder really does make a difference. I used my old blade grinder for years, and my coffee was always decent. However, the more I read, the more I thought about trying one. I bought a Cuisinart, the $45-ish jobby. Short story is that instead of pulverizing the same beans over and over, which makes your grind size inconsistent, it grinds the beans once as they pass into the hopper, and you can control the coarseness. I’d get one.

Next, search online for articles about how much coffee to use; there’s lots of great info abounding. Boiled down, they say that bean to water ratios matter, and they’re right. It’s 55 grams of coffee to one liter of water. Sounds like a pain to measure, but it’s not. Once I got a cheap scale here on Amazon ($10 or so) I figured out how much my press and carafes held, and used some basic math to dial in the right amount of coffee. It was easy, and our presses and carafes hold similar volumes. Anyway, I just poured the beans into a measuring cup, took note of the mark, and put the scale away.

I also tried veering away from my permanent gold filter. Sacrilege, maybe, but my wife likes her coffee less gritty, and I wondered if sacrificing the natural oils vs. the grit was a good trade. It was. In fact, I’m coming to prefer the paper filter taste (Melitta non-bleached), or rather, the texture, over the gold filter. I still like the permanent filter, although my French press beats them both. Medium-course grind from the Cuisinart, six minutes in sub-boiling water, stir once, and it’s like nothing I’ve had before. Sinfully aromatic, big mouthfeel, and eminently enjoyable. I don’t think I’ve had a better cup of coffee. It also makes a great pot of drip, noticeably better. And regardless of what anyone says, your own preferences are paramount. What’s best is what you like the most. Drip, press, single cup it–choose your weapon.

But I’m burying the lead–the quality of the beans makes the cup more than anything else, and the Kicking Horse 454 is superior to most coffees I’ve had; it vastly outclasses all the bitter slop we’ve been led to believe tastes good. I’ve also tried the Kick Ass, and I prefer the 454. It’s roastier and richer. I’ve also noticed that some reviewers say that the 454 tastes burnt, heavy, etc. Of course, we all have our own taste buds, but I respectfully submit that this is bunk. The 454 is my new mainstay because I dislike burnt, heavy coffee as much as I dislike weak, acidic coffee. The 454 has exceptional balance.

If nothing else, it’s worth your while to try it, and experiment with your brewing methods like I did. I’ve finally arrived at a consistently excellent brew, and I’ll warrant your thoughts about coffee will change if you do the same..

1. Where is the hola light roast whole bean option?

Amazon sellers don’t offer every roast. You could try checking back or contacting the seller directly. Hope this helps!

The last batch I bought ( 454 Horse Power Ground; March 22, 2019) has a date of “OCT 17 19 15:42 325 1” printed on the bag.

3. Hello, nobody mentions aroma-does ìt hæve äny? Thanks

Short story long… We love a good coffee, so taste, profile, body, acidity etc. all need to be spot on to make the cut. The best way to get what you want, how you want it is to buy the raw beans, roast and grind yourself. But who has time for that?

So we decided to have another kid… I love the kid, but he has the lungs of a screeching spider monkey that just hit the lottery. So getting the average of 30 minutes of sleep at a time, our Nespresso and Keurig single cup makers couldn’t keep up come morning. I know what you’re thinking, (you say you’re a coffee snob but you use a keurig?!” .. Yes.. when you’re getting negative sleep each night, convenience is nice. Not saying it’s a great cup of coffee, but it satisfies well enough. The Nespresso makes a pretty solid cup of coffee, but the cost per pod is much higher. I can’t afford to spending all that money for pods with as much as we’re drinking lately… that’s like a Ferrari a week. So here we are… with a drip pot. Add that to our pour over, french press, two pod makers, moka… our house looks like a Starbucks on steroids. But hey, for the sake of quantity and money, we’ll give it a shot. So I went in search of a great roast…

This was the real uphill battle.. a battle that took us through every roast on the store shelves, and many through Amazon. We searched high and low for a good roast, our taste buds longing for a good cup of coffee… but all we found was bitterness, weak roasts and acidity that would make drinking from a car battery enticing. We tried to fine tune amounts… ultra filtered water.. we even mixed various roasts together, which actually helped.. but who can live like that?! So the journey continued… with fear we may never have good coffee again. Sure, at this point going on -5671 hours of sleep, the caffeine was a primary issue, keeping me from turning into Gollum… and we were still being supplied that. But our taste buds longed for something good again. Our search continued, until one day we were at a discount store and bought a bag of Kicking Horse to try. At this point, with all the money we were wasting on bad coffee I practically had to work overtime and get a second job.. (just kidding… but seriously…) we started grabbing some to try at the discount store. Brought this puppy home – our first bag of Kicking Horse – and was excited to try it. I looked at the bag and my heart dropped like a lead balloon. On the side, it said “Decaf”. After shaking my head in shame and wondering what my wife was going to say about my man card, I decided to try it. To my surprise, it was a very good roast… especially for a demonic, perverted thing like Decaf! But we still needed caffeine… we’ll keep that Decaf for a rainy day when we no longer need the caffeine.. like when the kids get married or something.

This whole occurrence however, was my gateway to Kicking Horse. We decide to try some of their other roasts, since the Decaf reeled us in. I ordered the Three Sisters, Kick @$$, and Smart @$$. We usually like a darker roast, so I thought I’d like that one best, but I found it a little weak to be honest. Still good taste, and no bitterness… kinda like that good old hunting dog. He’s a good dog, loyal, but doesn’t really help you out. Then I tried the other two, and Three Sisters blew my socks off! For a medium roast, it was a nice strong roast. No bitterness or harsh acidity, and the flavor profile was amazing! My first taste of this was Heavenly… as if the angels were singing. Seriously… if I could tap an iv of this straight into my bloodstream I would.

So there it is… best roast I’ve had in a long time. My only regret is that they don’t sell it by the pallet full.
Kid still sleeps horrible, but hey… at least we can have a good cup of coffee in the morning that not only gives us caffeine, but also is enjoyable to drink. Thanks, Kicking Horse!!.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Looking for organic alternative with chocolate tones like Starbuck’s Cafe Verona – would this be it?

Good morning. Sorry I don’t drink Starbucks Cafe Verona but our Wild Jo is hugely popular and highly rated. Yes it has undertones of dark chocolate in the beans. We offer it in 12 oz packages if you want to try out a smaller package first.

2. is this single origin coffee?

Good morning Chelsea. Thanks for your question. It is a secret proprietary blend of more than 1 coffee.

3. How oily are the beans? I’d like to use this in my super-automatic but beans that are too oily will gunk up the grinder. Thanks!

I have an auto bean filler too and have not had any problem with these beans. My wife and I love this coffee and order it regularly.

4. I’m looking for low acid espresso whole beans that has smooth caramel and chocolate notes. Which espresso should I order of yours?

Wild Jo will be the lower acidity of the two. You will get more chocolate tones also but some of the origins in Jo Espresso also have those notes too.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

K says: “I saw this coffee recommended in a “best coffees” list somewhere online and saw that it was available with my prime shipping, so decided to give it a try. Oh boy! What an upgrade to my morning! I’m pleased as punch to have found a delicious, ethical coffee. It’s smooth, full of flavor, and doesn’t make you pinch up your mouth with that sour aftertaste. The coffee I had before this was just Maxwell House that had gone stale way too fast, and it was basically like drinking dishwater…so I can’t say that the bar was SUPER high, but this is
absolutely a treat to drink. I feel like I’m getting away with something. Easily as good as $8/cup coffees from a coffee house, and I’m just using a Mr. Coffee drip machine and cheapo grinder. I’ll definitely be getting this from now on..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. is it kosher with an Ou?

Our bagged ground and whole bean items are not Kosher. Our single serve for K-Cup brewers items are Blue Ribbon Kosher because they are produced in a different kosher certified facility. Hope this helps.

2. Is this course ground?

Good morning Edna. For our coffee sold distributed through Amazon, it is all ground for drip coffee makers. If you are interested, you can get the same coffee from our Specialty Java Inc website and has variable grind levels available. It is labeled New World Breakfast and is roasted then shipped directly to you from our roastery.

3. will this grind work well in a french press?

It will work–very similar to drip–i think its almost the same.

4. Is this plain coffee or does it have added apricot, honey, and lemon flavor? The product notes say “no flavor added.” The label is confusing!

Good morning. Those are just descriptive terms of naturally occuring flavors in the coffee beans. Similar to cupping notes in different grapes used in making wine.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Myrrh404 says: “I had decided to try this – new to me – flavor (in whole bean) and accidentally bought pre-ground coffee (yuk). Must not have been wearing my glasses at the time. But here’s the surprise – I went ahead and made it, and didn’t expect anything other than the usual, nasty bitter taste of any other pre-ground coffee. The surprise was that it wasn’t the least bit bitter. I went ahead and made my bulletproof coffee with it and it was smooth, smooth, smooth and tasty. I can’t wait to use this up and order the whole bean version. If the
pre-ground is this good, the whole bean must be absolutely fantastic!
Great job Jo Coffee people, again!.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Is this coffee coarse ground? i want to use it with my eco reusable kuerig 2.0 cup. but sometimes its ground too fine and it doesnt filter properly.

It’s very coarse. I have a drip coffee pot, so I’m not sure about Kuerig.

2. does this coffee have cocoa and brown sugar in it or just the taste of it?

I haven’t tried the coffee I gave it as a gift but I believe the cocoa and brown sugar is just a description of the flavor profile. This coffee shouldn’t have any additives.

3. Does this coffee have a bitter taste to it? Like a after taste?

It will not have a bitter taste if you use the correct 2 tablespoons of ground coffee to 6 oz of water. Bitterness comes from not using enough ground coffee to water ratio which causes over extraction. Think church coffee. That is why it is bitter. Not enough ground coffee.

4. Is this coffee pesticide free?

Hello. This is pesticide free. Our Jo Coffee brand is USDA Certified Organic and there are no chemicals used in growing or processing the coffee beans in any of our coffees. Our roastery (Specialty Java Inc.) is a USDA Certified Organic facility. Thanks for asking.

Greg says: “With 100’s of gourmet coffees available online these days, you really just have to “roll-the-dice” when trying a new one. So glad we tried this Jo brand we found via Amazon. My wife and I like a strong blend, which is how this blend is described on Amazon. So we made a quick 6AM 1/2 pot when we got this bag of Wild Jo dark roast. It delivered! Nice & smooth with a rich, full flavor. And for the record on my review… this is NOT one of those reviews written because the seller gave me free or discounted product. I

And for the record on my review… this is NOT one of those reviews written because the seller gave me free or discounted product. I wrote this review because I’m a coffee snob, (and I know good coffee from bad) and drink coffee from all over the world, and this Wild Jo delivers a really nice full-bodied cup of coffee.

Try it, you’ll like it..

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Two Cents says: “I did not love this coffee however, whether of not you’ll like it depends on the kind of coffee you like. If you love Dunkin Donuts/McDonalds style coffee, you will probably love this. If you prefer Starbucks style coffee, you probably won’t. The company was great to work with and gave me a refund. I ordered their French Roast, which I have yet to try.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Truly decaf?

Not just decaf.I can’t drink most decaf coffee, because the remaining caffeine is still too much for me.I’ve tried all different kinds and spend days recovering.NO FUN JO DECAF must have SO LITTLE (or maybe none) that it doesn’t bother me at all!I can drink a whole pot and not have any of the issues I have from other “decaf”.Plus, this is one of the best tasting coffees I’ve ever had.I’ve spent YEARS avoiding coffee, and suffering without my black gold.I’m like a new person having coffee back in my life. This is the best coffee ever!!

2. Is this unflavored coffee or is it blueberry and milk chocolate flavored?

Hi Ben. This is unflavored, 100% organic arabica coffee. There are no additives.

3. A couple of he photos show the Swiss water method trademark on the package, while others do not. Is this truly made with Swiss water method?

Yes it is. It has always been SWP but added the logo to package at a later time.

4. can i use this with keurig ?

Hello. Since this is a bag of ground coffee, we assume you are using a refillable cup. Of course using any ground coffee will technically work, but it would be better to buy No Fun Jo whole bean, then use your own grinder to grind the beans to a level that you like best. It really depends on your tastes but even brewers can vary from machine to machine.

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Refujio Avalos says: “I love this coffee. I have a moderate to server anxiety/panic disorder and this coffee is truly a blessing due to it’s decaffeinated roast. Now, with that said, all decaffeinated contains very little caffeine, but this coffee has so little I can drink up to two big cups back to back and have no negative effects. Moving on to flavor, FINALLY, I found a good tasting decaffeinated coffee! That’s about it. It’s a delicious and robust tasting cup that could pass as regular blend. Other than that, the company itself have emailed me twice to ensure my happiness. I never write
reviews ever, but they totally deserve this. Thank you!.
