3. Worx WG309, 8 Amp 10-inch Corded Electric Pole Saw & Chainsaw

Style:10” Electric Pole Saw The safest way to keep your trees looking sharp, the Worx 10” – 8A Electric Pole Saw is a well-balanced chainsaw that you can easily hoist in the air. Or, take off the pole and use it for regular chainsaw projects down on the ground. It’s got a lot of bite for a 10” bar, and plenty of modern features that make it easy to use.

With a 28 ft/s chain speed and advanced auto lubrication and tensioning systems, you’ll always have a powerful saw at your disposal. The oil level window lets you know when you’ll need to refill. And the auto tension knob will never let you turn too far to potentially damage the chainch This ergonomically engineered pole saw features a handle that rotates 180° so you can turn the whole saw on its side without having to turn your body.

The pole attaches and detaches easily. The handguard protects you from falling debris. And an off/on switch on the bottom of the pole lets you start or stop the saw without bringing it up and down repeatedly. This is an electric chainsaw, so you don’t have to worry about all the downsides of gas-powered tools: This saw will be less expensive to run and maintain, cleaner for both you and the environment, and much quieter.

This is 2 saws for the price of one. Plus, it’s the safer way to trim your branches.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Is anyone having issues with chain falling off every few cuts? Mine is new and doing this.

I have been cutting up (Liming) Oak trees. Some 3 1/2 -4″ diameter. No Problems with the WORX. Using my new Stihl “Wood Boss” cutting the bigger trees 8-12″. The Stihl needs to be sharpened. The WORX is still cutting and as sharp as when I started. No problems. Working harder than I can.

2. The site says that they cannot ship to my street address in northern california. has anyone not been able to get this shipped to the usa?

Move out of California, Hell in Florida you can practically get this thing with a shotgun strapped to it shipped right to your door.Ha ha just kidding. Really, I know it’s getting impossible to get gas powered lawn equipment in CA but this should be just what the tree huggers want you to use oh wait, I just answered the question.Stop trying to hurt the trees.

3. Can anyone please tell me what sharpening kit to get for this saw? Thanks very much!

I don’t know. I just bought a new chain once the old one got dull. $15

4. Do i need to purchase oil or does it come with some?

No, it doesn’t come with oil. Ignore the guy who says it does and the ambiguous answer dude. I had to run to our local hardware store to buy it the last minute.
What Real Customers Say About This Product?

A. Ellison says: “This saw is incredible. I can’t even explain how far beyond expectations this is. I expected that this was only going to be good for really small branches, but I was wrong. After doing a few that were small, I moved back towards bigger and bigger ones until I ended up cutting the entire oak branch off. I had to cut from both sides due to the width, but it did amazingly well. It’s pretty light weight for how powerful it is. Absolutely love it !!

So I researched & researched & settled on this 15 amp MAMMER-JAMMER with 16″ blade.
Took me 5 minutes to assemble & fill with oil.
3 hours later about 20 large 10-15 foot, 4″-6″ limbs were cut, sized & put out for big trash.
This chainsaw is quiet & went through these logs like butter. Used hardly any oil & never got HOT. It is lite enough to use one handed if need be for balance while on a ladder.
Very simple set up & assembly. If unfamiliar read the instructions on proper tension of chain.
Hope this helps you, enjoy.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. What is the total length of the chain saw? Will it fit in a suitcase?

Depends on the suitcase size.and I feel like simply answering this question makes one an accomplice.

2. Any idea what the difference is between the wg304 and wg304.1?

I have seen some comments saying that the difference is the drive gear. These comments stated that the 304 has a plastic drive gear and the 304.1 has a metal drive gear. This is absolutely not true!!Both models have a plastic drive gear which will wear out quickly if one takes aggressive cuts with the saw. There is no metal gear used, or available as a replacement part. The only way to maximize gear life is to take gentle cuts parallel to the wood fibers.Never cut perpendicular to the end grain, otherwise you will definitely accelerate the wear on the plastic gear.

3. What is the smallest generator that will run this ?

Don’t forget the motor surge current when starting. Commonly, the surge is 1.5 to 2 times the run current, so I would figure on a 4KW surge rated generator or larger to avoid stressing the generator, saw or extensioncord. I also would recommend a cord with 12 gauge copper wire as a minimum size to prevent the cord from overheating.

4. When I try to checkout it says it cannot ship to my address. I live in California

You can hurt yourself or others with a chain saw. It’s a dangerous weapon. You probably need a license to acquire or possess one, at l;east if the bar is over 12″..Plus, it’t made of materials that have been found to cause cancer in mice. Therefore, you are not judged intelligent enough by the Gov. to have such a thing.More reason to not live in Cali!

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

John Knobloch says: “A massive oak tree, 6 ft diameter, at the base, fell in a wind storm and crushed my car. I bought this WORK chainsaw to cut it up. Yes, with an 18 inch bar. It was phenomenal, cut easily and fast. Didn’t need to sharpen chain till 3/4 way through the job. I get amazing, [almost faces of unbelief] stares from men when they find it’s electric. Just haven’t cut the last 16 feet of the trunk, which goes from 3 feet to 6 feet. Cut from both sides of the tree to get to the middle, once is was thicker
than 18 inches in diameter. I repeat, despite twists, and pressure points, in a fallen tree, on a crushed car, and a damaged roof, this chainsaw cut easily, fast, without any hassles. Of course I had to use common sense in cutting through the pressure points, cutting from underneath, too. Cost me $107. Works now as if I had just begun cutting. Absolutely amazing deal for a $100 chain saw. I have pics!.

What Real Customers Say About This Product?

Mountain Haven says: “My husband laughed when I told him I wanted to buy this particular chainsaw for cutting small trees on our property. His chainsaw was way too heavy for me & I had a hard time starting it because it was gas powered. I was also sick & tired of waiting for him to cut the trees needing to be cut. Earlier in the season, I bought a WORX Leafblower which came with 2 batteries so I used those batteries & bought this chainsaw! BEST BUY EVER! My husband now sneaks MY CHAINSAW out when I’m not around! I’ve cut 6 inch
trees with it but mostly focus on smaller box elder type trees which block the light from my oak trees. The light weight makes it easy to maneuver & nothing beats the electronic batteries! Each battery has lasted me around 30 minutes of intense nonstop cutting but I highly recommend buying 2 batteries or the WORX Chainsaw that already comes with 2 batteries. It’s easy to put the chain on & it’s also easy to adjust it. The first couple of times you need to tighten the chain after a few cuts because it loosens up which is normal I am told, but it’s super easy to tighten it with a turn of the knob. And I like the fact that I can take the batteries off when I start fooling around with the chain. It’s an extra safety precaution I like to take. You need to buy bar chain oil & I would recommend buying an extra chain or two. Very very very happy with this purchase!.

Please use a 5/32” file for sharpening the chain. We recommend the Oregon 25894 5/32” file with guide, and the Oregon 27742 Depth gauge and file guide, for the best results. The chain should be sharpened at a 25-30 degree angle.

  • Patented auto tension chain system for extended Bar & chain life
  • Powerful 8 amp motor offers a consistent performance
  • Chain Lubrication with oil lever indicator
  • Compact and light weight design
  • Oil tank capacity 4 flu oz; and chain pitch is 3/8 in
Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Mine leaked oil all over the place. Is it defective? I havent even used it yet, just assembled it, put oil in it and left it setting horizontal.

Since the oil in the WORX chainsaws is gravity fed and not pumped, the oil will always leak out of the side of the saw so that the chain will be properly lubricated during operation. The best recommendation to stop the oil from leaking is to empty the oil reservoir before storage, and only use approximately the amount of oil for the job at hand. Also, you may try storing it on the left side with the cap tightened securely, but if your cap has holes in it, this may not work as well as emptying the reservoir.

2. 14 in 16 in or 18 in

14 stock but you could add a longer bar which is what I’m going to do

3. Has anyone use this electric chainsaw on oak trees?

Used it on oak and pine trees up to 6″ and worked fine. Best used for limbs because it’s light.

4. does it come with oil?

No oil included in the box, but the chain itself is already pretty oiled by itself, probably good for the first job if you just don’t have oil for a simple cut.

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. Will this 16 inch also work on a 100 ft extension cord, like the 14 inch does?

I’ve cut downed trees for days using this “14.3 amp” tool with “100 FT 12/3 Outdoor Extension Cord – Rubber, Flexible, Triple Outlet, Black Wire with Live Power Light Indicator” in combination with a 100 ft 14/3 extension cord (yes, 200 feet total) with negligible loss of function.

2. What specific chain oil available on Amazon works for the Worx WG303.1? Will any sort of SAE 30 oil work, or does it have to be chain oil? Thanks.

The manufacturer’s warantee needs to be followed, if a problem is encountered and a claim is made that might related to the chain oil used.Alternatively, I took the suggestion of another reviewer, who was concerned about the impurities in petroleum-based lubricants being released directly into the soil where the saw cutting is conducted. He recommended using a vegetable-based oil, which is completely biodegradable. So, recognizing the warrantee non-conformance risk for a ~$100 device, i elected to use vegetable oil (see website at http://eartheasy.com/blog/2010/11/using-vegetable-oil-to-replace-chainsaw-oil/).I used my new Worx saw for >40 hrs for major trees damage following Feb 2014 ice storm.Chain oil was soybean vegetable oil (1.42L or 48 oz for <$3.00) thoughout; I experienced excellent results without any chain cutting or seizure problems. As a retired chemical & environ. engr., I am please with WG303 & delighted that another user suggested the vegetable oil option.

3. I wonder if I should buy the spare chain now together with the tool itself and of course 1qt bottle of oil. I just wonder how long does the chain last

I bought a spare Oregon Chainsaw brand (91 Low Profile™ 3/8 in. (9.5mm) pitch, .050 in. (1.3mm) gauge, sharpens with 5/32 in. (4mm) file) and when the chain becomes dull, just switch and then when convenient, resharpen the old chain or take it to a dealer and have it resharpened.Costs for resharpening are very low ( $5.00 to $15.00 depending on length of chain.).If you are going to use the saw more than just once or twice a year, buy a gallon of bar oil and learn to sharpen the chain yourself. You will get a sense of joy from learning a new skill and benefit from saving yourself a few bucks by sharpening your own chain. The jigs are cheap and with the purchase of a small file (check owners manual) you can do it!

4. WHAT IS THE WARRANTY ON THIS SAW?

17. Worx WG321 20V Power Share Cordless 6-inch JawSaw Chainsaw with 5-ft

The safest chainsaw on the market now offers the safest way to trim tree limbs. Keep the ladder in the garage and your feet planted firmly on the ground with the Worx 20V Power Share JAWSAW™ Cordless Chainsaw with Extension Pole. Reach up to 5 feet in cutting length to cut branches up to 4” in diameter. And The JAWSAW with the battery and pole attached is only 12 lbs, so it’s not difficult to get it up there.

So what makes the JAWSAW so safe? Just look at its construction. That thick housing around the bar and chain exposes much less of the saw than a traditional chainsaw design. Not only that, the bar and chain actually retract into the neck when not in use, so you’ll never have an unattended and uncovered chainsaw lying around. And that housing allows for cutting fallen branches directly on the ground.

With every other chainsaw, you have to prop up the log to cut it, but the JAWSAW can work right off the grass or pavement. Steel teeth on the mouth of the housing hold the limb in place for greater stability and easier cutting. Plus, the automatic tension and oiling systems keep the chain at the optimal tightness and the right level of lubrication at all times—this improves performance and extends the life of the tool.

Comes with a spanner wrench, oil bottle, 20V 2.0Ah Power Share battery and charger.

Worx WG321 20V Power Share Cordless 6-inch JawSaw Chainsaw with 5-ft Extension Pole

  • [5 EXTRA FEET IN REACH] Reach up to 5 feet in cutting length with the added extension pole. Attaches to your chainsaw quickly, without the need for tools. Combines the reach of a pole saw with the results of a Jawsaw
  • [THE SAFEST SAW AROUND] The Jawsaw is the one and only chain saw with a fully protective guard. When not in use the blade retracts into the base. And because of that guard, this is the only chainsaw made for cutting directly on the ground. Leave the log right there on the pavement and get to work
  • [DO IT ALL WITH THE SAME BATTERY] Worx Power Share is compatible with all Worx 20v and 40v tools, outdoor power and lifestyle products
  • [CUTS THICK BRANCHES] Saw through material up to 4 inches in diameter. And with its innovative single action cutting mechanism, you’ve never had so much easy to use cutting power
  • [THE CHAIN STAYS TIGHT] Auto-tension feature guarantees optimum tension at all times. This patented system ensures you’ll have the most efficient cut every time
  • [THE CHAIN STAYS OILED] Features an automatic chain oiler with oil level indicator, which extends the life of the saw, the blade, the chain, and makes for smoother cuts
  • [LIGHT ENOUGH TO USE OVERHEAD] The Worx Jawsaw weighs 7.1 lbs. without the battery attached. Not only is that light for a chainsaw, the even weight distribution, and safety jaw guard, bolster the tool and make it easy to maneuver around overhead branches
Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. How heavy is it?

12 Pounds.

2. Why not just get the worx chainsaw also comes with an extension pole? that one won’t have a 4″ limitation. thanks.

As an older woman with a shoulder replacement, I wanted the better safety rating and easier handling of this model. Plus, I am primarily cutting saplings and brush well under 2 inches. My son uses the larger chainsaw. This works for me

3. What is the true length of this saw while fully extended?

Don’t know – sent back – at our age – (retirement) it was too hard to control when fully extended – with the weight of the saw at the end!

4. does the 16″ cordless saw come in a kit with pole extenion?

The one I bought did. I think they come with or without the extension

I bought the 20V cordless Jawsaw with the extension pole. Also purchased were a spare battery and chain.

The battery came with a partial charge even though the Charger manual says they come discharged. That’s not true. They also stated it takes 12 hours to charge. (Does anybody proof these manuals?) Lithium batteries are charged to 50% when manufactured. Charge time was about 3 hrs since the supplied charger is a low (read slow) charge rate device. When charging the light on the wall plug glows red. When charged it glows green. The manual says to avoid leaving a battery plugged into the charge because it DOES NOT turn off when charged.

Before fully charging I plugged in the battery pack, as shipped, added the oil, and tested the Jawsaw on a crab apple tree that’s situated in front of my home. Using the Jawsaw is as simple as the infomercial. Position the limb in the throat of the jaw; push down on the handle with a steady but not excessive pressure and the blade swings down to cut the limb. Bingo, the limb is cut off. Cutoff limb drops to the ground and then you chop it up without worrying about having the blade dig into the ground and dulling it. You can use it one handed once the jaws are locked into the limb. Your spare hand can guide the cut off limb to the ground so you don’t get hit in the head by the felled limb.

Bottom line is the saw cuts reasonably quickly with no fuss. Using it without the extension I cut off several 4″ limbs then chopped them up into smaller lengths on the ground. It is not as quick as my gas chainsaw but wow, no annoying 2 cycle engine noise, its easy to use, and it is much, much, safer. Of course, if you can cut a 4″ limb why can’t they design one for larger limbs? Making it capable of cutting larger limbs would make is heavier than its alredy nose heavy 8 lbs., but we can only wish.

Pros
–Does what it is supposed to do — safely cut tree limbs up to 4 inches in diameter.
–Quiet. You can trim trees without having your neighbors wonder when you are going to stop making the noise.
–Changesaw blade is automatically oiled but not excessively like the two chainsaws I have owned. Pushing in the handle to swing the blade releases the oil.
–Filling the oil reservoir is easy.
–Oil cap on the Jawsaw has a tether to prevent losing it. However, the nifty little dispenser (like a ketchup bottle) has no cap whatsoever.
–Checking chain tension is easy
–It only weighs 8 lbs.

Cons – I can see no major drawbacks with the Jawsaw. My below list are more comments and opportunities for improvement:
— While only 8 lbs. it is nose heavy but unless one can change the laws of physics it is something you have to adapt to as a user to prevent getting too tired using it. A more balanced design would add undesirable weight and cost.
— Manual has misinformation about the lithium battery. It comes charged with about 50% charge and takes three hours to fully charge. Manual says first charge should be 12 hours. Either the charger is faulty or the manual is wrong. I think it’s the manual.
— No sight level on the oil reservoir. This would be a nice feature to have so you can quickly determine if you have enough oil.
— Supplied socket tool has no on board storage slot or pocket. You can picture it getting separated from the Jawsaw as it moves around the garage. My DeWalt reciprocating saw came with a nice T handle hex head to loosen and tighten the cap screw that holds the blade. The T handle is stored in the handle of the saw. I have had the saw for over 15 years and have never lost the supplied T handle.
— ADD SOME HELPFUL WARNINGS TO THE BATTERY – A prominent warning on the battery about storage and charging should tell the consumer to store the battery with a 50% charge in a household environment. Rechargeable batteries don’t like being frozen or overheated. The battery should also be labeled to tell the consumer to charge the battery when it is at ambient temperature. Hot or frozen batteries should not be charged until they reach ambient temp.
— INSTALLING THE EXTENSION POLE is a bit clumsy with having to press the safety switches to lock in the handle. You need to be careful not to force the handle lock on the extension.

SUMMARY
The battery powered Jawsaw trims limbs on the trees on my property quite easily. I had considered the Jawsaw before but it requires 110 volts and an extension cord or hauling around a generator to power the corded Jawsaw. The cordless freedom is great. I have made the mistake of buying other cordless saws and was disappointed with the lack of power and battery capacity. This one operates very well on battery power.

You can cut a heck of lot of tree limbs from a tree or shrub and then easily dice them up into manageable sizes. While it cuts slower than a gas chainsaw, the overall processing time is less. That is, the processing time includes the time from cutting the limb off the tree and then chopping the cut limbs to a manageable size takes much less time. In my case I load my trimmed and chopped down to a small size cutoffs into a utility golf cart box that’s 3′ x 2′ and haul them back to the rear of my property where I stack them up for bonfires. What I noticed is how cutting the limbs to a compact size was easy. You simply cut them to size with the large limbs lying on the ground. No special handling required to prevent the blade from hitting the dirt. This saves time. I like the Jawsaw.

This review will be updated with more use and experience since not everything has been tested. I have a gopro style wide angle video camera I can mount on my head so I will take a video of the jawsaw in action from a user viewpoint. I promise to edit it so it moves quickly.

I will report back on how long it will run on a charge; use of extension including setup; and any problems with the chain coming off. With only one evening of use the Jawsaw gets 5 stars.

***************************
UPDATE AFTER A full afternoon of use (9-23-13). The cordless Jawsaw is still a keeper. Connecting the extension pole is a bit clumsy and poorly documented. In use the long pole with most of the weight on the far end does provide an unintended workout.

Two batteries is a must if you have a lot of tree trimming because the Lithium Ion pack will deplete or come near stalling after repeated lopping off of limbs. The work at hand prevents me from really providing a accurate count of number of limbs trimmed before recharging. Sorry, but I am not Consumer’s reports, just a user providing anecdotal information about my experience.

Cautionary note: Keep an eye on the oil reservoir because with a small reservoir the chain lube oil will get depleted and you won’t know it with a lot of cutting. My two gas chainsaws have a much larger chain oil reservoir. I recommend you refill it every time you change a battery or charge your battery, this will keep you safe. I have already used up all the oil that came with Jawsaw. Any chainsaw oil will work so don’t get carried away buying the WORX brand. Buy what is on sale.

***********************************
UPDATE: March 26, 2014
While Michigan (my home state) has an inch of snow today I started rummaging in the garage for the Jawsaw in preparation for spring cleanup. As I said earlier, the included wrench does not have a place on the saw to stow it so the nice litte wrench is missing in action.

For chainsaw oil I have bought a simple plastic squeeze bottle with a cap since the Jawsaw provide oil bottle has no cap. It should work fine.

************************************
Update: July 19, 2014
I know I stated earlier there was no sight level for the chain oil. I took a look at the yellow sticker that is located right next to oil fill and it says to use bar oil, and some other useless information. I peeled it off it found the oil sight level. GEEZE, can they not cover over the sight level with a reminder sticker?

December 31, 2015 update

Cordless jawsaw sat for a little over a year in the garage. Batteries stored safely in the house. I needed to trim some limbs and the cordless jawsaw performed flawlessly. The unseasonably warm December provided the tree trimming opportunity. Unfortunately, my utility golf cart with a box on the back was put away for the winter and hauling the trimming on a pull cart 500 feet to the burn pile in the back of my three acres took too much time and effort. I trimmed limbs for 5 minutes, loaded cart and transported trimmed limbs to the burn pile took 15 minutes. After 60 minutes of this I decided to stop. Bottom line is the cordless Jawsaw performed flawlessly in its third year of ownership and use..

Most Frequently Asked Question:

1. I have this saw and have no idea how to sharpen the blade. Help?

I sharpen my chain right on the sawyou’ll need a 5/32″ diameter file, and a little patience. If you look at the saw chain carefully, you’ll see that every other tooth has a different angle in the cutting edge. Hold the file on the same angle that is in the tooth and push (only) across that angle.Usually, about 4 or 5 passes is enough to renew the cutting edge. Then move on to the next oneWith a little practice, it will become easier to do. I have a vise I can clamp the bar into, and that holds it very securely while sharpening it.There are electric (Both battery and 110 volts) sharpeners that make child’s play out of sharpening, available at the ‘box’ stores.always try to maintain those same angles on the teeth..

2. how doyou assemble the chain to housing?

Or the price I can’t complain chain gets loose very often

3. how to assemble the chainsaw to 20 volt housing?

Very good directions are included. Assembly is no problem.

4. Does this chainsaw work on 220 volts?

No. 120 volts only
